Why is Pakistan always seemingly on the brink of collapse and why does it even matter if it did? In 2023 Pakistan faced inflation rates of 22% devaluing their money while having to fight off more than 3 times the amount of terrorist attacks than they faced in 2018. Creating a risk where if the country did collapse analysts warned terrorist groups could seize control of their 200 nuclear weapons like some kind of Tom Clancy novel. Destabilization here could have awful consequences not just for the Pakistani people but the entire world. I want to look at the role the Pakistani military has played in both trying to hold their country together and fueling its instability.
Written by: Chris Cappy & Josh Simpson
Edited by: Michael Michaelides
Between 1950 and 1965 both the US and Chinese military were largely responsible for building and training the Pakistan army. By 1954, the U.S Army helped them raise six armored regiments some of which exist to this day. US military Aid to Pakistan would peak in 1962 with 2.3 billion dollars worth of assistance. This is also when Pakistan first stepped up their cooperation with their neighbors in China. Since the 1963 Sino-Pakistan Agreement, the Pakistani military has had close relations with China. This unclassified CIA intelligence memorandum for the Nixon library says (pg7) Since large-scale Chinese military aid began in 1965, Pakistan has received 78 MIG-19 fighters and 12 IL-28 light bombers. Its armored forces have received 160 T--59 medium tanks and a srnall number of T--34s. China has reportedly delivered enough mortars and recoilless rifles to equip two infantry divisions and a number of l22-rnm. howitzers, anti aircraft guns, and trucks.

Pakistan lost in a war against India in 1971 and half of its territory along with its confidence to go against India anymore, that lost territory becomes Bangladesh, a new country altogether. Then in 1980's and 1990's Pakistan via its military and ISI started state-sponsored terrorism via Khalisthan and Kashmir in India and Taliban in Afghanistan. East Pak was never our territory to begin with, it belonged to the Bangla people and yes while I feel sad that they were not given rights and freedoms and in the end faced heinous crimes, I feel that the culture of West and East Pakistan is very different, even the languages, not to mention it's not even connected to west pakistan in any way shape or form, so realistically it was best for them to get their independence. I only wish that we had given them their independence from west pakistan in the 50s instead of dragging them to the point that such terrible things happened at the hands of our army. Bangladesh should have been it's own country since day 1 and I only wish that it was done peacefully without war, that's what I would have done as a leader. At the time of partition, East Pakistan should have become it's own country called Bangladesh and therefore 1971 would have never happened.

So a guy named "Gaius Claudius Nonius Pullo" would be called "Nonius Pullo", because there were literally a million people called "Gaius Claudius". In truth though, they can only do this in part because they rely on security guarantees from larger countries with an army. Excellent introduction to the fundamentals of Pakistan. Two other points need to be covered to gain a working knowledge of this young but ancient country. Point one: The Inter Service Intelligence agency (ISI). The ISI is a essentially rouge second government in Pakistan. Incredibly wealthy, both financially and in influence. Nothing happens in Pakistan without ISI approval. The ISI will conduct operations against the will of the government if they see fit. The situation in Kashmir is one example, as is the extreme elements based in the border region between India and Pakistan. The 26/11/2008 attacks in Mumbai, including the massacre at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel was conducted by Lashkar-e-Taiba, directed by ISI. Secondly: It is impossible to understand Pakistan without a basic knowledge of the 'Madrassa', which is a type of religiously based learning system, as opposed to the other school system which provides a more secular curriculum. In a madrassa, young boys are essentially imprisoned and brainwashed in fundamentalist, extreme Islam, producing mindless, evil drones capable of conduct terrorism operations all around the world. Every large, spectacular terrorism act in the last 25 years have had perpetrators influenced by Pakistani madrassas. Thank you for an excellent episode, Cappy!

Pakistani army commited mass genocide among bangladeshis and tried to kill all literate people of Bangladesh to help deter their fight for independence. and usa forgetting all its morales and "democracy" decided to still support Pakistan in this genocide just to go against a soviet ally. USA and other nato nations warned india that if it decided to get involved and prevent the atrocities being committed in Bangladesh. NATO would send their fleet and wage war against India. However India decided to act against the warning (something which all indians are proud of till this day and will keep being proud of) and liberated Bangladesh in just a few days. The USA even sent their carrier fleet to India to stop them from doing so however the ussr helped india by sending their destroyers to deter USA. I hope youtubers elaborate more when discussing such events rather than just showing it like another conflict.
