MMA is just that: mixed martial arts. Why? Because NO SINGLE ART HAS THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING. This includes Wing Chun… AND BJJ… AND Muay Thai. Anyone who thinks that Wing Chun would dominate in the cage on its own is as deluded as anyone else who thinks that their pure art would emerge victorious. But dismissing Wing Chun outright is nonsensical; when properly trained live pressure drills and with sparring, it could indeed be a formidable tool in the arsenal of an MMA competitor. But that’s the problem… most Wing Chun schools don’t do live drills, don’t spar, don’t pressure test against other styles, and don’t even know how to begin developing a curriculum that makes Wing Chun combat effective against other skilled practitioners. Until that becomes the norm, Wing Chun will continue to be derided… and, sadly, rightfully so.
Is wing chun technique designed for close range? Wing chun as a technique? Do you think that wingchun is to hold your palm up and punch with the other hand? Or like this friend who works with a wooden dymmy, put your hand in different ways and hit the dummy? And you don't know anything about jing power, chi power, Chinese philosophy, and just by looking at the appearance of your hand, you think you know wingchun, and then you get upset, why doesn't it work? Why don't you give up on Wing Chun? You don't even know what Wing Chun is and you defend it

Personally I don't think that Wing Chun is valuable in MMA; that doesn't mean that it's not valuable for self-defense. You have to consider what the purpose of MMA and Wing Chun is. MMA striking is about taking your time to figure out your opponents movements, timing and patterns. Wing Chun makes 'combat' strikes, meaning there's no time for the feeling out process of an MMA bout... so you throw punches in different patterns right away. So do I think Wing Chun is useless for self-defense? Nope. Do I think it is valuable in MMA? Also nope. All things being equal, a Wing Chun practitioner that trained for 1 year would get demolished by someone who trained in boxing for a year. That being said, I think Wing Chun strikes are more effective at the onset of a fight, if you threw the first punch. A Wing Chun punch can be thrown from a relaxed, non-threatening stance.... whereas with boxing, you square up your shoulders before engaging which allows your opponent to get ready. So Wing Chun can be valuable in a self-defense situation if you throw the first punch, but once the engagement starts, it would be more efficient to use Boxing. My two cents...
