This is the intro video to a new series I will begin this week--WHY Prophecy Fails--and I mean biblical prophecy. I want to explore the "why," not just the what and the when...digging beyond the usual descriptive presentation with a sharp analysis of what might be going on between readers and these ancient texts that become so easily with we call a "category" mistake.

I was a young minister in the mid-1960s when I was given a book by Herbert W. Armstrong that it was going end in 1975. I believe that was the title, “1975 in Prophecy.” It was a terrifying book and even then, as young and ignorant as I was, I could see how it could be used to scare people. It is a horrible theology.

In 1972 Jehovah’s witnesses knocked on my door and told me the world was coming to an end. Soon! And asked me if I wanted to become a Jehovahs Witness. I told them I didn’t see the accident. The same story repeated itself in 1976.

Dr. Tabor, I have been binge watching all of your content and have bought and read four of your books so far. Restoring Abrahamic Faith essentially encapsulates my spiritual journey over the past 20 years. I am finally deconstructing and have never learned more about Christianity than when I finally realized Yeshua wasn’t messiah and walked away. This is going to be a great series! Being a former Christian and 70 years old I remember Armstrong, The Late Great Planet Earth and read all the Left Behind fantasy. Remember J. Vernon McGee? He was on the radio forever! Looking forward to learning the truth!

It is very true, in my opinion, that most Evangelicals overplay the messianic prophecies that Jesus has fulfilled, and underplay the messianic prophecies that Jesus has yet to fulfill at the second coming.

I think it's explained in the Rambam that positive prophecies come true; negative prophecies can be repealed through teshuvah.
