Why Qui-Gon Jinn Wasn't Allowed on the Jedi Council - Star Wars Explained

Because Qui-Gon was a true Jedi. He serves the will of the Force, letting it guide him, before serving a government and politics. Qui-Gon understood the Force better than anyone, even Yoda, in my opinion. He was closer to a balanced Grey Force Knight/user than anyone we've seen. He discovered the secret to live on within the Force with his wisdom. He was the best and truest Jedi of his time, not held back by Jedi tradition.

The main reason was because he preferred to follow the Force rather then the council.

If Qui Gon and Dooku had been given more say in the Jedi Council, they might not have been taken by the Sith so easily.

In the end, the Force validated Qui-Gon and the other Jedi Masters learned, all to tragically, of their supreme ignorance in regards to many aspects of the Force and it's incredible vastness, potential and power. By guiding the Force Priestesses to train him first and foremost, concerning the "Great Gift" as they termed it, the Force was validating everything Qui-Gon had come to believe, practice and teach. He not only should have been on the Council, he should have held a high position on it. There were many aspects of the force he was aware of that not even Yoda or Mace, the Grand Master and Master of the Order, were aware of at that time. That, itself, speaks to his deserving of being included on the Council. Darth Plagueis, in the legends book about his life, was extremely impressed with Qui-Gon and did not want him to train Anakin under any circumstances. That is why he ordered Sidious to dispatch Maul to assassinate him.

Qui-Gon would have made Anakin more humble for sure. Like for example, "They allowed me into the council and did not give me the rank of master!" While Qui-Gon would have said something wise to him, that on his case it was the other way around, but he never stressed over it and always followed the will of the force regardless, that's how he found him after all.

"They defined good as the common good, rather than the will of the Force. This is not much different than the Sith." Great observation. Realizing this is like taking the "red pill" of Star Wars.

Look at what happened to the Jedi. They were so sure of their ways, that they were blind to the dark side and its destructive power. Qui Gon Jinn saw the greater picture by letting the Force guide him.

I love that Qui-Gon doesn't care what everybody else thinks. He is in my mind a true jedi master. That lets the force guide him rather than the other way around :)

It always seemed to me that the Jedi had become arrogant in the end and that Qui-Gon still retained the old ways which made them great.

I would love to see some early adventures with Qui-Gon. His training with Dooku and how much they shared or opposed the will of the force.

I always thought it was harsh that Qui Gon wasn't allowed on the council. They allowed Windu after all who had a similar disposition. Qui Gon would have brought a different point of view to the council, it seems strange that they would use Windu's differences as a strength, but almost punish Qui Gon for his. They lost out if anything imo.

1. What if Tyranus, Maul and Vader teamed up and trained together? 2. What if Ahsoka Tano & Asajj Ventress became friends and teammates? 3. What if Luke and Leia were trained by Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Windu and Yoda? 4. What if Anakin was trained by Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi -- and maybe even Mace Windu & Yoda? 5. What if Savage Opress was trained by Asajj Ventress, and became her lover; then trained by Tyranus and then by Maul?

Qui-Gon was "brash", expressed his opinion and remain in the "here and now", he accepted dangerous missions that no one else would take, etc ....so far none of these are good reasons for keeping him out of the Jedi Order. ...in fact, they are all good reasons for why he should have been inducted over others.

Qui Gon is my favorite Jedi. He listened to the force, knowing that even Jedi could betray the force because he had done it himself. He was fearless and accepted his fate.

I'd have him on the council, no question. He has different ideas, methods and ideals, which would create debate and force the council to consider other viewpoints, not just the "official line"

"Do you think Qui-Gon should've been on the high council?" Me:"He should've been THE COUNCIL" Palpatin: * SCREAMS IN FEAR *

Because he was the only true Jedi that followed the will of the Force.

I like Qui-Gon's philosophy about the Force a lot. As much as patience is key, sometimes you have to act on the promptings of the Force and let it guide you.

Force is a tool that can make your body into a weapon and help you accomplish your goals. May the force serve you well.

Qui-Gon was much less dangerous than Made and was a much better Jedi as far as his obedience to the living Force

I would love to see a Dooku/Qui-Gon movie. Those two characters just seem so interesting to me. The start could be about a young Dooku's training as a Jedi, middle features Dooku taking on Qui-Gon as an apprentice and his move to the dark side and the ending shows Qui-Gons development, and of course the introduction of a very young Obi-Wan.

What if the full Jedi council survived order 66

As always GREAT VIDEO, Qui-Gon is also one of my favorite Jedi due to his nature. I firmly believe that had he been on the council he would have a better balance to their outdated dogma. Furthermore we should start a petition to get his story told on the big screen a Qui-Gon Jin and Young Obi-Wan Anthology would be AMAZING, was sad to see such a pivotal character in the Star Wars Saga get such minor screen time (Maul is another character that was under-utilized but that's another vid). Always love how Qui-gon was this kind of rouge and wise master. In the story it would looks more powerful that he is not on the council, but if star wars was real it would be best to have him on it as to much of the same voice blinds one for other opinions. That is is just my take on it, Qui-gon will always be me fav jedi of all time and i love that he is a big part of star wars even though he is not seen as much

He should have been on the council.

I think that both the members of the council and Jedi like Jinn have a place on the Council. Jinn had a strong connection to the Living Force and often followed it at the expense of the Cosmic Force while the Council did the opposite. The reason they clashed was because they saw Jinn as someone who "leapt before he looked", the council's job is to decide what's best for everyone and to consider how an action can affect everything. Jinn's philosophy is literally "Feel. Don't think". If it "felt" right, it meant it WAS right, which is not entirely true. However, there is such a thing as over thinking something. The Council often made decisions that often led to inaction, unnecessary, or overreaction. Their political ties and misguided loyalty to the Republic only complicated matters. Ironic that this "attachment" which they often preached about led to their downfall. They focused on the future so much that they completely overlooked not only the Sith's return but that there was one right in front of their nose! It also has made me question the prophecy about "the Chosen One" and the "balance" he/she is supposed to bring. Is it merely the balance between the Light and the Dark or was it speaking of a balance between the Living and the Cosmic? Maybe both? An imbalance of the use of the living force or the cosmic can lead to whether you choose light or dark. After all, balance is only achieved when you find the middle. But how do you find the middle of anything if you don't know the difference between the two extremes?

Qui-Gon Jinn was right - Anakin did bring balance to the force. When Anakin/Darth Vader was done with the Jedi Purge, overall, there were basically (2) Sith, and (2) Jedi remaining. That looks like balance to me LOL

In a sense Qui-Gon is very much like the Jedi of old but at the same time not, he is one to serve the force for the greater good and NOT the republic which is what the ancient Jedi order did, they fought alongside the republic but NEVER directly for it because it really was for the greater good but by the same token Qui-Gon's beliefs and personality I feel would very much be welcomed in the new Jedi Order lead by Luke (if he had survived against Darth Maul that is)

i have a theory. i think quigon allowed anakin to turnnto the darkside. he spoke to him in episode 2 and he spoke to yoda in episode 3. he could have told anakin that palpatine was evil, and even told him to stay with the jedi, and that what he was doingbwas evil, but he didnt because the force told him that this would bring balance. what do you think

I think he should of as he probaly not the only one who thought like that and he could of stood for all thoose Jedi so the council then might consider how he felt and if they actually thought like him maybe Anakin probaly won't of turned so easily to the Dark Side.

I've been thinking about Qui-Gon's stance on things for a while and, while I will never say that he's wrong in his opinion of the late Jedi Order, he wasn't entirely right either. Here's the thing, Qui-Gon believed the Order had become pandering beatcops to the Republic. Fair enough, very true, a Jedi's place is not in the service of politicians or senatorial bickering. He stood for the idea that a Jedi's sole purpose was to follow the Will of the Force and nothing else, that they could only truly know their destiny if they submitted to it's voice. Now at first that sounds all well and good...until you really think about it. If the Jedi pull back from service to the Republic and focus only on what the Force is telling them they may very well have identified the Sith before they could enact the Grand Plan...but their relationship with the rest of the Galaxy would suffer. And I'm not talking about the politicians here, I'm talking about the normal everyday people who don't understand why their superheroes have decided they aren't worth helping. In fact, Qui-Gon's stance sounds an awful lot like that of the Jedi High Council of the Old Republic...and well, we all know what happened there. That's not to say Qui-Gon's ideals were wrong, I just think adhering only to the Force is not entirely right. The Jedi Order was founded on the idea of helping others, if that same Order suddenly chose to stop helping simply because the Force told them not to how exactly were the people going to react? Again, take a look at the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War and the aftermath to get an idea. Maybe it's because I'm more in tune with Kreia's approach but I feel Qui-Gon's views are a bit too extreme: Listen only to the Force and damn what others think, I just can't support that.

I love your videos! I thought the council believed qui-gon was too concerned with the future. Hence his obsession with prophecies, and the chosen one prophecy in particular. Not the other way around.

Qui Gon was very much a "live in the moment" character. Although it made him decisive in the immediate future, he may choose something that will do more harm than good with more patience and foresight. On another note, he would have been an amazing general in the clone wars, had he survived.

When you think about it Yoda was the wisest, yet failed as a jedi serving the senate. Qui Gon's following of the force allowed him to see through things that even the greatest jedi couldn't. The sith learned from their mistakes during Bane's time, yet the jedi remained complacent and were blinded by arrogance.

Qui-Gon saw favoritism in the Jedi council & the council just turned a blind eye to certain members they didn't want Qui-Gon on the board because he not only didn't take their shit but he called them on their shit as well. I'd say Qui-Gon is cross between a grey jedi & a dark Jedi.

Hence the reason Midichlorians did NOT ruin the force... it was the way the jedi understood it back then. Qui-Gon had a spiritual understanding of the force (When Qui-Gon told Obi-Wan to be mindful of the living force). This is the understanding Yoda came to during his time in exhile on Dagobah & this is what he taught Luke (our first introduction to the force). So i am very certain that by the time the sequel trilogy is complete, we will come to learn a greater aspect of the force.

well in the end Qui-Gon was right the council did a lot of corruption in the Senate to control their actions yes Sidious is had this plan along with his master for years but still it was one of their weaknesses another one he was right about was that they had no experience outside the temple it's quite going to actually had real life experience outside of the Jedi way of life which kind of help him but yeah these weaknesses could cause a lot of Jedi throughout their history gravelle Qui-Gon was not the first to think that the council was wrong if we look at the Old Republic we have many Jedi who thought the council was wrong everyone from Revan to Joey bimbo thought the council was wrong in their actions and finally the main weaknesses of the council was not letting their students learn different skills and different abilities outside the temple if we can see with many other Jedi Masters and knights at new different abilities and skills lived and survived Order 66 but they were able to use those and sorry Star Wars Theory that my writing is so long but Star Wars is one of my favorite fantasy world to escape in and Happy New year i hope you have a great night or day

I got the vibe in Phantom Menace that Qui Gonn would turn it down if offered.

Honestly, he should have been accepted and made Grand Master. His "hasty" nature was just him showing that he is truly one with the force for he regarded all actions and thoughts towards what the force willed. Then again, this is my opinion. Also, please make a video about Qui-Gon surviving and Obi-Wan surviving as well but Anakin is trained by either Yoda or Mace and as he grew, Anakin, Mace, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon would face the Emperor together. This really seems like one of the weaknesses of the jedi council. They wanted all members to adhere to the code instead of the force and by not allowing those that were more in tune with the will of the force on the council they missed possibly different perspectives that might have saved more jedi in the purge or even possibly prevented it.

Qui Gon was a bad ass. I loved him. I always wanted to see more of him.
