Why Singapore is Insanely Well Designed

Singapore is admired as one of the smartest countries in the world. Located along the Straights of Johor, Singapore has a population of over 5 million people, and has one of the largest economies in the world. Throughout the video, I explain how Singapore is designed so well, and how it became the economic giant it is today. I break down everything from Singapore separating from Malaysia, to the 1958 Masterplan that transformed the country, and the new, 2019 Masterplan that hopes to continue Singapore's ambitious urbanization plans for decades into the future.
The new 2019 Masterplan will invest over $100 Billion Dollars into future urbanization plans. The government hopes it will help support a larger population in the future, and also help their economic growth at the same time.
Singapore, officially The Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island in Southeast Asia.

As a Singaporean geography teacher, I am expecting much more in-depth content supported by facts than the constant motherhood statements being repeated from start to end. No details about the master and concept plans besides those floating maps and how they evolved? No mention of the way the city is physically laid out and the thoughts behind it?

He did mention the Master Plan but he did not elaborate further on this plan. Singapore long-term planning is done in 2 segments: 1) Long-term plan which guides Singapore’s development over the next 40 to 50 years, and covers strategic land use and transportation. It ensures that there is sufficient land available to meet the needs of long-term population and economic growth, balanced with a quality living environment. This long-term land use plan is reviewed every 10 years. The first long-term plan was formulated in 1971 2) The Master Plan translates the broad, long-term strategies set out in the Long-Term Plan into more detailed plans for implementation. It specifies permissible land use and densities, with the aim of guiding development over the next 10 to 15 years. The Master Plan is reviewed every five years and the last Master Plan was in 2019. The Master Plan is further supported by Special and Detailed Control Plans which are development control plans that includes parks and waterbodies, public spaces, conservation areas and monuments, urban design element, connectivity, building height, landed housing area and undergroud. Together both plans (Master plan and Long-term plan) provides a comprehensive, forward-looking and integrated planning framework for sustainable development in Singapore

There is no information in this video, you just repeated that Singapore is a rich country (the citizens or the government? What kind of government?) and they are smart. Smart in what way? What did they design? What do you mean design? The streets and buildings? The infrastructure? The tax system? Is there a financial benefit to the citizens? They had a master plan in 1958, what was it? What is the new 2019 plan? Urbanization is very vague. What is a sovereign country? Do they not have stop signs? Do cars drive themselves? The description of the video is the excited coked-out plan, the video is the next day on the couch, not answering the phone.

I'd question whether Singapore is in fact "insanely well designed". It is a city state with a land area of just over 700 square kilometers. Into this tight space you have to pack a population of just under 6 million. And still leave room for a water catchment, defence, open space, some primary industry and a transportation network including an international airport. There are already signs that infrastructure capacity is already being stretched. Road congestion and a recycled water supply being some of the obvious ones. A well planned Singapore would maintain a tight lid on population growth. Quality over quantity. In the 1980s, Singapore's long range plans anticipated an ultimate population of around 5 million. This figure has already been exceeded by a significant margin. At some stage, you have to stop packing more in because you can't make more land (super expensive reclamation aside). This is not to deny Singapore's many achievements, in areas such as public housing. But a clear eyed assessment of the factors that contribute to the good design of a city must go beyond glib statements and glamour pics of the CBD.

It is well designed because the government embraces meritocracy. Best brains for the job. This also resulted in the ruling party having most of the most intelligent people which also helped kept them in power as its a "no brainer" to vote in the party with the most brains. Hence, they then have the capacity and foresight to plan far far ahead. Say 50 years or even 100 years. Just imagine, if they have to worry about getting voted out every 5 years. How much effort would they put into those planning?

Singapore is not the 4th largest economy in the world. That title belongs to Germany. ASEAN as a group is the 5tj largest but Singapore alone ranked as 35th Why do people produce these videos with fact finding & verification just astounds me! I'm Singaporean

Yes Singapore is too clean too rich and too small. I think has reach it ultimate maximum at all area. no more land drove a car, it take less than 30 minutes from one end to the other. like balloon if feed more air to expand you know what will happen?

Not sure where the “facts” in this video came from. Strongly suggest viewers to view this 5min clip with a huge pinch of salt.
