I know many people lavish this praise on smaller channels but I truly mean it when I say this is one of the best edited and scripted videos I’ve seen in the last year and I’m utterly baffled as to why it hasn’t blown up, or you for that matter. Thank you for gifting us this work of art, it’s incredible.

I’m so glad to see such a fantastic video essay about my favorite 2000s album. Songs About Jane is one of extremely few truly no-skip albums in my opinion. Your other videos look awesome too!

I feel like it won't be soon before long is a sequel to Songs about Jane except it's about a different woman instead of jane and has adam doing the same things to the woman as she did with jane and not improving himself because of his ego. I find that album to be great as well but i think songs about Jane is their best album. You did an excellent job on this video.

The soundtrack of every break up and the hottest nights too. An earthquake guys. Not surprised everything went wrong after that. If you need a help to escape a toxic relationship, just runaway in listenning that album.

I'd never heard of Songs About Jane, but I kinda wish I had! Because although I recognized a couple singles, it was mostly all new sounds to me, and it seems like an album that I think I would've liked! But as it was, by the time I was paying attention to the music scene, Maroon 5 had already shifted away from that style into the style we know now. They've become less *Maroon 5* over the years, and more *Adam Levine* -- which I think in itself is quite telling as to who Adam is. As someone who's not familiar with the album, what an excellent breakdown. "Secret" in particular was the biggest revelation, as it showed in that moment everything we needed to know about Adam's unreliable narration, and who he actually is as a person. It's analyses like this that make me think separating the art from the artist is nigh impossible without hundreds of years of time to wash away the artist's impact. It's why Thirty Seconds to Mars has had a fall from grace amongst some of their fans, causing a divide. It's why Lostprophets disbanded when they found out what their lead singer did. Whether we like it or not, the albums we listen to reflect their creators in some way... and Songs About Jane, turns out, was an almost perfect mirror.

Tangled in my mind, is Adam’s way of showing Maturity in recognition that the break up is not completely Jane’s Fault. Harder to Breathe, This Love, and Through With You, paint Adam as the one going through pain, and puts a really one sided perspective of the breakup, Tangled is Adam’s way to recognize that He is not innocent. Consider the lyrics from 2 other songs: Harder to Breathe-“I have the tendency of getting very physical, so watch your step cause if I do you Need a Miracle” Through With you-“I spent every hour waiting for a Phone call I know will never come, I used to think you were the one, now I’m sick of thinking anything” Contrast that with the opening line of Tangled “I’m full of regrets for all the Things that I have done and Said” It stands out from the other songs, because it’s the most direct that Adam was the reason that the relationship died. A brief moment of self awareness, and accountability. Too bad it was overshadowed by the more angsty songs that paint Jane in the more negative light.

Always been a bit embarrassed at how much I love this album. It really does just read so toxic and tangled, but it also feels so human and is really nostalgic for me. Thanks for giving it a good deep dive- it really does capture some complex emotions

Another banger Kris. I remember being as young as probably 7 or 8 listening to this album. Which… if you think about it, is definitely not a good thing. But these songs all have that nostalgia of driving back home in the back of your parents car as you slowly bing your head looking out the window. Cool video, haven’t finished it yet but looking forward to.

Songs About Jane and Jason Mraz's Waiting for My Rocket to Come give me some serious early '00s nostalgia. It's a damn shame that Maroon 5 went full-on pop and didn't stick with their heavier rock roots. EDIT: Oh yeah, add John Mayer's Heavier Things to that list!

This is a fantastic video. Every song hooks me so hard and I've listened to the album probably a hundred times, but have literally never listened to any of their other albums. This album is like Die Hard. The first is so good I'm afraid to even peak at the follow up for fear it will take away from my love for the original. I need to watch your Green Day video next...

This album is a Masterpiece. As someone who is in general a very positive guy, and certainly more positive on later Maroon 5 output than most people, "Songs About Jane" still remains the best they ever were. There truly was something magical about it. 10/10 "It Won't be Soon Before Long" is also really good, and a worthy follow-up. 8/10 "Hands All Over" is good, but a bit aimless and unfocused, but some of the old magic is still present at times. 6,5/10 "Overexposed" is the full transition to full-on pop. And I think it's pretty good at just being pop. More consistent than the last one. 6,5/10 "V" is kinda strange since the album as a whole is not technically as good, but I think some of the old magic from S.A.J. shinees through again in a lot of songs, and that increases my liking of it. 7/10 "Red Pill Blues" is for me where their true decline sets in. Still, even here there are some songs I really like, and there's no song I actively dislike. 6/10 Haven't listened through all of "Jordi" yet, but the singles I've heard from it seem to indicate a similar level of quality as R.P.B.

I remember my mom playing this album on our little CD player all the time as a kid, I'd heard it so many times never really knowing what any of it was about, and I never really looked more into it until seeing this video. It really takes me back to laying on a rug from decades before me and discovering music for the first time, I'd say when gorillaz debuted that more shaped my early love for music, but this album was there too in the background, I just never paid it any mind.

Yeah yeah, that's great and all, but Adam Levine literally said in an interview that this song was inspired by their label, Octone Records, who pushed the band to keep writing when they wanted to stop. I don't think it's really about a relationship as much as it is about the label pushing them to put out another song.
