It was the be dry part of the old games and I don’t understand why it wasn’t the main focus for the new ones. The space battle mode where you attack the enemy ship was so cool. An updated next gen version would have been so cool. Thats what disappointed me the most about the new games

The scenarios were amazing at how easily you could transition air-ground. But since losing my bf II psp disk it always felt like elite squadron battles were repetitive maybe because of being too open?

@@grdrdddMich Probably because there was only one objective. The game makes it seem like there is more than one, but there really is only one. Fight on land to capture the laser. Use the laser to destroy the capital ship's shields. Find a ship and fight your way onto the capital ship. Battle to the reactor. Destroy the reactor. It's very cool but very repetitive.

Star wars battlefront: a new hope

That’d be sick. I remember seeing back in the day the team working on the game at the point clone wars content launched was pretty small considering. So I always assumed they just got all the main clone skins in and left it at that leaving full customization on the cutting board. I 100 percent believe when they were forced to take out loot boxes that the higher ups pretty much gave up on this game right then and there. Probably lowered the amount of staff working on it and hoped it would die quicker then it did.

In republic commando you could do that to a degree

they had this sort of thing on the PSP for Battlefront Renegade Squadron, it isn’t anywhere near in depth as what u described but it allowed you to, for example customize the head, body , colour, & even insignias of your rebel trooper (or clone,stormtroopers, etc.) although limited it was really cool to stand out amongst the PSP bots 😂

I remember playing the original battlefront 1&2 on the PS2. The second one blew my mind. It was a huge step up from the first. The story, the huge galactic conquest mode, the vast array of maps that you could tweak settings with, the map where you could play exclusively as heroes, as well as being able to play as heroes period. What a time to be alive. Then I played a little of the 2015 battlefront and thought, “that’s it?” after thumbing through the mind boggling 4-5 maps available.

The campaigns in the OG Battlefronts, as I remember them, were just slideshows with voiceovers. I mean not slideshows but prerecorded gameplay with someone talking over them. Not interesting at all.

When you only play shooters for the single player, occasional couch multiplayer, and once in a very great while online multiplayer co-op with RL friends the lack of a campaign kills your interest. I'll take a short campaign over no campaign any day.

Republic commando is one of the most underrated games!!!! It was so good back then and it still makes a lot of fun nowadays. You will recognize it's age, but it still tells an original and interesting story which let a lot of people thinking what happened to seven.

EA and DICE only care about their consumers bank accounts. They do not care about gameplay or video games in general. Battlefront 2 caused a ton of controversies with their "surprise mechanics" and I don't think they would want to go through the same lawsuit. After being called out, they were forced to fix the game, release content without getting as much money as they were promised by the marketing team. In retaliation just like any Corporate would do, they abandoned the game. So until we give them our money and stop complaining about microtransactions and pre order bonuses, we're not going to get another Battlefront game.

@@FutaCatto2 this isn’t even a matter of “EA is greedy.” A third Battlefront game, pretty much no matter what way they sliced it, would absolutely print money for them and they would easily see a return on their investment if for no other reason than the IP. EA’s decision not to make another Battlefront game is nonsensical even from a business perspective. This is not a clear cut case of EA just being hungry for money, that we could easily point the finger at and it’s certainly tempting to do so given their reputation. However, there simply isn’t a good reason for them to not release another Battlefront game in regards to the profit they would make on it. They would almost certainly see a return on their investment. I know we love to shit on EA for how they have generally been the textbook example for how greed negatively affects the gaming industry, but in this case, I don’t even think it can be attributed to greed.

@@thegrapethief5514 I disagree. EA is a huge Company and they are known to do the same shady business models on multiple titles such as Fifa and Sims. Both of these games being on mobile and can cost thousands of dollars in microtransations to unlock content or better equipment. Printing money by selling a game alone isn't enough for a Company as big as EA. This isn't Larian we're talking about here, EA is not an India Company nor are they are honest Company. When it comes to making a high quality video game, you need experienced Artists and other staff alike. These Artists will ask for higher pay. Higher pay requires Management to depend on the Marketing Team to figure out how to milk their consumers wallets after buying the base game.

Bf4 never made it past the concept stage; it's part of an agreement Free Radical signed with LucasArts that made them responsible for yearly installments of the battlefront games. It most likely would not have been a good game with how things were going at the time, yearly installments and all. That being said, the concept does sound cool, and I like that we have leaked concept art and whatnot

Elite squadron looked very similar in style and scope to what the unfinished bf III footage was in this vid

I think free radicals battlefront 3 way more stuff than psp version of elite squadron but yeah we will never get third battlefront game again sadly 😢

Elite Squadron’s story is literally a stripped down version of the story we would have gotten in Battlefront III with a few minor changes and less cutscenes than we would have gotten in Battlefront III. For example, that infamous cutscene of Ferroda fighting off clone troopers during Order 66 never made it into Elite Squadron. Also a BUNCH of X2’s character development and his training under Rahm Kota was either cut or stripped down in Elite Squadron. And let’s not forget the “dark wookiee clones” at the end of the game which I’m convinced were a last minute addition because they needed something menacing and didn’t want to go back to the drawing board and come up with another enemy unit.

If a developer has to put that in just to please a certain small handful of gamers sensitivities, then it shows they have lost what it means to be a developer, artist or creator in the first place. There's actually a tactical star wars shooter being done by Respawn right now. Directed by Zampella, aka the founder of infinity ward and creator of the original modern warfare Trilogy as well as the director of Titanfall, I have high hopes for it. it's in good hands. But It's feared that it might not be multiplayer-focused. And might turn out to be like Republic Commando.

You also can’t get in and out of vehicles such as a LAAT gunship if I remember right. You can’t use some vehicles like transport vehicles for their intended purposes

I constantly replay campaign, instant action, and galactic conquest. Not into PvP so the EA battlefronts never held my attention long.

I don't recall everything from that time or even how long they were working to get to where they were at; but, hobby projects will usually take longer. Also, demonstration pieces are there as templates to extend from with glue code and additional logic. What they demonstrated looked pretty good to me. I am basing that on my knowledge set of personal experience, fuzzy memory, and things I've seen others do/discuss on game development as a whole. Also, as someone who does software development, demonstrations can not only show the potential but are also learning pieces and help developers note potential pain points or even sections of work that will need rethinking. My personal attempt as mentioned initially are my own kind of demonstration pieces to myself to test the tools and water out so to speak. It is currently janky but in time will be good after I get used to the tools and patterns I'm unfamiliar with. What I'm trying to say is is that I don't think they sold the public false goods or progress. You're being too harsh or so it seems to me anyway.

A lot of stuff in development was canceled when Disney bought Star Wars (including BF3). Some were in early stages while others like BF3 were pretty far into it. Disney did not care, and having many different studios make different licensed games for a single IP at the same time seemed to not be their thing. Then they sat on it for a while.

Plus, they probably see the severe decline in Star Wars related movies and shows and think there's a correlation, when the real issue is that the people making these movies and shows don't know or care about Star Wars. To them, it's nothing but a vehicle to push certain narratives and to self insert both themselves and their personal ideologies. If anyone came out with an honest to goodness good faith attempt at a Star Wars movie, show, or even game, people would flock to it like they did 10 years ago. It's the fact that every industry treats Star Wars as nothing more than a trojan horse to sneak other stuff in, whether it's politics or loot boxes, is the only reason people have lost interest. @@NitroStarman

@@griffin1366 I think they could implement a parry system for blade to blade combat. Sorcerers could be healers and use ranged ability combat. Rangers and elves could be archers, all attacks even ranger can either be parried or blocked if timed right. I’d want the combat to be more about skill than cheese. The better the player, the more they’re rewarded with playing as powerful characters like Saroun, Aragorn, Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas, or the Balrog. If it were me making it, I’d totally implement the what if’s of lord of the rings. Like Gollum Bilbo, Gollum Frodo, Evil Gandalf, Pure Sauron, Ring Wraith Elves, The Bright Lord. So many bright ideas, so few skills 😢

Very good point, but from a business perspective: you gotta change things up to harvest some ripe, low-lying fruit. Customization needs *massive* importance? Do it. Hire an outside company to handle concept art, which wouldn't hit the BF3 developers desk until it's green-lit. Totally opinion, but those "alternate" are works in this video of dark Obi, etc? Some of those are cool enough to make me think quality over quantity, even in an EA published game. I certainly agree just Battlefront 3's inception isn't an easy task, but it's high time we start getting some talent in the ranks of Video Game Execs, who would salivate at the challenge.
