Team Fortress 2 has a ton of fun and exciting Gamemodes! Territorial Control though was the odd one out. Let's talk about it's history, it's only map and why it failed.
We aren't fixing it though, that's WAY to hard.

in my experience its really fun if the teams are big and balanced, it has those long struggles a lot of maps dont really have anymore.

Idea of a rework on the gamemode: So because the gamemode is called “territorial control” I … still struggle to figure out how to make it more than just a cp game so here’s an idea Each team has a number of around 100, each kill reduces it by 2 and when the capture point is taken then the number of points is reduced by 1 every second (or the number can work vice versa)

i like hydro lmao it's fun imo peoples brains being full of sand is no reason to not have fun, just play the game and win it's the same objective as any other lol

Love tc. Don't love it enough to play in a gamemode that brakes its spawns. Worked great in quickplay, while casual causes you to spawn in the wrong terretorries.

Territorial Control could work, but would require more simplistic maps, which with an average play time of five minutes or so. Hopefully, a simplistic map, means shorter load times. An ideal sort of situation would be 13 maps connected together, with the central one being the starting point, and the other maps being touched depending on who wins. However, this runs into the whole control point gameplay. Why bother with such a map design when 5CP exists? Only reason I can think of, is to allow for more classes to participate in a 5CP variant. The slower classes now can participate in the map more often, then in 5CP's ridiculously long spacing between spawn and the front lines.

I like hydro, and I think it’s a fun map! I understand it’s flawed, but I like it the same way many people like 2fort. It’s not designed well but it’s surprisingly fun to play on!

Hydro is honestly a really good map, one of the better of the first six, and honestly should just be made into a control point map

I’m perplexed as to why they didn’t just rework the map like that. Its not uncommon for maps to be revamped for a different gamemode.

To all those who may question my tone: I don't hate Territorial Control, I do try to be positive with every gamemode, but there hasn't been much to root for besides a flawed map. Which unfortunately nailed the coffin shut long before most players got a chance to play the map. Personally I have only played a good three actual rounds on Hydro, I have played countless rounds that have had player number issues that dragged the map down. My personal Opinion is that Hydro REQUIRES 48 players with no areas closed off to feel like the game would run smoothly.. but that isn't how the gamemode works so at the end of the day it's a pipe dream.

as someone who worked on 10 territorial control maps, i can say that hydro is a prime example of miscommunication in map design. it has the "dustbowl syndrome" that a lot of mapmakers have that think that bigger is better. in my experience for territorial control at least, is that less is more. very small interconnected territories are the key and the final points should be treated more like penalty zones for a last ditch effort to save the game. the rounds in tc need to be really short too like on average my maps round timers are around 2:30. i even got rid of the final points in some of my maps to focus on the four intersecting points. it becomes a lot like tennis in that regard where you capture 1 territory and get adv. and then another and get game. honestly it makes me think of fix ideas that a lot of people make for arena, like the way to fix arena was to fix tc.
