I really like how Peter's symbiote suit, in this story, makes sense as a metaphor for drug addiction. Peter finds an outlet for all the stress that he's built up in both his civilian and super-hero lives. He insists that it's fine to people that are genuinely concerned, despite the effects on his mind and body, despite the mornings where he couldn't remember what happened last night. By the time Miles helps him out, Harry has had enough of his shit and lashes back out at Peter.

I definitely did not read the ending as Peter stepping away permanently. Interesting how differently we read it.

I wouldn't say Peter is giving up the mask. At its core, this decision is about finding that balance. Besides, Peter may be okay physically, but emotionally, not so much. Almost destroying himself and his core relationships, I would say this is also about repairing what he almost lost. I'm glad he finally has that community that can support him. To think, that this gift happened because he helped Miles when he was at his lowest. Miles did the same here. I'm excited to see what gonna happen for Cindy.

This really is the perfect Spider-Man universe. Where we can see Peter and MJ have a family. Without Peter giving up his responsibilities as Spider-Man because HE HAS HELP. He has a Spider Family. And even tho his family passed he gets another one through Miles. And hopefully in the next game Cindy’s family as well. Norman is One More Day Peter. Not allowing May to die. Which is why Peter letting May die in the first game hit so hard for me. Like YES HE MADE THE RESPONSIBLE CHOICE!!! And because of that he’s blessed with more family. I’m just as happy with Insomniac for letting Peter grow up. It’s cathartic and just so happy to see.

I personally don’t think Peter has quit being Spider-Man, Miles said “Go be Peter Parker for a while”, so I think he’s just taking a break and Miles is giving him that time now that the two of them know he’s ready to take it on all on his own and Peter will come back whenever he wants to, maybe when he’s finally got his balance as Peter and Spider-Man. I could even see that being the big thing in the opening of Spider-Man 3, maybe Miles and Silk if Cindy has her powers at that point (though I imagine they’d have to make a Silk game similar to Miles’ solo game so the opening of the third can have all three Spider heroes together for the tutorial) going up against some kind of villain that Norman sent after them for whatever reason, Miles may be ready but is still having problems here and Cindy is having more because of her starting not too long ago and while Miles has been holding off on calling Peter for like the first half of the fight, eventually he decides he can’t do that much longer and so we cut to Peter getting a call or message from Miles about how he and Cindy need his help, maybe we can have some kind of parallel of the opening of the first game where Peter isn’t having problems getting his suit on, he already had breakfast so he doesn’t need to eat while suiting up, and when he grabs his mask we can see the mortgage or the rent or whatever, I don’t know how that works, come in, MJ steps in and maybe says something like “I’ve got this, go get ‘em Tiger” to bring in that line, and after how long since the second game (I’m thinking in-universe maybe 1-2 years) Peter jumps out of the house as Spider-Man once again, finally with his own balance

This game delivered a very interesting story about two Spider-men and the balance between their heroic self and their life as Peter/Miles. It was a great analysis of yours ! Although I don't think Peter will quit forever and he's just taking more time for himself, trusting Miles enough for him to become the only Spider-Man around for a while.

But it’s safe to call this another thrilling Spider-Man adventure that delivers Insomniac's best tale yet, and despite its open world falling short, it's a reliably fun superhero power trip. And, you know what? Screw it. It really did make me feel like Spider-Man, too.

Miles' side arc between him and Li was also some of the BEST parts of the story in my opinion! Loved that they made it a huge point of growth for Miles instead of just side missions involving Li

Pretty sure a reason they didn't save Venom for the third game was because they've been setting up Goblin since the first game, and they didn't want either to fight for prominence in one entry in the series.

I absolutely loved the colors within the game and each character just tells you the path they might go on or be. Especially Norman Osborn consistently wearing green. There’s always some hint of green in his outfits. Then of course MJ and her yellow sweater. The game was fantastic

This video essay was brilliantly said and made! You made so many good points, especially how the supervillains take Peter and Miles' no killing/2nd chance opinion for granted- considering the had the power to kill them all. However, I do think that it worked to have Venom here! I see Kraven less as an antagonist and more of the catalyst for the entire story. Every single event and ultimately harry turning into venom was a result of Kraven. He may not have been the primary antagonist, but he certainly was responsible for the nearly entire story, and I think it worked perfectly!

I get being concerned about Peter potentially stepping down permanently, but that's not what either he nor Miles said. Miles specifically says, "Go be Peter Parker for awhile." "For awhile," are the key words here. I think this is just Pete finally getting a much needed break after everything, and this is an example of balance too in that one Spidey can rest while the other tags in. After all, we've already seen them swing into action together at the top of the game, and they even take down Venom together so having them swing off together again like at the end of Miles' game and the beginning of this game would be redundant. Letting Peter step back and rest, entrusting the future to the next generation is the message here as well as letting your friends, you partners, your family support you and even take on jobs for you. That is part of being a team, or at least what it's supposed to mean. Someone else gets to work this shift so you can chill and refresh yourself. Plus, Peter has a lot to work on with the Emily-May Foundation and it'd feel terrible for him to abandon that to continue being Spider-Man. He's letting go of something that doesn't serve him to focus on something that does, a lesson Miles learned too. However, in this instance, Peter is only stepping back for a moment; it doesn't mean Pete is abandoning the city as Spider-Man. Again, he's just going to "go be Peter Parker for awhile." He's going to be himself, something he hasn't afforded himself for a long time which not only led to a prior break up with MJ before 2018, but also nearly tore them apart again with the symbiote. He needs time to himself. That's all. I get it, I don't want to say goodbye to Peter as Spider-Man either, but I don't think that's the plan here. Peter is simply getting a vacation. Miles may step up and become the main Spider-Man, but Peter will always be around as another Spider-Man, the original that will always be there to provide support and guidance while the newer cements their legacy, and I'm sure Pete will be jumping back into action alongside Miles, especially once the Goblin comes in. There's no way they bring back Ock AND introduce Green Gobo without Peter. I have way more faith that Peter will return. He's just finally living as himself, something we all need to do, and maybe next game we'll see Miles do something similar while Cindy Moon takes on web slinging as Silk.

I just absolutely love how the game fuses the symbiote storyline and Kraven's Last Hunt into 1 story because it makes so much sense to me that Kraven wouldn't view Spider-Man as the ultimate prey, but rather the symbiote or Venom. It's something alien, something beyond him, and it was the only thing to truly challenge him

I absolutely loved the MJ as Scream scene. Even though the symbiote changed her to someone she wasn’t, I think it’s clear that it brought out a lot of frustration and anger that she represses, just like the video was saying about Kraven bringing out the worst in people, so does the symbiote. How can she get mad at Peter when he risks his life everyday for the city, and for her? Yet she has her own struggles, with a partner she loves but who can’t be reliable. I loved this game, I loved the story and I love Peter and Miles.

Never had a games story draw me in so much, 11/10 for me

Peter is not giving up the mask. He’s taking a step back and letting miles take the lead, and he’s focusing MORE on his personal life. For 9 years now Peter has been putting Spider-Man before Peter Parker. Peter didn’t cease to exist he just came second. Now he’s switching it around. Peter comes first but that doesn’t mean Spider-Man doesn’t come at all. I would be 99% sure we’re gonna get Spider-Man 3 that takes place a year after Spider-Man 2. And Peter is gonna temporarily take the lead back, but in the in between year, between 2-3 miles will be the main guy. But then green goblin comes in and it’ll be a Peter villain, and most of the side missions will be miles centric. Or maybe there’s a miles morales 2 before SM3 where we see miles having access to the full map in a solo game.

SPOILERS. The game is amazing BUT... The story was really short. There wasn’t nearly as much stuff to do in NYC as there was in the first game. Not releasing with New Game Plus is kinda dumb. There isn’t a character library with awesome profiles to read. The game padded out the runtime with obtuse boss battles and nearly ending arena fights but it was like a 8/10. Great story and characters. Cool twists too. They definitely killed more characters than I expected. Playing as Venom was also insane. There are some of the best action set pieces in any game ever in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Personally the side content like with other villains in the first one was more interesting. I liked Spidey interacting with the city A LOT in the second one but it felt like the story wasn’t as expansive. No screwball or taskmaster side stuff. The missions that do involve new villains are just a hours worth of build up to “I’ll be in the sequel”. That’s not pay off. Those missions are what kept me coming back. They could have added more side stuff that benefits the story. Expand the black cat stuff. Or show Kraven hunting the two other villains he kills. I thought a lot of the arena like battles did over stay their welcome. WAY too many enemies and waves. I just think this one needed more stuff in it before release. Felt more like the size of Spider-Man: Miles Morales than Marvel’s Spider-Man. That’s also ignoring the 3 or so times I had to restart from checkpoint because of glitches.

This is nowhere near better than the first game's story. Its a huge disappointment for anyone who was waiting to play this game.

12:07 Man this is the best side quest in the game. This actually made me cry. I complete this quest with Peter Parker every time. Also this video has a fantastic analysis on the main story. I love the first game but the sequel has a better story. Also I’m cool with peter taking a break because man he does need to take care of those bills. Sadly being Spider-Man doesn’t have a paycheck. Anyway I am excited for the third game and I am hoping that Peter stays alive.

Ive thought since NWH, if we got another trilogy with Tom Holland, Id love to see the next trilogy focus more on just Peter without the external MCU characters guidance. Having the next film focus on him in college, introducing Harry as a new best friend (since his old friends dont remember him) & oscorp. Scorpion would be a great villain as he was teased earlier, and hes supposed to be a superior spiderman so he would be a great villain for spiderman to face off alone without the help from other heros/friends. If they made him a good enough villain he would have a part to play in every film. Going off the comics, the sequel could have the venom story (and could tie into the first movie as venom attaching to scorpion initially was an og story arch). This movie could also introduce Miles as Peter starts to take the role that previous heroes had with him. The final film could be Peter & Miles against the sinister 6 (I dont think NWH really counts) being led by Harry, maybe including scorpion, vulture, and mysterio all returning again, along with new faces like rhino & kraven. This would conclude with Tom’s peter passing the torch to Miles.

As good as this one is, the first one was better story wise, it took the time to really flesh out the relationship between you and Doc and his gradual decent into madness leading to the ultimate betrayal, I felt like the moments with Harry were a little rushed, same with Miles and Lee, didn't feel as emotionally invested. Venom was top notch tho

My problem is Miles is a Gary sue…. He gets all the benefits of being spider man with none of the negative. His entire community knows who he is and does he face consequences? No you would think his family would be in danger but no. Does he ever face true self conflict? Sure with li but he quickly gets over it? His electric powers keep evolving but he doesn’t face any downsides from them? Peter was amazing because Peter wasn’t perfect but miles is way to perfect if you ask me and I hope he faces true adversity in the next game

This game is the perfect Spider-Man story. It truly understands why we love Spider-Man. Peter and Miles are heroes but they are still human and they make mistakes but they don’t let those mistakes define them.

He did not retire at the end of the game and that’s a fact. The line “go ahead and be Peter for a while.” Proves that. “A while”. Just pay attention and you’ll get it, it’s not that hard. Also Harry didn’t intentionally give the suit to Peter. Just look at his face, he’s clearly surprised the suit it going to Peter. I have no idea why that gets to me so much and I’m actually really concerned.

I wonder how much the cutscenes would cost if they were made as a live-action film. I can understand the hesitance to include Kraven, the symbiote suit, and Venom all in one game, but I don't think the game would've worked if it only gave us part of the symbiote & Venom story - either they shouldn't include the suit or they need to have Venom, it feels too incomplete to separate them, and Kraven was the perfect foil to make the black suit-to-Venom story work (though there's a part of me that's sad we didn't get more nods to Kraven's Last Hunt, I almost expected he'd secretly be Venom, or would at least get symbioted). In that line, I think things would be better if Carnage isn't in #3 - I almost think he'd be better as the villain of all or part of whatever DLC this game gets, then give us a mostly clean break from symbiotes (maybe Norman can briefly use one out of desperation if they really want, but I'd just as soon be done with it unless they want to set up a Venom spinoff). I am curious about what we may get through DLC or future games, but I'm still basking in the glow of a great game. Not perfect, but fantastic. Spider man 2 video game is extremely amazing and I absolutely liked it alot very cool and incredible ever nice

No shot a perfect Spider-Man movie has Peter taking off the symbiote suit because Miles Morales convinces him to. That entire arc is supposed to be a character building moment for Peter and it’s spoiled by it being “Miles is there to pick up Peter when he’s down”. No. Peter is supposed to pick himself up. It’s an easy fix too. The boss fight should’ve been you playing as Peter and beating Miles to almost death then him realizing what he’s doing and ripping the suit off. What we got was LAME. The black suit arc was also rushed. They should’ve kept Miles and MJ missions out of the game and used that time to flesh Peter out. Give us more time with Harry and really show us his downfall. Give Miles his own game where they can flesh him out. Neither character really got what they deserved by cramming them both into the game. People will realize this once the new shiny coat of paint wears off.

As always, another great video from you my man. Spider-Man 2 caught me off guard in a few places. I played as Miles when doing the Harold side quest, and it was beautiful. I'm not sure if the dialogue is much different from when you play as Peter, but it was one of those moments that I had to stop, think, and take it all in. The second time was when you talked to the grandfather in the park about love. Beautiful moments like that really put me through it. I can't tell you how many times I would just stop on the top of a building, and admire the beauty that they created. I was in a rough place in life when I finally got around to playing the first Spider-Man PS4 game in late 2021. That game was incredible, but I wonder if it was where I was mentally that kept me from enjoying everything around me the way I enjoyed it in Spider-Man 2. I love that game, but that was the first time I had dabbled in Spider-Man games since the original Spider-Man 2. I had mostly been keeping to Batman Arkham when it came to superhero games. Don't get me wrong. I think that Spider-Man PS4 was a masterpiece, but Spider-Man 2 crafted such a beautiful narrative about balance, community, and taking care of those you love. That really resonated with me. It wasn't perfect I must admit, but I think it may just be my favorite game of all time. Maybe it's because of where my mental health is at now, that it is in a much better place, but this game was just a blast from start to finish. I don't think I've ever nerded out more over a game in the first 30 minutes. I love Peter Parker, but I think that Miles character development has been beautiful. I love how he has grown so much in such a short period of time. Both with the Spider-Verse movies, and the games. I don't think Peter will be hanging up the suit permanently, but this is the chance to elevate Miles even more so that way he can be a leader just the way Peter was. That's how I see it. 27:12 Peter Parker's legacy will ALWAYS be Spider-Man. That's a constant for him. Any time when he seems to be avoiding it is a temptation and a sign that he's temporarily buckling under the pressure of being a superhero. The job at the foundation was nothing but an easy way out; a temptation. A too good to be true scenario. I'd say "quit polluting the internet with your hot takes", but everyone's entitled to a mistake here and there.

Miles does NOT surpass Peter in any way. At best, he matches what Peter would have done if he hadn't been symbiote-infested, and he does this because Peter taught him everything about being Spider-Man. Peter learns and grows as a character, and Miles barely changes at all, apart from abandoning vengeance on Li.

This, spider verse and he new Ultimate spider man comics makes me realize its cool seeing peter as an adult and he doesn't need to be in college or school in general for him to be interesting. But the point of why those stories are good is the real life circumstance but as an adult he has more to worry about. Morgages, jobs, taxes, and more while being Spider-Man is a lot more interesting. I appreciate your video but I really can't agree with you. The problem of the game is that, in a story about being stronger together, they instead choose to write passing of the torch. I agree that's it's good for Peter to live his adult life, but to have him relying on someone else to save people is a non sense for this character. He is not even 30 but the narration of the game shows him as weaker and not as efficient as he was before and certainly not as good as Miles... Really ? The laziest narrative trick is ok ? It could have been ok if Peter story is closed, I would have been ok with it. But... They are teasing the Green Goblin and Doc Ock as the main villains for Spider-Man 3, Peter two arch nemesis... If the passing of the torch was at the end of Spider-Man 3, with all storyline related emotionally to Peter are closed, it could make sense to have Peter retire, /half timer or even dead, maybe have a baby with MJ, and Miles become fully the new Spider-Man. But at the end on Spider-Man 2, we have a half retired Peter who is ok to have a younger Miles sacrifice his life to save New York, while we know that the biggest treat arrive. Are people really ok to have Miles dealing with the Green Goblin and Doc Ock with a Peter who will be there as a secondary Spider-Man ? Really ? How is it good and respectful writing? Peter is not balancing his life, he choose the easy way out ! Peter "with great power comes great responsibility" Parker ! It's not respectful for Peter who look like a secondary character in his own story and some kind of a coward, nor for Miles who can only rely on Peter legacy of character and story, so still not really his own character. I have to say, and I'm sorry to have to write that, Insomniac completely lost my trust with this. It's a shame because Spider-Man 2 storyline have good writing and development for some part, Kraven is a ok secondary villain, Venom is probably at his peak since he is now related to Harry. And speaking of Harry, he was clearly the best part and the heart of the game with his relationship with Peter. But for all their good ideas, they had to also do a passing of the torch while it was supposed to be a story about being stronger together. I guess it's not, they can't count on me for their next dlc and games. The new normal is very empty while it could have been easily great.

I do think the ending is Peter stepping down as Spider Man and the end of the trilogy will be Norman as the villain forcing Peter to wear the mantle again

I'd like to see a live-action adaptation of "Spider-Man: The Last Stand" with Yuri Lowenthal playing an older Peter Parker.

I can understand the hesitance to include Kraven, the symbiote suit, and Venom all in one game, but I don't think the game would've worked if it only gave us part of the symbiote & Venom story - either they shouldn't include the suit or they need to have Venom, it feels too incomplete to separate them, and Kraven was the perfect foil to make the black suit-to-Venom story work (though there's a part of me that's sad we didn't get more nods to Kraven's Last Hunt, I almost expected he'd secretly be Venom, or would at least get symbioted). In that line, I think things would be better if Carnage isn't in #3 - I almost think he'd be better as the villain of all or part of whatever DLC this game gets, then give us a mostly clean break from symbiotes (maybe Norman can briefly use one out of desperation if they really want, but I'd just as soon be done with it, unless they want to set up a Venom spinoff). I am curious what we may get through DLC or future games, but I'm still basking in the glow of a great game. Not perfect, but fantastic. I'd say GOTY if it weren't for Baldur's Gate 3 (not sure what else would even compete, but I'm sure that sentence will lead me to hear it).

I feel like Peter isn't giving up Spider-Man and hanging up the mask I think he's just taking a brake like in miles' game he's just taking a vacation a well deserved one. You know just so he can get his Peter Parker in life in order before he can start being Spider-Man again.

This is a perfect spiderman story... Wow i mean it has the same story beats as the last game. How can you say this is perfect, it felt rushed at best.
