The balor is also pretty capable of acting as an artillery frame as its traits and systems can diswayed enemies from getting near it.

Yeah, the Regen factor is shut off for its next trigger when it structures or stresses. I played a Balor that got structured once the entire time I played it, but another player in a different game got structured almost every fight, and never really got to keep their health high with the Balor. The Balor really needs to know when to aggro enemies and when to kidnap someone particularly scary and drag them away from everyone else.

I built up something that I feel is a pretty good Balor, at LL6 for good measure. Though it could work at LL4 at the earliest. Balor 3, Black Witch 1. For Nanobot Whip, Ferrous Lash, and Magnetic Cannon as positioning tools. The LL6 version also uses Zheng 2's Total Strength Suite 2 for extra Grappling damage, but isn't needed. The LL6 version I've theorycrafted has 25hp per Structure, Swarm Body and Personalizations, a Speed of 4 and Eva of 8, Executioner 3, Pankrati 3, Hunter 2, and Brawler 1. Core Bonuses of Mount Retrofitting to add an Aux slot to the Mag Cannon for a Tactical Knife to benefit from extra movement with Hunter. And Auto-Stabilizing Hardpoints to help the Nanonbot Whip crit more often, to pull enemies into Swarm Body bearhugs. For up to 11 Kinetic damage just holding them. Even without the Core Power or TSS2 being used. It's a scarily fast Balor that can move up to 7 spaces towards an enemy every turn without needing to Boost at all. You could also trade out the Mount Retrofitting for an Integrated Mount for the same utility. Might even be better, though the extra movement wouldn't really synergize with Swarm Body's desire to stand still and power up the millstone.

Balor is a really strange mech, your whole thing is that you’re basically impossible to kill with hp damage but vulnerable to heat but I find it tends to enter into a structure death spiral frequently. Since nanocomp is on its license i find it’s really good at being a long range dps despite its listing as a striker defender

a while back i joined a living campaign server or w/e they are called. kind of like a server where people play their own version of society i guess. but my first mech was balor(you went up LL really fast at low levels) with a heavy focus on drones and nexus weapons. it was an interesting experience. i was a huge thorn in the enemies side with all my aoe swarms, but i was also constantly getting my shit wrecked(which, tbf was kind of the point as a tank) and i even got that 6 one the CORE pop ability which was supper hype. though later i picked up hydra(i think) which has some crazy drone abilities and was really useful if i wanted to go longer range for a mission. sadly i haven't played in a long time and i lost all my compcon stuff for some reason.

As someone brand new to lancer, my immediate pull was a Balor Hydra thats just the biggest size possible

It might've been a weird kind of future-proofing. Or it's just a happy coincidence that a Balor with Swarm Body active can choose to affect a friendly White Witch to kickstarts it's armorpool?

With regards to the nano-whip, a really good cover is grappling or rank 2 brawler. High e defense enemies tend to be weak to grapples and/or have low evasion. The improved improvised attack does enough damage with regards to softer targets.

Reactive weave (Metalmark I) is very nice on this thing. Brace a big hit and your enemy has the option of either letting you heal or taking 50% miss shots.
