100%. I uh...paint, make wigs/clothes for three ball jointed dolls I have. One of them sort of looks like angie- if youre curious its "Doll Chateau- Mephisto". He is DARLING, just like Angie
Going into her mansion and facing her, she wasn't physically strong, but she makes up for it her power, her hallucination, and her level was the scariest.
@@HeYDeVuH Different from other Resident Evil games. All Ethan had to do is find her (or Angie) and stab her (as Angie) three times and kill her. Dealing with her was a very different boss battle. When we finally see her true face when killing her, she was just almost normal with the fungus mold covering part of face. She was very lonely in her home.
I feel like Donna deserved a better boss battle. I don't know how but I feel like the fear she can cause and her character design deserved something better than a chase of hide of seek.
I see what you mean and you know what I actually saw a concept of both Donna and Angie having a semi feral mutation. That could've been a great to have on top of the normal sequence we had
It feels like Donna never progressed mentally past the death of her sister and parents when she was a child. Angie seems to be a mixture of her true self (childish, mischievous, lonely and wanting attention) and what she wishes she was (confident, loud, crass, and fearless). She lures in "playmates" and never lets them leave and asks Ethan to forget about Rose and be HER father, instead. Looking at that and the fact that she was seemingly the only one to willingly accept Miranda's "adoption" it seems like she just wants a loving family again but her mental illness and the cadou have destroyed that dream. Killing her felt a lot like killing Eveline in RE7, like you've just been forced kill a very hurt and sick child that deserved better but that the cruelties of life and humanity had doomed.
I really like the idea that Angie is how Donna expresses her true self and who she wants to be. It’s like she can’t be loud and vulgar as Donna, but she can as Angie.
Wait that's the perfect explanation! I thought of it like that but your explanation is detailed so I'm leaving this comment here so in case someone likes it I can read this again.
This is why I felt bad fighting her and fish guy. They got the short end of the stick while the others were favorited more. (Dimitrescu and Heisenburg). Though ngl that baby gonna haunt me. That made me question if I was in a SH game for a moment when I saw that thing.
Gotta admit I feel kinda sad for Donna as Angie was basically the friend she created out of necessity to deal with her loneliness, & her Hallucinations of making you play hide and seek was her childish nature transmitted through her cadou as she probably thinks she's just playing around.
She definitely had a sad story. Imagine just being alone with only your dolls to keep you company in that remote house. No wonder the Gardener was so happy when he found out that Mother Miranda adopted her.
that's why I find I fell more sorry for her than all the other lords, It seams she just wanted a family, to fit in and be accepted, Mother Maranda took full advantage of that.
I think my favorite thing someones pointed out is that the scissors disappear too, so the reality of the fight is Ethan hunting Donna down and beating her with his bare hands
The fact that Donna blended into the background in the first scene worked so well, with Angie being the main focus, that I didn't even realise someone was there in my first playthrough
Yeah, it kind of reminded me of Victorian era photography of babies, when the mothers would wear black cloaks to hide themselves so the baby was the focus.
What breaks my heart the most is through notes and other media, it heavily implies Donna was extremely caring and loving towards rose before they...you know. She apparently asked to care for rose and play with her and would cradle her in her arms like she was her own child. If this is true, Donna has to be the most loving and compassionate of the 4 Lords
This was the impression I got too. It seemed like she was planning on Ethan killing her. I just assumed it was because she couldn't stomach putting Ethan through death like the ones she experienced
@@MadMax22 I agree. Even though Angie did say the entire time that she wanted to kill Ethan, Donna never really made many threats against him and unlike the other areas; the house wasn’t booby-trapped or set up to kill Ethan besides the dolls. Which I think now may have been the Cadou fighting Donna’s self-destructive plans and trying to keep them both alive. In my mind Donna just seemed like a lonely woman who only wanted a family, even her few voice lines sound frightened and desperate as though she’s trying to speak to Ethan through the hallucinations.
@@lavenderotaku2481 I have a theory that Angie and Eveline are connected in a way I don't think Donna feels the things that Angie feels and says I think Angie has her own personality They had similar lines about being jealous of Rose "I would've made a better daughter than Rose" similar to "But they are completely obsessed with stupid old Rose!" "Everything would be better if Rose wasnt born" is similar to "If you had never been born it would've been perfect!" "You do this to Rose too?!" Similar to "You won't get the crystal by slicing open your friends!" Even crazier is that Angie and Eveline share the same voice actress Another similarity is that Angie watches you the whole time during village in the beneviento section you can see her in the corner by one of the doors at one point. In the dlc during the part where you find the dolls to complete the dioramas you get this doll with black hair and a blue dress. She only is in the campfire diorama and she just watches. I think this doll was eveline watching Rose getting tormented and watching her all around the house
My Personal Opinion: I think the Beneviento part of RE Village was exciting because it had more of a Slient Hill feel to it. It has that Psychological Terror that keeps you on edge where you can't tell the Science aspect from the Occult aspect of Resident Evil.
Exactly this! Since Resident Evil was always based on science we always knew at least partly what to expect. In Beneviento's house we saw that anything is possible due to hallucinations.Capcom made excellent decision with that. They had freedom of making completely new type of horror that was never seen in Resident Evil due to being science based horror game.
House of Beneviento is the best house. It was absolutely terrifying and yes felt like Silent Hill. Silent Hill II and 4. I love every minute of gameplay.
A secret most people miss is when you leave the house and get the photo back, it has "take care of our little Rose" written on the back in ghostly handwriting. A final message from a regretful Donna?
It's mia handwritting, but sometimes i think donna cleaned the photo to serve Ethan as a reminder. I think Donna felt bad for Ethan and disgusted by Mia. She kind of implies that Mia Secrets made Rose a monster. I think mia radio voice and Phone calls are results of Donna experimenting on Mia with hallucinations, and what we hear are her confessions speaking between hallucinations.
@@yusukeelric That makes a lot of sense. Mia's confessions in the hallucinations sounded too true to be lies made up by Donna, and Donna wouldn't have a reason to fake what Mia would say. Explains Donna's motivations a lot more, and it's tragic how she was killed under the worst circumstances. If she wasn't dealing with a split personality and her Cadou influencing her to kill Ethan, she probably would've explained to Ethan what she knew about Mia in a more sane way.
Lady D gets all the shine ( deservedly so) but Donna/Angie was amazing and was by far the creepiest part of the game. I wish that part was longer. Extremely well done
While I was watching this, hearing her name Donna reminded of a dangerous flower called Belladonna. So I was thinking that the flower that Donna gave to the gardener was a yellow Belladonna, which affects the nervous system causing blurred vision, fast heartbeat, mental problems, spasms and *hallucinations.* Update: I was right wtf?
It's likely to be based on yellow Monkshood - also known as wolfsbane. This is another plant containing tropane alkaloids and grows in mountainous regions, including Romania. The inflorescence in the illustration is different, however; it's close to Jessamine.
Donna was originally going to be the Village Doctor? I would've liked that. She and Angie definitely were the scariest part of this game. I can kinda relate to Donna because I myself am very nervous about socializing because I'm legally blind, it's the biggest reason why I'm very reserved and closed off from most people. Similar to the other villains in this game I can't help but think they should've had more screentime, were really half baked or rushed. Even as a new fan it feels like it after seeing the Bakers, Eveline, William Birkin, Albert Wesker, the Ashfords, Nikolai and Nemesis.
Wait,so you don't feel comfortable with people because you have hard time seeing them because you're legally blind? That's completely opposite from my case.I have agoraphobia and I'm almost legally blind but that helps me tremendously because I feel more comfortable not seeing details and depth of field because it reduces feeling of open space (agoraphobia is fear from open spaces BTW). Anyway I'm sorry for your issues buddy.Hopefully you'll manage to fix your vision at least a little bit with time.
@@snakyYT There are text to speech programs designed for the blind/visually impaired, I'm using one on my Chromebook. How I type is based on the voice telling me what key I'm pressing and I was in typing class during high school so it was a great way for me to learn how to type quickly.
I think it was more Donna being a better daughter to Mother Miranda than Rose would be... A very childish thing to say... Which make sense if Donna's mental growth was stunted
Donna is clearly expressing her true self through Angie's actions & covering her whole body in black makes her want to be invisible to everyone, & given the fact the Cadou Parasite is inside her it's mistake to think Donna can transmit her inner emotions to Angie, which as Ethan the player has to deal with.
When you pointed out that the Mia body is the representation of how Mia keeps keeping secrets from Ethan, my mind was blown. When I watched that part in a gameplay, I couldn't understand what it meant. Thank you for explaining it.
If i was someone not driven by the same goals as Ethan, I’d want to stay with her and talk about literature and crafts. That’s probably how she would kill me.
@@Sytheduke imagine you’re running from the other lords and u meet Donna pull up at her house and you’re like ‘sheeeesh this is a nice sewing machine’ and Angie pops out of the corner like ‘YOU THINK SO?’
The fact that Markiplier only saved like twice in the whole Lady D section, and then spam saved every chance he got during the Beneviento house just speaks volumes on how out of left field this part was.
I watched Markiplier play this game and honestly I was busting up laughing the whole time. I loved how he kept Lady D's treasure and even spoke to it during the course of the game lol
The fight with this boss turned out to be very sad. It turns out that she was actually at the developmental level of a 9-year-old child and Ethan chases her around the house in a stupefied state and stabs her with scissors. While she "plays hide-and-seek" with him. Donna, because of her childlike nature, couldn't really hurt Ethan. A very cruel ending. You can see the blood on the walls as she runs away and it's Donna's own blood.
You know what Donna’s outfit in the 4 lords meeting reminded me of? There was a concept in the victorian era of taking babies photos and setting them on their mothers lap to get them to not move but they covered the moms up with similar dresses or blankets to make them look like a chair. Anyone else notice this?
Now that I think about it, I see your point. In the scene where the four lords are battling over who gets to "keep" Ethan, you can't notice Donna in the background first until she moves to pick up Angie. One of the concept art for Donna has Angie in her lap, and being brightly colored, the doll is the main focus of the picture.
those women werent the mother in the photos just a placeholder to keep the baby still their faces were covered as to not scare the child that theres a strange woman holding them
To elaborate, you only just left the first real challenge of the game after beating Demitrescue. I think more time could have went into letting players "feel comfortable" with their combat ability by taking out Moreau first, probably even give Heisenberg a means to confide in you and give you busy work. Anything to organically extend the time feeling comfortable with combat.
It should’ve been morau, Donna, dimitrescu then heisenberg. Ideally I’d love dimitrescu to go last but Heisenberg was the most important of the 4 to the story.
@@ShouAmaterasu Not really, you don't go straight to Beneviento after dealing with miranda. You first walk trough the village looking for the first part of the key. During that segment there is a Lycan raid. That's more than enough to finally grasp the combat. But i think the concept part where you are chased by the lycans to the beneviento house would have kept the game flow better. the fact that there isn't a single fight in the entire walking from the Duke to the Beneviento house, Garden included. Made the flow of the game stop completely. The gardeners could appear before you got to the Beneviento house instead of waiting until after you finish her.
I wish Donna had more time. I relate to her a lot, and it sucks that she didn't get a better boss fight. I love how Donna had a different approach to dealing with Ethan than the other lords, and I wish there was more to it.
@Charles - From Project Camelot OMG IT'S A VIDEO GAME?! I HAD NO CLUE! like no shit Sherlock, I know it's a video game. People can still have their opinions on characters though.
@Charles - From Project Camelot You can relate to a fictional character because they are given personality traits. also you completely ignored the fact that I KNOW IT'S A GAME! It's painfully obvious that you're just trying to get a reaction out of me, so I really don't give a shit
@@actias2632 I mean yeah man, you can see so many other comments echoing yours. This dudes just being a moron and trying to start crap with you. Also yes Donna is gorgeous
@@actias2632 Same, she is so pretty, she needed more details and screen time. I wish they had other details like spider inspired, the doll thing is overdone.
The Dimitrescu and House Beneviento-section where the strongest part of this game. I would appreaciate it if Capocom makes a Beneviento-DLC with the same vibe as in the main game. That was the most scariest thing i ever played since Silent Hill 2.😐
If they made a dlc for her, and while I hate to say it because it’s frankly sad, it should be her playing hide and seek and running away from a terrifying scissor monster (Ethan) who wants to cut the threads of her dolls, Aka her connection to her “friends”
I think the doll of Mia with all the personal items is there to plant the hallucination. He had to be thinking of Mia's secrets, what happened to them, what happened to Rose...is she a monster? He didn't go into that house ready to hallucinate the scariest monster Ive ever encountered in a game LOL- but he got there because of that doll
@@goodmorningcrystal Actually in the video it's possible that those weren't her sister's bones in the grave since they were adult build. It's possible her own family member or an unlucky soul who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I immediately got eaten by the baby, it scared me so bad. All I could do was throw my mouse and cover my eyes lol actually had to stop playing for a few hours and then look up a pic of the baby so I knew what I was in for - my anticipation of that the thing may have looked like was too much to go on
Haha I felt that I avoided all spoilers for the game when I first played and I was scared shitless because of that damn baby😂 my friends called me a pussy for being so scared but the game is so different if you’re the one playing it
@@dentingboi2981 that's what I'm talking about! I remember playing RE7&8 for the first time. My brother just laughed at me. I had him have a go. Guess what😏 man's was even more scared than i was
I wish that in the big reveal they would make it so that it turns out in the boss fight, Donna was just running around scared and hiding around while Ethan is still hallucinating because she was hoping Ethan would die of a heart attack or something after tripping balls in the spooky basement and the "attack dolls" would be him just accidentally stabbing himself on random doll making tools Donna kept around the place. Right now my headcannon is that the attack dolls still weren't real, but Donna stabbed Ethan, saw he just refuses to die after getting stabbed 10+ times and running around, trying to sneak attack him because she isn't a murderer but orders are orders >:P
The dolls were real. Everything that happens after you come back from the basement is real, implying that the flower is losing it's effect. Not entirely because Donna could still make herself invisible. But enough to keep ethan occupied a little more.
@@tokki3149it’s pretty dumb to disregard a major point of a character just so that you end off the character at the same point just slightly more undeveloped than what you would’ve if you didn’t disregard an integral part of her character
I feel so bad for Donna. Out of all the lords she seemed to be the least agressive, and the most manipulated. She was just a scared girl, transformed. She, being the least mutated, but still mutilated. The cadou forming on her scar, a bad memory she'd have to deal with everytime she looked at herself in the mirror. Donna, was very caring, only trying to trap ethan in fear of being hurt due to Mother Miranda's manipulation. She even left the note, "take care of our little rose.." for Ethan. Almost as if she knew he was going to kill her. She had left him hints, and exposed secrets his wife wouldn't reveal. Angie, being almost a protector for Donna obviously had to be everything she wasn't. Loud, crude, and energetic. I really wish we got more out of Donna, as she didn't deserve her death. Yes, she toyed with Ethan, causing him to haullucenate but did she have any other choice? He was coming to kill her, and she was trying to protect herself. She also was very sheltered as a kid and most likely didn't develop properly. I hope we get another look at her, like we're getting with Lady Dimitrescu.
True it's sad :( Angie and Donna seem like one person split into two halves. Angie having all the energetic and wild traits of a child, whilst Donna being shy and nervous. To me Donna seems like she's balancing very adult fears and pressures with her own child-ish personality. Angie is like her escape.
Fun fact! When fighting donna and you stab her for the first time , you can see blood trail in the house thats mean she was running from you ! Trying to hide
The first time I got cornered into a locked corridor and could do nothing but watch as it ate me. My girlfriend had to cover her eyes and I was shaking. ...thing is, we eat horror for breakfast. Well, it's mostly me forcing it on her, but the point is that we are well used to scary stuff. That creature with its voice...maybe it's because I generally find babies disturbing, but it touched a nerve with me. If you like the feeling of existential terror and...whatever category of body horror that basement was, I recommend Color Out Of Space(2019) It's...pretty disturbing.
@@evanharrison4054 I was terrified out of my mind when I saw that thing! I finished RE7 and even Ma Baker wasn't even so scary than demon baby was. Funny story, my wife hates horror and I'm also the one who tries to push the genre on her, but when I showed her how I tried to get past the demon baby in RE Village, she laughed and said that it was disturbing, but not scary. I was shookith! I'm definitely going to try out Color Out of Space, as long as it's not another Human Centipede situation. Thanks so much for the recommendation. 😁

@@saragreenfire4515 Definitely agree with that! I introduced my wife to the Saw franchise for the first time a while ago, and she loves true crime and thriller stories, hence why she loved the first movie regardless of the gore. And that scares the heebee geebees out of others. Something like that is terrifying, don't get me wrong, but honestly, my worst fear is definitely inhuman things running around this planet.
Literally going through Donna's area practically made me feel like I was on country mountain set of a Silent Hill game especially when you get to that damn Baby portion.
I hate Mia. I know this sounds silly but I was so happy to move forward for baby Rose but I had a hard time dealing with continuing in RE7 for horrible Mia
Donna’s section was by far my favorite for a multitude of reasons. For one, it feels like there is so much more going on than what you are seeing, everything in the house seems to have a story of its own, which mirrors a real lived in house, which is one of the reasons why I think Donna’s house feels so cozy, because it just looks like someone’s house with knickknacks and other small details that give it, dare I say, it’s own personality. The house looks warm and welcoming, I feel like it would smell like a wood cabin and linseed oil, with maybe a hint of a floral smell. And I’m not saying this to be weird, I’m saying it to emphasize that, to me, the house doesn’t feel like it’s for the player, it feels like it’s for Donna. It’s not meant to be impressive or intimidating or even gross, it’s just a home (not counting the basement). The other locations never gave me that intense feeling of personality that this house did. The next one is more specific to me, but it combined two things that freak me out more than most things. Dolls, and messed up babies, and I was prepared for the dolls, but not the BABY. I had never had such an intense reaction to a video game ever. The third one is the one I see the most complaints about, and that’s fine, everyone has their own opinion, but I’m going to explain why I like this so much. The lack of a boss fight. I know a boss fight with Donna and/or Angie would have been cool, but the direction the game went had a better impact in my opinion. As the player, you are expecting a boss fight, you are already set up to think that it’s going to be a boss fight due to the fight with Alcina, and the previous resident evil games. So the hide and seek portion is already unexpected, but the reveal that it was Donna and not Angie that you hunted down is what makes me love it more. After you stab “Angie” the first time you can spot fresh bloodstains on the wall, which can be used to find “Angie” in her next hiding spot. The implication that you are hunting down someone who is no less human than your child (or, uh, Ethan’s child) is kind of haunting when you think about it. It’s not like with Alcina or Salvator or Karl where they are in your face trying to kill you, you are actively hunting someone down, and you’re not even fully aware that you are doing it too. And yeah, Donna was probably trying to kill Ethan, but it was less malicious and more desperate…at least that’s how I saw it. One of the things that intrigued me about this area is the note left on the back of the photo you slid into the mail slot. If I remember correctly after you kill Donna you get the photo back, but it’s in better condition and it has writing on the back that wasn’t there before. I don’t remember specifics, but I’d recommend looking it up.
I wish there was more canonical lore for Donna, but it seems theories are what we must rely on most. One of my favorites about Donna is that Claudia was a sibling or cousin. And after her parents' passing, Donna used Claudia's bones to repair Angie as she wore down. I think it's a fun way of explaining Angie's mismatched appearance, and doesn't seem too far fetched for Donna's character.
12:13 I saw on someone else's video talking about the Beneviento residence that the messages was actually representing worse fears about his family being ripped apart or something going wrong with Rose when she is in the womb E.g. bursting out of Mia's belly
Donna deserved more love. When I saw the large portrait in the house, I felt captivated by her. I see her to be more beautiful than Lady D. Even with the cadou mutation
I agree with you there, while Lady D does look nice she has a more "handsome and regal" beauty to her, while Donna has a very "soft/caring and formal" beauty which I just find to be more aesthetically pleasing [really tryna figure out my wording here jfc-] But yea while Lady D is attractive I find Donna to be way more so
Completely agree. Amazing section. Other locations like the castle and factory were great aesthetically and were very fun to explore but adding a haunted house was just amazing. The baby monster is the only thing in resident evil that has ever made me pause the game and chill. I thought that RE8 really nailed it's characters. Benevento and Moreau could have definitely had more screen time but from what we got I really liked it. My thoughts on all the characters I guess: Without commenting on Dimitrescu's umm "assets", I really liked her grace (being so tall and wealthy) fitting into the vampire aesthetic perfectly. I really liked Heisenberg because let's face it he is a true chad. Moreau was surprisingly great. I expected him to just be a "oh yeah I am gross" monster without any further story but then he surprised me with his insecurities and desperation to be loved by Miranda. Of course, though Benevento is my favourite. I just want to give her a hug
The baby, that damm baby, that was one of the scariest resident evil experience I've had second only to the first zombie in the mansion at 8 or 9 years old in 2000 without knowing what the game was about...
This particular level was so disturbing, unsettling, and just horrifying to me--growing up with killer doll-themed movies really unlocked a fear I didn't know I had until I hit doll mansion lol.
I never liked or cared for Mia. Any woman who decides to keep secrets or not tell her husband what's really on her mind is no wife at all and not trustworthy. And look at the end of 8, only Rose went to his grave. Where was Mia at? First playthrough of 7 I gladly gave Zoe the cure. Obviously Capcom said that was the wrong choice, but so what!
That made me wonder as well why Rose wasn't with Mia at the end of RE Village. It makes me wonder if they took Custody of Rose some time after the game. I hope they explore this story point in the next Resident evil Game
Donna Benevento and her doll Angie are the creepiest duo in RE Village, both of them reminded me a lot of Lisa Trevor and how much they are alike, she hid her own face behind the many faces of other people and hid away from a lot of people under the Spencer Mansion, she also had a massive doll shrine as she must have loved dolls, Donna and Angie played a lot of dark mental tricks on Ethan's mind to hopefully kill him, the The Mia mannequin was used to show that even though they have a family now, she still has a lot of secrets she still hasn't told Ethan yet, like how she use to work for the connection's organization, also knowing that Ethan is a molded being and not telling him, the big mutant baby was Ethan though his daughter Rosemary turned into, a real horrible monster he had to run for his to get away from, finally had to face the doll Angie and her many doll comrades to get out of Donna's house, during his fight he did see Donna Benevento and she said "don't leave, I can't let you leave", finally he did manage to kill Angie but what he saw was that he killed Donna, he didn't understand what was happening until he found out what she could do, Donna can control Angie and her doll comrades due to her mutation across her face, she also can control plants by the secretion of pheromones from her body, she can also induce hallucinations on people who did inhale the pollen form the infected plants around her house, all the things Ethan did have to face in Donna's house were all a lot of hallucinations, to be honest Donna Benevento did a good job in fooling me, I did believe all those hallucinations we're real until I learned what she could really do, the story of Donna Benevento and her doll Angie is tragic and you did cover her very well HeY DeVuH, I do look forward to you choose cover next buddy ✌️
Thats funny cause I never even considered that it was real. I don’t remember if I thought hallucinations specifically but I knew there was an unreal factor when the rooms started changing seemingly out of thin air.
Something I haven't seen anyone mention since the release of the game is that the name Angie and Donna aren't just random and are a reference to Annabelle's story where Angie and Donna were roommates studying to become nurses (Donna was also meant to be the village doctor at first) and Donna had bought Annabelle as a gift for her daughter
Thats such a cool detail, i cant believe more people arent talking about this! Quick correction tho: Donna was actually gifted Annabelle by her mother. One of the key parts of the real story is how weird it is that a mother got her 20 something daughter a doll lmao
This part was relatively tame for me. Once I saw that all my items were gone, I knew that it wasn't going to be to difficult. Then I saw places to hide, so I knew something was going to chase me. The hall being a circle also made it more simple. I guess I prepared myself too much at that part
As a Silent Hill fan playing the Beneviento part was really exciting, it was the closest thing to a new Silent Hill game i played, the symbolism, the setting, the psychological horror, the sound desing... It was really beautiful to play.
If you look at the game, it hits horror in all the different avenues, but none nearly as terrifying as that estate. Psychologically scary between the darkness, the missing weapons, the lack of any real sound, and then that damned baby. I haven’t felt sheer terror in a game like this in a long time. I’ve replayed the game three times and each time I get to that point I just want to skip it because it makes me feel so uneasy doing it.
i love donna with ny whole heart. shes perfectly terrifying, not only bc of her house but also the fact that she seems objectively the most human, aside from heisenberg. she didn't need to turn into some giant monster to be terrifying. she just was.
Honestly this part of the game alone could have been a game of it's own or at least masterpiece of a big DLC. I've never played, but was always interested in many aspects of this game. The whole aestethic is so my taste. I really enjoyed this thorough breakdown of the Beneviento Story. It pulled so many emotions out of me, I can only imagine playing through it. So well done!
Spoilers! The baby was extremely scary. I don't often get frightened by games. This was one of those times. The darkness, creaking, and random movement and giggling also added to the overall creepiness. Definitely my favorite level by far.
I have the same opinion as you of Donna Beneviento's portion of the game. It's easily the best part of Res. E. Village in terms of horror. That, and also that Donna herself is my favorite character in the game.
I adore this game and even tho I've never played it, I was content with just sitting beside my daughter and son in law when they would play it. I'm just a mom who loves the horror genre and search & seek type of games? I watched RE 7&8 like movies. They are so beautifully created, and lifelike. I admit that I felt sorry for Donna and the little deformed fish dude.
I tend to view Donna as an emotionally broken woman, and I can't help but wonder what would happen if things were different. There was also a rumor saying that Donna wrote the note that said "Save our little Rose," after recovering the photo. Like Alcina Dimitrescu, I tend to wonder what would have happened if Donna Beneviento and Ethan Winters became allies, or even friends. Yes, I know, Ethan Winters had to destroy the Lords, and they were already too far gone in the prime timeline, but I think Ethan would have given Donna Beneviento a second chance at healing.
I would also like to point out that her name could also draw from the plant Belladonna which has a rich symbolism towards the balance good and evil. It's a sedative but can also be a symbol of death.
I started playing because of Lady D but Donna's part got me more into the game, her part was just really amazing and scary that I started researching about her backstory and the symbolism around the house. Her part was the shortest but the most memorable (for me). It felt so short and I felt like there should be more.
It makes no sense to me when Capcom were onto such a good thing with this section of the game that they kept it so short. It was so different to anything they’d ever done before in RE so was ambitious sure, but they could have done so much mode with the house, Donna, Angie and the baby. At this stage I’ve kinda given up on a DLC as it’s been so long but I really hope they’ve noted all the feedback around Donna’s house and in their next instalment we will see a hell of a lot more psychological horror.
"Bye bye" was shocking & scary. Maybe think to why scissors. To cut his way though. To cut a path though. Certain dolls are made up of paper. Using scissors is quite fitting to.
I swore I read somewhere that in the original Japanese version, it wasn't a facial scar that had her isolating from others, but it was the result of her sister's death and the suicide of her parents following that death. I'm not sure of the legitimacy, but it makes more story sense than just a scar.
I thought of the well as a sort of womb, which would explain the cries also. A rebirth into the supernatural from a relatively safe place, a water-based place. Water is supposed to be cleansing, too. But you're pushed into this scary, strange world. That was my thought! :)
@@HeYDeVuH I had basically ONE literature class that made me think critically about hidden meanings and such, and of course it was a Spanish Literature class that has lots of magical realism and butt tons of symbolism. Our creative thinking was nurtured in that class- was there a flash of green in the story? Write an essay about aliens. As long as you had a hint of proof (green) the teacher was like "woh holy ship i never thought of this before". I miss that class T_T
The baby was the reason I never did a replay of the campaign. The whole level tripped me out, I went in there wondering how infected combat would be and did not expect a pacifist level.
As a HUGE fanatic of dolls and anything related to them in the horror genre (I actually own an Annabelle doll), this was my favorite part of the whole game, and it’s a tragedy that it felt so short in comparison. Everything about it read horror in its purest form; from the atmosphere, the setting, that walking abortion baby, and yes, the damn dolls! The claustrophobia didn’t phase me so much, but I damn well appreciate making everything so narrow when it came to encountering the fetus, because holy hell did that make it all the more terrifying. More lore and time should’ve been given to this.
Yes definitely this was the peak Horror portion of RE Village and to use Dolls, the Giant Baby Monsters, and the overall Aesthetic around House Beneviento was just amazing.
The spirit of Mia saying "Everyone leaves me,I don't wanna be alone" Is so good because of how Donna wants you to stay with her because of her family :(
In my headcanon Claudia and Donna were twin sisters and thats why she cherishes Claudia's grave even more than those of her parents. Twins have a very deep connection after all Maybe Claudia died in an accident and it was exactly that accident that also scarred Donna's face?
@@HeYDeVuH i actually wrote a fanfic based on donna with that headcanon Only need to finish betareading and then i can start uploading I really love donna :)
I appreciate you doing this and taking the time. I wanted to know more when I completed this section. In my opinion, this 'was' the best portion. I could see where the award came from when all the dolls become animated and you hear the song. I thought to myself, this would make a perfect Halloween experience. The Castle was good, but too much repetition. This offered something new and different, something cool fun and utterly terrifying. I am no stranger to disturbing things, I like films that test me. I can tell you, while I was trying to get away from the baby monster I was almost crying. I knew what was coming when I got to that part, but the thing lumbering after me with a child's voice----absolute horror.
Even more symbolic, the entrails left after Mia's fake body is removed is most likely meant to be an umbilical cord , which is the physical connection between mother and child during the pregnancy. I think this even further connects the baby monster with being a projection of what Ethan might see Rose as, perhaps even drawing as far as to 'Mia's secrets were fueled into the child'. I loved how this part of the game was such a big change of pace after the action and rush of Demitrescu and I feel like a lot of the horror of this part kinda... Came on a delay? Sure, it was creepy as all heck, but I felt getting the lore for Lady D explained how her daughters were made and such, interesting, but not super scary, but the lore for Donna added to the heaviness of her story, made it even more disturbing and even had you feel sorry for her. Part of me will always be conflicted about her being killed, on one hand hoping it would bring her peace, on the other hand feeling she deserved to just be left alone and not to be bothered.
When I played through Village for the first time, I only knew of the baby monster, but I refused to watch any gameplay because I didn't want spoilers. But when I first got to the section, my siblings were watchingmy and we were in the dark while I was playing. I ran into it and them immediately ran away panicking while screaming fetus monster. My siblings thought my reaction was hilarious.
I’m excited for Heisenberg’s video. I never found him scary, just sad. Everyone else had some motive for power for themselves, and Heisenberg just wanted to get back at Miranda. His storyline made me empathize with him, whereas I rooted for the other villains just because they were good villains
By the time I got back to the house and met Donna, I was so done with her shit I finished the entire last section in determined silence, not properly breathing again until i was out in the garden. This level roasted me.
I was the friend in the friend group who could always say with confidence after playing both, silent Hill and resident evil with friends, silent Hill was a country mile scarier and was generally agreed with. So I was delighted when this woman in Victorian mourning wear struck me out if left field and made me need a smoke. She's one if the few characters that the more I learn about, freaks me out more. The enemies in 7 were just too much coming from an abusive family. Where the enemies here where more my speed. I'm truly glad to see resident evil return to form rather than it's own company pull a 'I won't have those knees in my stable' on it. Like Konami did to silent hill. And as someone who loves the unexplainable in games, I'm glad her abilities weren't chalked up to, ghosts n shit. She's very unsettling. I thought the doll, would be the enemy, didn't even see her, then she picked up the doll, realized what she was wearing and knew I was in for a ride. I love the death etiquette of that time, particularly the dress. The death being so close to her, her being raised with that time, that's why she's still in mourning wear basically. Some of those women were mourning for years, even the rest of their lives. Social etiquette demanded they mourn. Their manner of death mattered A LOT. You are right on her fashion of dress. Knowing she's talking through the doll now, and she called Moreau ugly, that's fuckin savage😭
18:36 i was watching marks playthrough when this happened for some reason it genuinely broke my heart when we find we've killed Donna instead. She seemed very nice to me
I honestly do not know if during your research on the inspirations behind Res:Village, you found that Beneviento is actually derived from the Italian mountain city of Benevento. It was formerly known as "Maleventum" (named by the Romans, after they lost an important battle) which translates to "Bad Omen". Benevento is well known for the eerie story that lies behind it: witch trials (There's even a river there called Sabbath). The city itself had a huge background of paganism, being ruled by the Longobards and after them, the Normans. Maybe the inspiration of the "House Beneviento" crest comes from that, a mixture of old pagan and natural symbols.
something I find curious is when you open the grave, the skeleton is curled up. Normally when someone's laid to rest, they're lain flat on their back with their hands resting on their stomach or by their side. But the corpse in the grave is just in a fetal position. I wonder if that's Capcom trying to symbolize something, indicates how they died, or if it's just an oversight.
I can't remember the civilization but it was one that used funerary masks. They buried them in various positions, fetal included. Surrounded by siblings and relatives.
HeY DeVuH you're really one of those extremely underrated Resident Evil fans with fantastic indepth RU-vid content that many people aren't familiar with because you're not yet very "famous" but people like me who follow your channel are greatly appreciate for your high quality work that really covers Resident Evil lore extensively. Great job my man, keep up and your channel success is guaranteed!
That means a lot, thank you. It takes me so long to make these videos, I wish I could edit faster so everyone could enjoy more content. But also I really like things to be perfect because I don't want to just put random clips here and there. Anyway your kind words really does help and I'll take that as great motivation for future videos. Again Thank you and your kindness is appreciated
Anyone else remember back before Re Village came out, hearing rumours of a boss featured in Re 8, dubbed the spider queen? Supposed to be a relative of Marguerite. Got really hyped to fight her but this turned out not to be (obviously.) Still may see it in a dlc or Resi 9.
@@reviewiaid6432More of a stage in a boss fight, but yeah.I remembered that after.Didn't live up to speculation regardless though .It annoyed me that the only link to resi 7 (boss wise) in resi 8 was Evelyn.
Donna- Belladonna (deadly nightshade) im thinking these are the reasons why she has the name Donna. Since theres a lot of symbolism in this game- and these snippets of info i found on google about the plant really just reaffirm my ideas about her name. "Deadly nightshade was said to be the property of the Devil, meaning that anyone who eats the berries is punished for eating his fruit. In art and poetry, it represents danger and betrayal." "Although the berries might be the most tempting part of Deadly nightshade, all parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested. It causes a range of symptoms including blurred vision, a rash, headaches, slurred speech, hallucinations, convulsions and eventually death."
the first time I saw the portrait of Donna and Angie, all I could think of was "wow Donna's so beautiful!" and it stuck with me so much that I got it printed out and is now a small poster in my room 😂
19:00 I'm French, I've played the game twice, I know this child song very well, and I've never noticed the theme that plays during this 'battle' was Promenons-nous dans les bois, until you mentioned it in your video. I'll pay more attention to this in my next playthrough, thanks.
Have an awesome time on your next playthrough and yes It's amazing that they implemented this in the Battle Theme, though it was very unsettling to hear as well
