When i was studying in London back in the day this happened quite often: I was talking to some beautiful British girl in the pub/club, having a great time, and at some point she noticed my accent and asked where i was from. The moment i said "Germany", she would turn around and walk away without saying a word. ?!!? True story. I wish i could say that this happened only once 😂
Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. They changed it to a less Germanic name in 1917, in response to WWI. (Did you know that one of the new names they considered was Fitzroy? Doesn't have the same ring, does it?)
In those circles, they all have accurate family trees going back to like a thousand years or more so it's not really "believed to be". It's known to be that way.
@@Blaqjaqshellaq I couldn't remember the whole last name just the Gotha part. Yeah, I know lol about Fitzroy, it definitely does not have the same ring to it.
@@larsulrich2761 at least get your facts right. That flag and the country - the name - India was established after 1947. before that it was pretty much a different region. Your comment makes no sense .
@@Bani_Maini The term 'India' and the culture dates long back, dude. It is the flag and the modern nation as a political entity that began in 1947. The same case applies to many other countries as well with just difference in details. For example, Modern German nation began in 19th century with Otto Bismarck but German history and culture dates further back than that.
As a Brit, I have to say I love Germany and it’s people, food, beer and culture. I’m also jealous of the efficiency and engineering of the place. Ich liebe Deutschland!
*Its people, dear native English speaker person. And their efficiency and engineereing are for a very long time already built with the hands of immigrant labor from the east, and when they are left to their own measures they almost always manage to screw everything up.
LOL ROTF .. really hmm okay a few things .. English and Germans are first cousins. Anglo Saxon... English language came from German with Dutch as a mid way go between. The English royal family came from Germany originally. They're very similar deep down.
People used to say that at the end of the 1800 centuries, because at the royal family, but not after WW1. You wrote too many history shorcuts - In fact, English language is now closer to Latin and French, which makes up most of its vocabulary - English people have more % of DNA similiar with Belgian, Northern French and Dutch, than German ... Cousins ? No - Fellow european ? Yes.
To say English came from Dutch, which came from German is like saying the Human came from the modern Chimpanzee, which came from the modern Gorillas, Orangutangus and Gibbons. Languages differentiate themselves and evolve together over time, similar to living species.
@@guilhermedantas5067 The early English were Anglo-Saxons. Dutch until 1600 was a German dialect, not a separate language. 1066 Battle of Hastings, William the Conquerer (Carpet of Bayeux) - Normannic, French became the leading language of the nobles. Later on, the languages mixed, so English is: North German dialects, French, Latin.
I'm from the UK and I have a German friend from Frankfurt. He's a nice lad. There was also this one time my mother had German students stay at our house for bed and breakfast for a couple of weeks. Very nice people, they brought us back beer for good hospitality.
You are actually German. Thats why. But a German trapped on a Island. Thats why. If im correct, Britain colonized Germany in WW1 & 2 :-D They loved the Germans so much they moved in. As if the Brits miss their old original homelands. Haha.
@@germaniatv1870 I mean, I'm a mixture of lots of different backgrounds. Britain and Europe is very mongrel. We've all been conquered and invaded time and time again!

Yet, central Europeans (France,Belgium,Netherlands,England,Ireland,Germany,Austria & Swiss) are dominantly Celtic-Germanic. Indeed there have been invasions, settlements ect but to erase a "ethnicity" you would have to murder the men and mix with ALL the women and that was simply not the case (but i admit also that there is something in recent history which could be compared to such a scenario). Yes, Germany becomes multi-cultural, within 40-60 years, something that took US America 400 years. - But to claim that Germany was always "Multicultural" like for example the USA is simply "propaganda". The whole white west is "German". French & Brits are "German". - Call me , the Germano-Gypsy ,a "Mongrel" one more time... are you a communist? :-D haha jus'playi'n.
You want to talk about holding a grudge? I worked with a good old boy from Virginia. Nice guy with a noticeable southern accent. He was working in Kansas one time and after work he went into a bar to get a beer. The bartender heard his accent and not only refused him service, but also threw him out of the place.
I'm German and I've lived in the UK for ove 10 years and in some respect there really is a weird relationship. But not from person to person. Not a single person I've met in the UK (no matter their age, one of my best friends is in his late 80s now) holds a grudge against Germans or Germany, they often admire Germany. But in certain media (the tabloid media) still occasionally foster that Germany-is-the-enemy image. But that's it, British people are genuinely the most lovable and loving people with the best sense of humour in the world! And as far as said papers go... I don't care if my toilet paper likes me or not, it's going down the drain.
@@Anglo_Browza I have a lot of respect for both the French and the Polish and I don't think there's more than a handful Germans, let alone Brits, who respected anything about what the Nazis did. The way I see it is that all us European countries are like siblings who fight and argue between each other but deep down we all like each other.

I'm English and I love the Germans. Berlin is my sanctuary and I have been many times. The history, food, drink, and idiosyncracies are good medicine for me.
That India hitting was the best part (well, I am an Indian)! and I didn't get it initially but I understood now- USA was the 1st to get liberated and then WWs and UK liberated all!

@@Carnabyzoo lol is that what they teach you? 🤣😂 Look up Mountbatten's hilarious exit when the INA marched through Burma and made it to India when he had 8 months left of his office tenure. The Indian National army formed by the legendary Netaji Subhash Bose in Singapore crushed the Britishers.

During a vacation in turkey, we were attacked by a british guy in a night club, after celebrating the german victory at the word cup with a bunch of Norwegian girls we met there. We hadn't even exchanged a single word with the guy and he started swinging at us lol. That was was so random, it became the highlight of our vacation
I think it goes both ways. Okay I'm older, but many years ago I was talking to a German guy in a pub and I said that we used to holiday in Germany. The conversation was going fine until I said that my father had learnt German from prisoners of war he worked with in WW2. Then he just walked off, I thought i was talking about reconciliation, he did not see it that way?
Older generations are different. Same in the Netherlands, where elder are often openly hostile against Germans, despite the Dutch are generally very friendly. I am bit younger (not young) and after skiing in Austria we would drink beer and sing together or so.
I live in Canada, it seems based on your basket, pattern of picking and placing of nations in the basket that Canada was picked up first as it is at the very end of the basket
I'm a fan of your work man, I love your weird (in an awesome way) sense of humor. But this video reminded me of something sad. Unfortunately the problem of categorizing people by their nationality is real. When you hate a total stranger without knowing anything about them. Not their beliefs, not their mindset, not their past, not their action, just their nationality. It exists everywhere. Including Germany itself. When some people (to be fair not all) judge you and hate you because you're middle eastern and see themselves above you. It's always surprising to me, when victims of a crime, doing the same crime to others!
@@Hussein_IRAK I'm not sure if I could translate what you're saying correctly, but you are thinking exactly as those people. Nationalism can bring racism!
I know somebody who blames the Queen for the loss of empire as if she personally agreed to those countries all leaving the Commonwealth or asked them to. Several of them became republics. She probably sat back and let her Prime Ministers do that. Anyway this will be the last Queen for years as Prince Charles is next and he has only two sons and his eldest son's first child is also male. Had Princess Charlotte been born before Prince George she would be in line to the throne over him as the rules have changed to pass on the crown to the eldest child not the eldest son. Well there were other factors such as winning two world wars and being out of pocket as a result so having to let go of a few colonies and then joining the EEC in 1973. Thank you Edward Heath. Then once Thatcher was in power starting a few more wars which Major, Blair and Cameron continued.

When I was in London the british people were so friendly and helpful and I think they like Germany and also Germans like England. Germany and Britain share a history of suppressing the uprising of the colonies in America then assisted by France. A history only by the 2world wars clouded up. Hence a lot of the early settlers in America have in some way have both British and German ancestry.

As a Scottish/British person I can tell you I like Germany. Germany didn’t break up the British empire as the montage appears to suggest. It became inevitable after Queen Victoria (A German) died. I view the Germans and the English to be pretty similar in many regards, both somewhat arrogant and pompous. There is definitely a rivalry but not hated.
The collapse of the British empire didn't seriously begin until after World War II, so I think what the video is suggesting is that the economic toll of the war helped bring the empire down. Otherwise, I can't think of any other way that it make sense to say Germany brought down the British Empire.
Actually it did, we had run out of money beating Hitler. It's why we let the Raj go, it was too expensive and with that the rest started falling too in order to cut costs.
Not my case. I had 2 English boy friends that kept telling me how much better German women were, and that my Italian accent was ridiculous and that Germans have very little and nice accent while speaking English. Perhaps some English men are competitive with German men and they like to 'conquer' German women. Something like being a supporter of a football team, manly stuff.
