After making this video it occurred to me how lucky the bulls where to assemble the 2011 team, luol deng for cash? Lamarcus Aldridge and joakim noah for eddy curry? That team was not a product of a good front office, it was a product of 2 really bad front offices, the knicks and the suns. Also getting the first pick for derrick rose was completely lucky as the bulls wherent projected to get the 1st pick. my twitter-twitter.com/RustyBUCKETS321 what if playlist-ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Do7I1aRc3Ok.html check out my latest what if, "what if the cavs didn't trade wiggins" link-ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uTt06BaftQc.html
I have one like this about the Minnesota timberwolves and I have 4 what ifs, 3 of them are watchable. wouldn't recommend the lakers one heres the what if playlist ru-vid.com/group/PLLNV2let-mr8urPzpIM5rHKecNasQFYbl
I don't know man, maybe you should be a little bit more realistic with these draft picks. I understand that the bulls made a flurry of bad decisions in the early 2000s but why can't this video be more focused on undoing these mistakes rather than picking the best possible player from the remainder of the draft. Hindsight is 20/20, and you could do this with the draft picks of almost any team. Not every pick should be a hit.
Abhimanyu Patil well try looking up the drafts mentioned in the video, rashard lewis was only 2 picks past the bulls pick, gilbert arenas was only 1 pick behind where the bulls took a sg, but if they would have drafted jason richardson a sg, and a way better player than eddy curry. They would've needed to draft a point instead of a shooting guard. Therefore the bulls making one right decision leads to another one. I wont say this is entirely realistic, no team ever drafts perfectly 7 years in a row. But if it was to get really unrealistic, there where some drafts where i didnt take the best available player, for exampoe i took Nene, when amari stoudemire and caron butler where available. I made changes but all the changes wherent unrealistic
I agree with changing the trades 100%, but literally, every single pick that could have gone right in this scenario does. For the most part, I agree with this but did you really need to add Mo Williams. That was one of the most unrealistic things I have ever seen. I will say though, like your passion when making these videos, you don't just say things, you give them a tone to where it shows that you care.
@@rustybuckets but that's the thing.. You can't have it both ways. You look back and see how amazing of a career GA had and how good Lewis was and say they were 👌🏾 close away from where the Bulls actually picked. If teams knew then like you know now how good Gilbert and Lewis would have been.... No way they last that long in the draft.
Nice...great job, man...I wish it happened...cuz I was just wondering how it would be like if the bulls got lamarcus Aldridge, Kobe, and Gilbert arenas...n the rest of that offensive weapons from the bench..man that's what we called a championship caliber team... thank u once again...GO BULLS
It's more then just GarPax it's Reinsdorf being cheaper then payless shoes.90's Bulls had the same issue with there GM's who refused to keep the team intact after 98 after we just 3 peated again. Told Phil Jackson that Reinsdorf will not pay to keep that dynasty. \We do not deserve this management team in Chicago. I miss Jimmy Butler already
Marques Terry that's 100% true BUT ALSO you got to include their ages and their performance in the playoffs Scottie and Rodman were nowhere near as good as they had been. Injuries got to Scottie
Earl Young well players like rashard lewis and David west when reduced to a bench role wouldn't be perceived as nearly as valuable, therefore they don't get payed the same as what they do in real life
No, Kobe wanted to play with talent. the only reason Kobe mentioned deng by name was because he was the only real talent on the team. in this scenario. the bulls have WAY more talent. after the trade the bulls still have lamarcus Aldridge and Gilbert arenas. more than enough talent to convince Kobe to wave his no trade clause
Rusty Buckets Yeah but if Kobe was okay with playing with guys like Arenas and Aldridge, don't you think he'd put the Wizards and Trailblazers on his list in 2007 for teams he wanted to play with? I think he just liked how Luol played, and that's what made him interested in being on the Bulls.
kobe was interested in being a bull because he wanted to play where Jordan did. not because of deng. he only refused the trade because he wanted dengs talent on the team.
Rusty Buckets Yeah, and what I'm saying is that he probably wouldn't want to play with a ball dominant "points guard" in Gilbert Arenas or a power forward like LaMarcus Aldridge, who also likes to have the ball in his hands
Rusty Buckets I get that the legacy of Jordan could've drawn his interest in wanting to play for them, but why do you think Kobe never opened up to the idea of playing for teams like the Wizards and Trailblazers. Yes, they could have traded Kobe to Portland for Aldridge and Roy in 2007, but then who's left. Wizards could've done the same thing with Arenas, but they wouldn't get much better. Deng was a solid player who didnt have to take all the shots, but could still score at a good rate, rebounded well, and was also a great defender
I actually gotta thank you for that idea, took a long ass time to make it tho, so maybe I don't lol. but yeah, doing what ifs take a lot more time because not only would I have to focus on the bulls, but also a few other teams, this way I can focus on just the bulls and get it done with a lot less effort
its not so much hard as it is time consuming. being a good writer all my life has helped a lot, but really I just look up transactions and draft selections and think about how they would change as the scenario of my choosing progresses. getting the clips in 2k with the proper rosters and editing it all together takes a lot of time.
I did a what if Shaq stayed with Orlando in the 1996 offseason scenario, and the Bulls turned out basically just as they do in this video, except the Bulls would trade for Shareef Abdur-Rahim rather than getting Rashard Lewis
Kobe wouldn't waive his no trade clause for that either. An allstar forward, two solid starters, and a great player in Deng? Kobe already said one of the main reasons he didn't accept the trade was because he wanted to play WITH Deng
he wanted deng out of the deal because the bulls where trading ALL of their talent. in this case deng is a bench small forward. but the bulls have Gilbert arenas, Ron artest, lamarcus Aldridge and a rookie joakim Noah with a decent bench, in comparison in real life all the bulls would have had after the Kobe trade would have been kirk heinrick.
There's a huge amount of what ifs and variables that need to happen for this to ever had happened. Pretty interesting though. The one thing that bothers me is that salary cap. Lol, how?!
players not getting the same opportunities like Aldridge with other great players around them equals them getting less money, less touches = lower stats which = less money
Hero Miles everyone besides for kobe where drafted by the team. And most of the players, crawford, artest, west, lewis, deng, and richardson. Wouldnt reach the same heights because they would get alot less touches than they did on the teams that drafted them, therefore they don't cost nearly as much as they did irl
You don't know the Malice in the palace wouldn't have happened. Artest was nuts back then. It would have happened he was drinking BOOZE in the locker room Rusty. Love the channel. :)
In the 90's The Bulls were arguably the biggest sports franchise on the planet. I was a kid in the UK and knew nothing of Basketball except that Michael Jordan was the best player and The Bulls were the best team and that's how everyone felt. I still don't understand how they fell off their perch so spectacularly.
I like this video but for real this is applicable for any team! You could've said the pacers could've drafted Ginobili or Isaiah Thomas or Draymond Green. But that's the point how often does that happen? Some of these make sense, like the lamarcus Aldridge and Elton brand part, i understand that. But like I said this applicable to any team
yeah I'm aware. Ive gotten a few comments like this and its completely true, but even if the bulls made half of these moves they would still have been contenders. when I do a video like this in the future I will focus more on changing earlier picks and not later ones as those are less likely to work out in the future so it is hard to predict.
The thing is, you dont know how drafted players are gonna turn out. Sadly, look at D Rose. So you can draft the best options cause you already know how they performed. And even if you get the best options doesnt mean that they will work out. Look at lebron and kyrie, it seemed like they were holding eachother back a bit and two monsters sometimes cant be together in the same team unless they have golden state's chemistry. Its fun to see what ifs though. Nice video.
I mean it’s easy to say these things but back then no one knew Gilbert was going to end up being the player he was , people had an “IDEA” of what Jamal could be , but all these other picks no one knew they were gonna be what they were, and you forget a lot of things that has happened to these players happened because of 2 effects , CONFERENCE AND TEAM..
im a die hard chicago fan...and that sounds great and all but only if that was true...and to think we would not have gotten jimmy butler at all if this happened i guess
You can’t just say that the Bulls should have drafted this one player when you already what they can do in the league. Like nobody knew that J.R was doing to be a scorer like that later in his career. Anyone could say that the team should have drafted the better player than the one that got chosen.
It's kind of being a GM with a time machine.. and you still take years to build a championship team. The truth is, there is no way to predict that Arenas or Lewis would turn into all-stars and all those other moves. The truth is, a good GM wouldn't do some of the bone-headed moves like trading Brand and would do a lot more in FA market. Once you get one or two gifted young players and have a star, it's a lot easier to attract other talent. So, you might even end up with a shorter run to a championship.
markv1 our front office is stupid The way they traded Elton brand and jamal crawford, then lamarcus Aldridge and now the most recent boneheaded move... trading Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott (a player they gave up two draft picks the year before for) for Anthony Morrow, joffrey lauvergne(idk how to spell his name) and the centerpiece of that deal camero payne(a player that the bulls now say they realized he wasn't an nba talent by the 2nd practice) so stupid
If they were smart in trading and drafting, they be so good. They traded jimmy butler when they where in the rebuilding process. Although trading him wasnt a bad idea
keeping a star of that level in a rebuild results in mediocrity for years. need to be bad enough to get top 3 picks, butler on the bulls meant like the 14-16th picks
The only player I’ll be against is arenas yes he was a great scorer better than Gordon but I remember the kobe trade didnt happen because he wanted to play with deng
as I have said in the comments a thousand times, Kobe wanted to play with talent, not deng specifically. as long as the bulls had talent when he was being traded, he would take it. arenas, and Aldridge is more talent than just deng. he originally said he wanted to play with loul deng because he was the only really good player on the team
The only thing I disagree with is the lack of the Malice at the palace. The Pistons hate the bulls as much as they hate the pacers it would've happened artest would've been wearing a different uniform
The bulls traded Chris Mihm for Jamal Crawford. Fizer played most of his nba career with the Bulls. The bulls actually wanted Darius Miles and thought the clippers really wanted Fizer so the bulls messed up that pick for another reason.
Ryan Mackenzie did u watch the video fam, kobe didnt want deng included bc with him gone the bulls would be void of talent, but now, with deng included the bulls still have a rookie joakim noah, a 2nd year lamarcus aldridge, gilbert arenas an all star pg and ron artest who at that point was better than deng. No way kobe vetos the trade that sends him into that situation
thats exactly what people said about Lebron and wade. 2 great players make it work, plus both Kobe and arenas where great shooters so they are very capable of playing off of each other
So Kobe (who btw HATED being compared to MJ) joins the team in which Jordan earned 10 scoring titles, and led them to 6 championships and 6 finals MVP's for himself. Yeah I mean I don't see why not.
would kobe break down in 2013 and what if they pick amare in 2002. I think the exact same picks would happen and trading David west or Noah instead of Nene the same trade may go through
Kobe wanted to play with talent. wasn't about deng it was about the fact that without deng the roster would be talentless. in this case the bulls without deng who was comming off the bench, would still have gibert arenas, Ron artest, a great bench, a rookie joakim Noah and lamarcus Aldridge. more than enough to convince Kobe to waive his no trade clause
Oh dear...so many variables and so many highly speculative developments in this video...and I'm only halfway through. Besides, it's always easy to point out mistakes made by a front office in hindsight given that you know how certain players have developed over the years. Sure, there are obvious mishaps like trading away Brand (which as a Bulls fan still breaks my heart) but other trade or lottery pick choices in my eyes weren't that wrong in that respective moment.
"What if" GarPax were actually running the franchise from 1999-present instead of from 2009-present? I noticed Jerry Krause wasn't mentioned in this video, who ran the team from 1985-2003.
Fredric McReynolds thank you. This Man Has HIA Facts Twisted. I recall Marcus fizer and jamal Crawford playing on the Bulls together. I could be wrong. I will go fact check this shit
They did. Chris Mihm was traded to CLE for Jamal Crawford. I think the original thought about drafting a PF Fizer and C Mihm was to force Portland to trade Jermaine O'Neal to the bulls for their rights or as pick pre draft but Portland traded with IND instead.
I'm cool with the idea of this video but it doesn't take into account any of these players potentially leaving the Bulls by simple free agency. It's basically assumed that everyone wants to stay playing for the Bulls and don't want more money or a starting spot somewhere else
didn't forget anything. the bulls win a championship. no before rose is even drafted. no way they are ever bad enough to get the 1st pick and draft him
Rusty Buckets It's all good. It would probably turn out this way. I do have to ask you: do you think the Bulls would have won in 1994 if the call between Pippen and Hubert Davis in the Knicks series had been called the other way or hadn't happened?
Rusty Buckets Heh. Well, I was born in 1997, but I still speculate on things like this all the time. Personally, the Bulls had more playoff experience than Indiana or Houston did up to that point. Obviously, that season had Pippen as a possible MVP candidate considering what he did, leading the team in averages in almost everything. The team didn't have Michael, but Kukoc, Kerr, Wennington, and others did their best to replace him. Plus, they still had Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, and B.J. Armstrong. Everyone fails to mention that they won 55 games that year, which is impressive considering what they lost when Jordan retired. If the call doesn't happen incorrectly, the Bulls win in 1994. Granted, the Rockets beat Chicago most of the time in the regular season. Remember, though, that there are some teams that are built for the regular season and some are built for the playoffs. Houston, up to that point, was a regular season team, and Chicago knew how to handle playoff situations. That's my opinion. I also think Scottie's underrated. Extremely underrated. He's not Robin; he's Batman. Michael is Superman. Neither is truly better than the other, and both have noticeable weaknesses. Mike was a better individual player, but Scottie was a better teammate. If you haven't watched the video "Mr. All-Around Scottie Pippen", do so. Mike acknowledges that no one would know how good Scottie was until long after they were both retired. Defense is underrated. Offense is looked at more fondly. Scottie and Michael truly were "The World's Finest." They always will be the greatest one-two punch of all time. Personally, I believe that the Warriors we see now are not better than the 1995-96 Bulls. The Bulls had more defensive players, more experience, better coaching, and a better strategy than the Warriors do now. Pound the ball, and don't just shoot threes when you get the chance. Three is more than two until true team defense comes into the equation. That's what the Bulls had: the best team defense that we have ever seen. They had the best player in the league that also scored extraordinarily well, as well as two guys who rebounded and played defense extraordinarily well, with one them scoring almost at will off of bank shots, quick drives to the hoop, or pull-up threes when the defense wasn't watching. When everyone compares these teams, I don't think they feel the impact that those three guys had on a Chicago team that was the hungriest that I've seen. 73 wins don't mean squat if you don't win the title. Getting the 2nd best player in the league takes away depth. They have McGee and Pachulia. Rodman could easily guard either of them. MJ could guard Curry or Thompson. Pippen could guard Durant. Harper would not allow Thompson to get open if he didn't want to be humiliated. The Bulls always found the threat on offense and snuffed it. Draymond Green is good, but not better than the original. If the Warriors lose him in the 2018 offseason, though, they're toast. The Warriors may perhaps win this season, but the salary cap exists for a reason. Thompson may very well leave the Warriors.
actually u can, because a lot of these players will have massively lessened roles with the other players on the team, arenas and Kobe as well as lamarcus would probably be the only players to become worthy of max, Noah was never max worthy, and Crawford and Davis are on the bench so they are just considered good role players
Lakers were smart not trading Kobe. And they ended up winning 2 titles in 3 finals appearances after that. Kobe should never be GM. If he traded himself he probably would have only 3 rings as he retired. Dummy.
Dude they've made the playoffs multiple times and the eastern conference finals they're not a complete failure since mj left they're just not that good now so it skews your judgement but they were a title contender for several years with rose , yes I know you said something about it but the way you said it was like it wasn't a big deal and didn't matter..
at the end of the day if u don't win a championship. it isn't a big deal. making the playoffs or the conference finals are not accomplishments to players and to fans. championships are
TBH garpax did make a lot of bad moves but they did a good job building up the Bulls from 07-11. If Rose, Noah, Jimmy Butler and Loul Deng weren't so injury prone they would have won Chips with Thibs coaching. They never all played together at their best which is sad.
