In this video:
During the period when the Earth is furthest from the sun (aphelion), the average temperature of the entire planet is about 4°F (2.3°C) higher than when it is closest to the sun (perihelion). On average, the intensity of sunlight falling on Earth during aphelion is about 7% less than during perihelion. Despite this, the Earth ends up being warmer during the period in which it is furthest away from the sun.

Interesting video but can be confusing unless you understand this fact: at aphelion the earth is tilted such that the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun...each and every time that aphelion occurs. This tilt of the northern hemisphere towards the sun causes summer to occur. The larger amount of land in the northern hemisphere heats up quickly; at the same time the large amount of water in the southern hemisphere (which was just heated up during their summer at perihelion) is cooling down slower (retaining more heat). The hotter land masses in the northern hemisphere, plus the warmer water in the summer hemisphere, gives the earth an overall higher temperature at aphelion. Sort of a repeat but I hope it makes it a bit clearer.

I find that strange. I thought that according to Simon, the north tilts away at aphelion.

Thank you, that is a more thorough explanation. Does this mean that Earth tilt has a much greater effect on average Earth temperature than its' distance to the Sun? Somebody call Mercury and give them the good News!! (joke)
@IHateUniqueUsernames
@IHateUniqueUsernames 6 лет назад
+Eugene Wong You are correct. I believe +Glenn Krieger got the term confused. +MyworstEnemy Yes. Exactly that. What matters more is how much heat Earth can retain over the period of time, than the amount of heat the Sun actually radiates that actually reaches Earth. The tilt plays a role by exposing the majority of the land/water-mass of the planet, thus playing the bigger role in allowing the trapping of heat.

At aphelion it's summer in northern hemisphere, north has warmer summers because land actually absorbs light better than water

The best way to understand this is that the days are longer in the summer so the surface is being heated for a longer time, more than half of the 24 hour cycle. This has a more significant effect than the orbits eccentricity.

I belive the reason for it will be the fact that when nearer Sun the earth's magnétic shield is stronger duee to próximity to the Sun, acting in repeling as to atracting.

Not exactly, the axial tilt is indeed why we get the seasons, why some parts see changes in temperature winter to summer. In the video they are talking about the change in temperature caused by a different reason. We have two systems operating at the same time. The warming effects of sea water can also be seen in the different temperatures of the Arctic and Antarctic. The Artic is sea ice whereas the Antarctic is a land mass.

so because of all the water in the southern hemisphere, being closer to the sun (about 3 million miles closer) doesn't have much of a temperature difference when comparing the same seasons of both hemispheres?..?

Mickael Mc - hope you realize that solar heat can not be transmitted in a vacuumed space. Our good earth was created flat and enclosed with a celestial Dome with waters above. Our sun is approximately 3200 to 3400 miles high inside this dome and the heat is transmitted through our atmospheric medium from an electrically generated sun (solar lamp). Look at the sky and you will also see this above ocean of blue .
@MK-ex4pb

J Roger Trudel heat, which is infrared energy absolutely can travel thru a vacuum. And the sun isn't electrical. I've looked at the sky and i don't see any water unless it's raining

Sorry, but here you are describing the theoretical helocentric model which has now been proven not to exist. All of the new true scientific information is now presenting our earth as being flat in the geocentric model. A good percentage of the world's population is seriously looking at this geocentric model and upon some research you will need to reconsider this presentation
