I’ve experienced what you say about people not understanding what I’m envisioning, and some even become dismissive when this goal is in progress. I don’t let them bring me down, because a lot of my otherwise “impossible stuff” I wanted to create in the past, today are part of what I’ve done and accomplished. I’ve made my peace with the fact some people will either simply be haters, hence not worth time and effort. I’ll reach my goal regardless if they are tagging along or not.

I love that point, that we have to disregard other's speed. I'm a slower thinker than the average person and while I feel it makes me seem stupid even when I'm not, I have to realize that taking the time to think things through and making a decision is better than making decisions on impulse without thinking it through. I'm also a slower learner in that it takes me longer to learn tasks than others. Especially when it comes to learning facts. A lot of people can flourish in an auditory environment like a classroom, but I am more of a visual learner, so being able to look at facts and understanding stuff helps me to learn better. I'm also more of a kinetic learner and learn by doing rather than being told.

In our homogenous culture it's hard to accept the simple fact that we are unique, and "society" doesn't apply to us. We are constantly being told about what "most people" do, and we are usually compared poorly to them as a result. We are outside "society" that is our strength.

I have always learned new jobs slow. I learn it thoroughly. I've had coworkers snicker and make fun of me, thinking Im dumb and I won't succeed. When I gain speed, I pass everyone in my department. I have resigned from jobs after being in my position for years and at one company they had to hire two people to produce what I was able to do. One company had to shut the department down and give it to the parent company because they hired person after person who couldn't produce the amount of work I did. I think we just learn different then surpass everyone.

For several years, I worked in a bank department. I’m an artist, who also loves to write. So I was definitely a fish out of water. Everyone in this department was high energy, get it done no matter what. I, on the other hand, was a meticulous worker. Over time, I revamped the department to look professional. It even got the attention of corporate. They wanted to promote me, but I knew my limitations. When I left, the person who got my job hardly paid attention to my training. She figured she knew it all. Needless to say, she didn’t. Hence, the often overlooked strengths of the INFJ. We are misunderstood creatures in this world and sometimes unappreciated. But if we grasp our uniqueness as created by God to be who we are, we can do great things.
@borndeafin1ear
@borndeafin1ear 2 месяца назад
I thought it was only me who would take at least 3 attempts to start to understand something - everything. There are times where I realized later that it was less about grasping it right away and more about holding off any conclusions until enough sampling in both variation AND depth was achieved. It is more like "I need more information" to "verify my conclusions", so don't just stop before it starts. However, failure doesn't distract but becomes part of the process. In the end the understanding is wider and deeper.

He reminds me of this quality and I just have to persevere through the pain. It is painful looking slow at first, to be underestimated. But, the accelerator button gets pushed and voila, the tides turn. Also, what we think of as "success" is different than the cultural norm. Being able to go the beat of a different drummer is more rewarding than a high powered CEO job for us. Your insights and explanations about our world validates our experiences. In my life, I have not come across another INFJ that I could use as a role model. Everyone else was playing a different game. Thanks for being our mentor, Wenzes.

Such words of wisdom. Whatever course or studies I make, I'm always so slow to learn. My mind just keeps flying all over the place when I try to focus on something complex and new, thinking of everything that relates. I can add a loud "amen" to all five of these statements - especially #3 - trusting my own process. I especially had to remember that because speed is not my strong suit, and anything I do fast it's been from a lot of of practice.. One thing I've added for myself: when I'm working on something meaningful to me, I tell very few people about it. Sometimes I've told nobody. I've always had, as Wenzes says, to trust my own process - adjusting it and owning it. It's what I was given to. work with. Good video.

This is sooo thru. don't compare yourself.... Being 57 I'm still learning and evolving. Seeing or feeling others judging my way of moving makes me laugh internally. It took me years to accept myself and I hit rock bottom before that happened. People who love you will do this because you are who you are.... and I enjoy being alone, I'm not a beggar anymore and I don't give a fuck anymore how others think about me. Most people don't do the effort to see, they judge very fast and superficially. That's their mistake. Do what feels good to yourself, and don't compromise and wish all living beings all the best.

I can totally relate to this. Ive been a composer since 1988. Its not until the last 5-10 years that the pieces have fallin into place. So glad I kept going. I think my inner picture of music is really broad by now. Its a feeling of what I can imagine, I can create. It have given me some kind of inner calm. And like you say, I dont feel the need to prove myself to anyone anymore. A few years ago I got a job in IT and was asked to learn 3D-graphics. By that time I had realized that It would take time for me to do. That realisation helped a lot to see it thru. Once things stuck in my head, its was there. It wasnt going away. I also have a tendancy to reject shortcuts. I like the feeling of doing things from the ground up. I think this also gives a more "overview" knowledge of the subject/skill.

This happens to me in arts. I mean, I have fellow artists who program a series of paintings or drawings, and then they steadily make it in few months. When I make series of drawings, I work very differently, spending much time in ruminating ideas, associations, vibes, research, searching for visual patterns that later I will elaborate, etc. So at the beginning apparently nothing visible comes out, or very little, and many people think I'm not doing anything, but then all that work starts to get shape and explodes. When I was younger I usually got frustrated, trying to force my process to make it similar to the rest of people. But after the years, I started to appreciate my way of doing things, finding it actually very enriching, and enjoying my pace, using my ways to my own advantage. I've learnt not to rely on compliments when it comes to being encouraged, especially during the "non-visible" stages of my process, and simply enjoying my "hidden treasure" and getting excited about the non-visible daily achievements as much as for the visible.

I love this video topic. As I got older and started to recognize that I can trust my process-that it never fails me, Whenever Ive found myself getting anxious because it doesn’t seem like Im making any progress, for some reason I use this analogy of a rubber band to assure myself that we’re on track and there’s no need to worry. I used to envision a rubber band being pulled back-where, the more its pulled back the farther and faster it goes forward when it is released. Of course the exponential growth explanation is better 😆but before even knowing this was an INFJ thing, thats how I saw this experience of being “slow” in my mind. It always made me settle back down and relax and get back to what I was doing without caring what it looks like.

so how does one do this when 70? It seems I lived other's dreams. I wanted to be a Univ teacher my dad wanted me to be first grade teacher. I taught one year in univ in Korea and then got masters in ED for my dad and the little kids. When he died I quit and had to take care of my mom which I did for 10 years. It seems my dreams all died. I was considered a slow thinker by my brothers. I preferred the depth of ideas rather than linear. I felt so alone as a child. My health is bad, but I take care of the little things through natural remedies. I love research. But, have no friends. The ones I do have use me for their purposes. Again its because of different thinking styles. I never could handle huge crowds. This makes me sad as my life seems so wasted.

We give so much that it can seem that we have achieved other peoples dreams (for them) at the expense of our own - without realising we are doing this until years later. INFJ can be a lonely life in many ways. Sometimes we help others & don’t get a lot in return. It feels like a duty or goal to make sure they succeed, before we do. We can easily be taken advantage of, especially by energy vampires. Not liking crowds, loud noises, intense lighting, restrictive spaces, having no escape route, these are all things INFJ find very challenging. It’s ok. ***** Your life is not wasted, you are an amazing person. You have achieved & accomplished more than you will ever realise. INFJ are very hard on ourselves, but we are the world’s most rare, complex, intelligent, innovative, misunderstood & beautiful people who have ever existed.
