Something important to bear in mind is that this is not neccessarily the actors fault, for example Rodrick may have been specifically asked to over exagerate his movements to appeal to the younger audience. I think this is evident as the main reason behind creating this film seemed to be overwhelmingly money rather than plot.

Honestly I'm able to forgive the new actor for Rodrick. Actually in the movie book made for this movie, they state that they didn't but his hair because they felt it better represented the personality of a rockstar.

If you had actually read "The Long Haul", you'd know that Rodrick thinking a safe is a microwave, and Manny speaking Spanish, is staying true to the source material.

Dude I read for Rodrik for this movie and walked out of the studio after reading the script for this exact reason. They had made him so dumb and completely ruined the character.

I think for the most part it's usually bad direction and bad script. For instance, and I'm not saying these actors are anywhere near the same level, but Star Wars Revenge of the Sith had great actors but the poor direction made the actors look bad. A lot of dialogue was cringe and acted very badly but it wasn't the actors fault. They were told what to do and how to portray it.

Greg and Rowley look like the old actors, 5 years younger. If they (for some godforsaken reason) felt the need to make a prequel, they would be a good choice, but a sequel, no.
