I love how people are starting to realize how good this film was all along. It was fun and charming and exciting. I guess it took the Tom Cruise reboot to make people see that the Brendan Fraser one was a gem.
I never denied it was good; on the contrary, I loved it since they day I saw it for the first time in theaters in the 90's. In the time I could really enjoy going to the movies. Sure the experience of the theater is still miles better then what we have at home and the technology no doubt has improved beyond expectations to what was possible at the times of the Mummy... but the problems of Hollywood is that they now rely solely on those CGI special effects instead of actually creating a good story... more over they are now all about stuffing your throat with politics and the story is just a distant afterthought.... While going to the theater will always be a better experience then at home; I just don't see myself going to the theater coz today's movies aren't fun anymore. Nothing sucks harder then coming out of the theater and be like.... 'well that sucks; I paid a lot of bucks to see absolute garbage'. That's why I don't go to the theater anymore; it's not the quality of the theater, it's the disgusting degradation of Hollywood and the movies that are produced.
Ever since they got released, the first two movies are our "family movies". We actually don't watch stuff together, but every year we watch them again.
Yes, oh god I couldn’t click on this video fast enough. Both series have great movies and moments, but The Mummy really helped flesh out the action adventure of its time.
I can honestly say I’ve always liked it since I first saw it in theaters over 20 years ago. That said, I haven’t watched it in many years. Perhaps I should revisit it.
"impressive special effects" that I don't exactly agree, it looks dated, but even that doesn't take away from the rest of the movie and is still enjoyable
It's a shame that the uncharted movie looks the way that it does. I think that really had the possibility to be the next Indiana Jones and The Mummy style movie that we all want.
You know, I'll be the odd man out here and say that while not the best of the trilogy I still really liked Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Putting aside the Yetis I actually liked the take on the new mummy, being an ancient ruler who got in way over his head and had both he and his army condemned for his actions. And it didn't retread old ground either when it came to getting his body back. I'll still say I prefer the mummy from the first two, but the emperor had his charm as well. I guess the biggest reason I liked it was because it felt fresh, but also familiar. It didn't stray too far away unlike something like the Jurassic World movies and still retained its charm. Like I said, it's at the bottom of the trilogy for me, but the trilogy as a whole is easily a solid B in terms of pure entertainment, so that's not a bad thing at all.
I watched all three movies so much, I scratched each dvd. So once they were scratched beyond repair I would just go to the next until all three were toast.
Brendan Fraser was such a good actor, and deserved so much more than what he got!! I’m happy to see he is acting again, and after everything he has been through he deserves it!!
It's one of the movies my family always watches when there's time, so hearing that it isn't generally recognized as a top-tier time killer came as a surprise to me.
My favourite part is that, after all the traitorous shit that Benny did, Rick still genuinely tried to help him. As much as he probably disliked him, part of him still remembered that he was once a 'friend' and you don't leave people to die like that, even if they deserve it. That final "goodbye benny" is both "I'm sad you died but you brought this on yourself and I'm not gonna beat myself up about it".
The Mummy Returns, I believe, is criminally underrated. It took what the first established and built upon it in a good way, kept the tone, upgraded the action set pieces and that music score, oh boy!
@@RueRyuzaki6 just goes to show nobody's perfect. Even the best things made my humans have flaws in them. Doesn't mean the rest of the movie wasn't good 😁
@@RueRyuzaki6 tbf, i bet they could fix that CGI now and bring out a reworked version of the movie. With how movie landscape looks nowadays, i would actually expect that. Take old movies, fix the CGI, bring them out in 4K. boom money.
One of the keys to the movie's success is how many little beats it has, not just comedic beats and funny one-liners, but little bits of action business like this. It's something the MCU has clearly studied closely.
I watched some of the CGI review the the Corridor Crew did on this series, and it really brought to light how great of a job the team did at the time this movie was released. The combination of practical effects combined with CGI was stunning. They even changed the time of day of an establishing shot from day to dusk (shot on a miniature) digitally. So painstaking.
Man the mummy doesn't get the credit it deserves I love the first and second one classic I can watch it anytime and no ever mentions the mummy 2 birthed the career of THE ROCK
Agreed that the The Mummy is the best non Spielberg Indiana Jones sequel. If we were talking about the best Spielberg movie that isn’t an Indiana Jones film but is still a fantastic Indiana Jones sequel is The Adventures of Tintin. It doesn’t have the mystical criteria that The Mummy but it does have a colorful cast of supporting characters, globe trotting and visually stunning and adrenaline pumping set-pieces. I see it as Speilberg’s proper Indy 4
Good call. Have a look at ‘Tintin and the 7 crystal balls’ as a comic. Tintin was devised as a children’s book, but it becomes very dark at times. Perhaps darker than Indy. Though I really didn’t care for the whole cgi-version of Herge’s amazing books.
Indeed. I heard the film was best described as what Kingdom of The Crystal Skull should have been, and I wholeheartedly agree with that perspective. Even after remembering how the film originally attracted dislike for it's more photorealism look when originally showing, nice to see that the effort to give a more cartoon-y sense of design to the faces and world has helped it hold of visually way better than it really should have. I do very much enjoy coming back to it now and then.
The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser is awesome. I have seen it in the movie theater, along with the sequel The Mummy Returns. I'm impressed with this informative video.🌈🦄⭐👑🦊
@@robertobuatti7226 Sounds cool. I love the movie "Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark" and it's my 3th favoutive movie. The 1th favoutive is "Jurassic Park" and 2th "The lost world Jurassic Park" also "Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark" is the only Indiana Jones film I saw. And I'm a massive huge Jurassic Park fan and I am a dinosaur expert and a 14 year old that draws pretty damn cool dinosaur drawings. lol.
@Tyresaurus Oh that's sounds awesome, I wish I could draw dinosaurs, I used to draw human faces OK but I'm not gifted with artistic talent even though I love to draw.
Yes I do like these movies, well at least the first two, that third one when they went to China that needs to be put into a incinerator. But I like in the first two that blend of action and comedy.
@Big Fat Liar. you asked me do I want a fourth movie and I told you as long as it isn't the disaster that Tom Cruise's Mummy was. Or the 3rd mummy movie when they were in China. That one was straight garbage.
I've watched this movie like 100 times, it's a classic for me. I remember when I went to the cinema as a kid with my dad, and it scared the hell out of me. Especially when they cut Imhotep's tongue and lock him alive with the blue beetles, that shit gave me nightmares. Also, special mention when Imhotep wakes up.
That's how I pitched it to everyone after I saw it. "Animated Indiana Jones" (With a dog). The Indy Trilogy+Mummy+Tintin is one of the best adventure lineups you could ask for (I might also include Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
@@NakAlienEd Steven Spielberg was drawn to direct both movies as they are similar characters. As a Tin Tin fan since childhood (I had devoured those beautiful books as a kid), Spielberg’s movie was a great homage to the legacy of the character. It’s a pity it wasn’t successful enough to adapt further books into movies.
@@NakAlienEd Atlantis was Indiana Jones movie it was just that children weren't clued up on the Egyptians at the time. Star Gate covered that in it's franchise although they spun it as being an alien race.
The mummy and the mummy returns have always been in my top 10 movies since I was a kid. I say they hold up better than most movies made in recent times (except the scorpion king CGI lmaoooooo). It's great to see people realize that these movies are actually good. It's a shame what happened to Brendan Fraser, I've always really liked him and his films.
The Mummy is awesome and I wish more people from nowadays would watch and appreciate this masterpiece. Also, it's a shame that the majority forgot about the talented Brendan Fraser. The reason his career "ended" is just tragic. I wish this lovely man all the best!
John Hannah is so underrated. He's the classic British detective in Rebus season 1, then goes on to be the Naked Gun-esque parody of the same archetype in A Touch of Cloth
The Mummy is one of those eternally underrated movies. I was 10 in 1999 and seemed to be one of only like 3 people in my entire grade who liked it, and my sister and I seemed to be the only people I know who continued to like it into adulthood.
I was 10 as well, and everyone in my class preferred the later fast and furious movies while I was still obsessed with the Mummy. Glad to see it's been gaining a lot of love lately.
Just came to say I agree with everything! haha. I love the Indy movies (all 3 of them that exist), and always got mad when people called The Mummy just a ripoff...when it is actually the next step. The fully realized supernatural element that was always only suggested in Indy films, gets the center stage as the villain here. Great video!
I liked Crystal skull, yes it's my less favorite Indiana Jones movie, but it's still a good Indiana Jones movie none the less, and honestly aliens 8n the movie is no difrent from the lost ark of the convemt littleral Melton people and taking their soul,
I really like that, although they're not exactly the good guys, the movie doesn't make them evil or scumbags just for the sake of it. You really feel that they become afraid for their lives when they hear about the curse, and it's also a little sad the way they hang on to O'Connell to survive.
Title "The Mummy is the best Indiana Jones Sequel" Yeah, that's probably fair. The Video: "The Mummy is the best Indiana Jones movie" Nope. Not even slightly close. Raiders is as far above The Mummy as The Mummy is above Crystal Skull.
I distinctly remember seeing this movie with a bunch of friends. On the way out of the theater everyone was smiling and laughing and talking about how the movie was better than any of us expected it to be. Maybe it's not a great movie, but it's at least pretty darn good.
The Mummy is literally one of my favourite movies of all time. What got me interested in Egypt and history... I remembered the first time I watched it was Christmas time in 02 or 03. First time passing in Brazilian television in the Channel Globo. Had to beg my mom to watch it .. since it started at midnight and I was 8 hahaha.
It is a shame this genre of movies isnt made very often. It is probably my favorite type of movies. I have recently been watching these adventure movies. The most recent new movie was Jungle Cruise. It was not as good as Pirates of the Caribbean but a fun watch. Some others I watched recently were the Journey to the Center of the Earth series and the Scorpion King. The Mummy series is probably the next i will rewatch.
Honestly the Mummy Movies with Brendan Fraser are awesome and definitely filled the void with a Lack of Indiana Jones films, to me The Mummy films are Indiana Jones meets Evil Dead with Mr Fraser essentially being the film's Bruce Campbell with his Wit and Humor. Seriously I gotta rewatch these films again, they kick a lot of @$$.
I remember Seeing the mummy and duel wielding my police Toy revolvers and shoulder holster and Getting a Creepy pasta/modern day remake of a classic monster movie meets Disney action and adventures I luv this movie It will always be in my heart. P.s Does anyone remember watching this on Vhs or Amc and Usa Network on cable.
I didn't love the Mummy when it came out, but I should have. Back then, we realize how good it was just to get well made fun without any preaching in it.
I love the Brendan Fraser Mummy. It's one of my favorite movies, and it's perhaps the last great action/adventure film. Everything else that came after just seriously missed the sense of fun and exploration that it had. I have only one nitpick about this video, and that's the setting date of The Mummy. The 1999 movie was set in 1923 in the first scene, and then the rest of the film takes place 3 years later in 1926.
The Mummy is not the best Indiana Jones movie nor is it the best Indy sequel (I would say Last Crusade) BUT I would put the Mummy at 3rd behind those two. Better than Temple of Doom, Crystal Skull, Pirates of the Caribbean, and National Treasure.
Bro, this is a reasonably fun movie, and the first sequel as well. But comparing this to Indiana Jones is like comparing the Italian Job remake with Marky Mark to The Godfather sequels.
I always have nightmares on those scarab beetles as a kid. Seeing rhinoceros beetles whenever my friends' fight always reminds me of them from this film.
I always loved the subtle humor they put in. Like when O'Connell first met Carnahan and Carnahan playfully slaps him on the chest, and O'Connell immediately checks if he stole his wallet while mocking his laughing.
I grew up on this film as a young Kid and have watched this film and it's sequel at least once every year. It is the best Mummy film ever made and should be Brendan Frasier's crowning Achievement of his Career.
Yeah If I remember right There was this one scene where the people were possessed and the One guy was panicking on how he could escape the people who were "Brainwashed"/Possessed/Mind Controlled (super naturally ofc) and just out of no where acts one of the people and chants with them. Honestly that's was a Funny scene xD you can say one of my fav comedy scene even tho it's just so short it was still golden. But seriously tho even after years I can still remember this movie it was really great as said from the video. I mean if it can make me remember a certain scene even tho it was a very long time ago then that might be a sign that's its a solid movie. Although it's a very flawed excuse cause scenes from a movie can be a one hit wonder of sorts but still. This movie was a blast.
I enjoy this movie just as much as anyone, but it’s not even close to as good as Temple of Doom or Last Crusade come on now. Better than Crystal Skull tho
You know what?.... YES. It is a worthy, brilliant "spiritual successor" to the IJ films. I fondly look back at The Mummy movies and remember the 1st one being a super fun ride back when we watched it for the first time
the cgi tintin film also kinda feels like a spiritual successor to the Indiana jones, even though the source material is older I still get that feeling
