@@charlest2858 the United States has plenty of energy. We are above russia in energy exports and have plenty of untapped reserves of oil and tons in gas. Plus Canada is our partner who is no 2. Russia is no 3 in energy and 45% of its profits come from the EU who are declining their need from Russia. Its a matter of time. Might not happen in the next year or so but will in the mid to long game.

Russia has free education, including university education, it has low had low unemployment rate, for years. Less than 6%. 63% of the adults have tertiary education, thats one of the highest in the world, second only to South Korea, and their economy actually absorps graduates after school. It is going to be super difficult for such a country to lose its 'educated' people. Its important to separate wishing for something to be true and the actual reality. They fact of the matter is, western companies leaving the russian market, hurts them more. They came to Russia not to make Russia rich, but to make profit, it was a business investment. Them leaving, and losing billions worth of investment, doesn't hurt Russia more. They are leaving their assets, infrastructure in Russia, for free or for less returns. Let me give you an example, McDonald's, what value did it add to Russia? Or Nike, other than employing locals and maybe taxes (but we know how these large companies know how to avoid paying large taxes) anyways, my point is this, when they left, Russian owners took over, after all, the stuff was Russian, the suppliers and customers were Russians. Its the same everywhere , it gave opportunity for Russians to take over already established businesses. Its why countries insist foreign companies should have local shareholders, and local citizens in top management positions.

The guy responsable with the storage of replacing parts for army vehicles was selling on the black market new parts, doing a paper that he replaced at the army vehicles and when he trully needed a part for that army vehicle....well just pick a part from another vehicle and put it at the one he needs . It ain't even about sanctions, this time Europe will stop buying Russian gas for good. That will takes a couple years to damage but it will be devastating for 20 years.

*To be fair* the GDP chart for post-2014 is largely due to a dip in oil prices, rather than sanctions - at least that seems to be the consensus. The sanctions mostly just diminished Russia's ability to construct new modern weapons which we're seeing the impact of today. The new sanctions are quite a bit nastier and while Russia does get the "adrenaline high" of high gas prices and a strong ruble due to lack of imports, once oil prices stabilize they're going to start to realize that huge swathes of their civilian economy and wealth have just up and left the country and that nobody is willing to invest in them in the future. Even Chinese investors are keeping their distance. Honestly I just wish the west had implemented this level of sanctions when Russia took Crimea. It may have prevented him from invading Ukraine. Alas, the benefit of hindsight. :(

The pipeline to China is also going to northeast China, I'm not sure how big the demand for oil in that region is. Seems like China's energy infrastructure is more reliant on coal, but im not really sure in that statement.

Oil is at least a liquid, but gas needs special infrastructure, either pipelines (all going to Europe) or LNG terminals (which are probably already at capacity) Russia has also implicitly put Oil and Gas into a suicide pact, where if Europe shuts off the oil, Russia will shut off the gas, which is an interesting development

@@Hrotiberhtaz I suspect China won't want to buy too much Russian oil and gas because they've seen how Putin is willing to use that natural resources as a political weapon if you don't do what they want, so China will take advantage of Russia by pressuring them to sell oil and gas dirt cheap but they won't buy too much that they risk becoming dependent on them. Also, gas is a different story as that isn't easy to transport like oil is and another factor is that the likes of China and India will want to be careful of what the west does, basically, it could harm a lot of business interest from China and India in the west if they get too close to Russia when the world is trying to isolate Russia, hence why a lot of companies from China are either pulling out of Russia or scaling back as the west is far more valuable to them than Russia is and these companies seem to be doing it voluntarily without the government pushing it, basically, these companies are protecting their interest in the west and don't see Russia as being worth it with everything going on.

You do realize that Europe will stop buying 50% of Russian gas after they have filled the strategic reserves for the winter? That is worth ~30% of all Russian GDP. OFC now you are selling more gas and at a hi price, yet next year you can't bring ~120m of gas to anyone else without pipelines.

Germany is not Europe, the rest of Europe is not dependent on Russian gas. And the "big" problem with Germany is 20% of gas from Russia, it's not like they are gonna freeze without it, we will pass some. There are no limits on AC or anything, it's just common sense that in France you have to keep the doors closed in shops if you keep the AC on! You can't stop the military from fighting because it's got surplus materiel produced for literal decades sitting in warehouses and represents the largest land arsenal in the world. You can't stop the oligarchs because they have a ton of wealth saved up, scattered across the globe, and even without access to their bank accounts they have enough to live on for decades. So the west sanctioned tech, steel, the banking system, and everything else that could contribute to the Russian military. The plan is to ensure that the Russian military simply cannot replace its losses and grind them down with attrition until Putin comes to the table. A lot of the problems for the Russians is companies *abandoning* Russia en masse because either their logistics are no longer viable (companies refusing to do business with Russia/unable to do so due to restrictions from both sides) or because they're under extreme international pressure to abandon Russia by the public. The companies that pulled out? That's where the heaviest blow to the Russian economy - particularly the civilian market - came from, and it was never directly sanctioned outside of like... some industrial stuff. Most of them just left of their own volition because it's either do business in Russia for 0.5% of your annual income, lose 70% of that annual income due to boycotts, risk Russia doing what it did to the natural gas station and just nationalizing it out of the blue, or risk other countries deciding that they'll no longer do business and you'll have to pull out anyways. There's basically no winning move. You sanction, eventually those sanctions will impact quality of life for Russian citizens because the Oligarchs own *everything* anyways, so you can't stop their businesses without stopping business for Russian citizens. You can't even sanction just electronics without it massively impacting the populace bc their military will just use civilian electronics for military purposes - like they've been doing so far. You go to war, you risk Russia escalating to nuclear weapons and probably getting voted out of office in the next election because nobody wants to send their sons out to die in a foreign war they don't think impacts them. You ignore Russia, give up Ukraine, and now Russia is encouraged to do what it did in 2014 and 2022 by just taking shit from its neighbours and putting puppet governments in them as it so frequently has in the past. You make NATO look weak, encouraging other countries to do similar stuff to their neighbours, and you ensure that Eastern Europe will never forget that betrayal of trust. If you can think of a way to stop the conflict without impacting the Russian citizens I'm sure the world's leaders would love to hear it -- but so far as I see there's simply no way.

where have you been. Sanctions are having a huge affect with Russia's income. They have many billions more in reserve now, thanks to the sanctions. They also have a better partnership with China and can trade in Rubles, outside of the globally controlled SWIFT system. That itself shows Russia is winning the financial war and in the long run they and China will be stronger than the WEST. Huge strategical error, not partnering with Russia and creating a war with NATO buildups and WMDS being poured into Ukraine when Putin warned , keep it neutral or war.

@@1129411 The videos I was referring to were taken by ordinary people from inside Russia. Supermarkets were still stocked, although prices were higher and quality was lower and yes a lot of shops were closed down. But otherwise things just seemed to be carrying on as normal more or less.

Wouldnt a flat sanction against food purchases be an inhumane move to the international stage? They also temporarily clamp down on medicine and medical devices but lifted those sanctions already. They may also be keeping the food market as a sanction of last resort

Inflation in Europe is 10%, in Russia it's 15-40%. Only Germany was dependent on Russia gas.

So those numbers you are throwing about dont mean anything without further context, but I suspect that would work against your point.

Majority of oil doesn't come from Russia, but significant portion is, and declining. Issue is with natural gas.

The only things that Russia exports are: Terrorism Oil Gas Dashcam accident footage The last two positions are the most crucial ones for EU, I thing Dashcam footages will keep coming anyway, but the gas could be a problem. But EU countries started to act and their have increased the gas reserves by huge amounts during the last few months. On top of that EU is quickly changing their sources of gas imports. There shouldn't any fuel crisis even if Putin stops exports completely.
