John, you have a spectacular channel. When you ask your guests a question and they go on for ten minutes answering it without an interruption is what sets you apart. You are getting such an amazing and detailed answers from the bottom of their hearts backed by the data and knowledge very few can obtain, but most importantly is hearing these incredible minds speculate because with out our speculation and curiosity we would still be throwing sticks and rocks.
@JohnMichaelGodier
@JohnMichaelGodier 4 года назад
Thanks, and that's exactly the method. I read all of the guest's papers and materials beforehand, go in prepared and informed to ask relevant questions and then just let the guest speak and show their passion for their work. It's really much like being a student asking questions from a professor after a lecture, you ask the question and then listen and get the complete answer. And, often, we end up with gems of information that we would not get had the guest been interrupted.

Honestly this channel is a godsend. I've had severe insomnia for as long as I can remember, to the point where I was worried my chronic sleep deprivation would cut years, if not decades, off my lifespan. At 23 years old I have finally found the cure: This podcast. Event Horizon is always super interesting, so it takes my mind off the fact that I'm trying to go to sleep and thus eliminates any kind of "I'm supposed to sleep but I can't"-anxiety, yet at the same time the ambient background music and JMG's amazing voice is calming and relaxing. The best part is I feel like I'm never running out of new material, because if I fall asleep in the middle of an episode, I just restart the episode the next night at the last part of it that I can remember. I can't even put into words how much getting sufficient and consistent sleep has helped me in all areas of life, and I have this podcast to thank. Thank you.

What might make the site interesting, from a sanity-preserving point of view, is that one can now use voice on it, allowing for real-time conversations that sound like conversations. Most of the ones you'll find in-world are a little banal, but in principle you could find some people with common interests, meet them in-world and have a discussion, without the lockdown getting in the way. Congratulations (and thank you!) for having such a most prominent guest! You are really becoming someone in the space world! I've spent a decade now, as a complete amateur, listening to what biologists, geologists, mineralogists, climate scientists, other geophysicists, astronomers, cosmologists and even philosophers and crazy fictional visionaries have to say about the possibility of life outside of Earth. And the clear and simple answer is that no one knows! It's frustrating, but no one can tell whether life is everywhere or nowhere. Basically because we haven't taken a good look at it on site. And there's no clue as to how life once originated, here or anywhere. Sitting at the desk and speculate has turned up nothing at all. Unless some genius slams his head hard on the desk so that something good comes out of it, I doubt anything will. We need to go there and bring back samples in order have a chance to figure this out. I take the point of view of John Milton in Paradise Lost (with the argument that it is at least well written), where Adam is visited by an angel who explains to him why day turns to night, why there is sea and land and such practical things. Adam curiously asks whether there are other paradises at those white dots in the night sky? The angel answers that it is not for him to speculate about such things, but instead do the gardening of the Paradise created for him.

Also we have sniffed organic compounds in this water during a cassini fly by.. so I mean, if that's what you consider alot going on, I guess so. It still doesn't change the fact that it's working with a tiny area,compared to Europa, Titan, Pluto, or Callisto, which are all possessing entire world spanning oceans 100 of km's deep. Also Ceres. Ceres probably has more going on than enceledus to be fair. But hey nobody knows yet. Also,due to the significantly tiny area of actual liquid water on Enceledus, it is highly likely, this isnt an ancient phenomenon... Having discovered this channel last year I now look forward to my weekly episode of Event Horizon. It is very good. But I have to say that I especially enjoyed this episode, not just for the diversity of subject matter but for the guest Dr. Jim Green. What a wonderful talker and I would say also a wonderful educator. Not only does Dr. Jim tell us inside info on what NASA is up to but his passion for his work made the telling of the story all the more enjoyable to listen to. Importantly Dr. Jim would give us a bit of a background to whatever question was asked. Instead of, for example, just answering a question about what life could be on such and such a moon, he expanded his answers to tell us something about the moon, its history, how we hope to explore it, etc. He didn't talk down to us as if we are idiots but nor did he make the mistake of assuming that we all knew what Europa or Titan, or whatever, was. That's a great educator. In this field so many people seem to assume that the listeners already know the stuff that they don't. Anyone from 12 to 102, with lots of knowledge or no knowledge about the Solar System, could listen and be enthralled by Dr. Jim. I know I was. Thank you all for a really enjoyable programme. It is 3 days later, I am still buzzing from it and will listen to it again tonight.

What about Ganymede. It has a friggin magnetic field no other moon has that right? Do we know if Europa’s core is as active as Ganymede?
@xanider5098
@xanider5098 4 года назад
Galileo has found that Europa has a weak magnetic field (perhaps 1/4 of the strength of Ganymede's). And most interestingly, it varies periodically as it passes thru Jupiter's massive magnetic field. This is very strong evidence that there is a conducting material beneath Europa's surface, most likely a salty ocean. With this, i'm wondering if it's possible if this is enough protection. :D

The ultimate humbling experience: We discover that life spawns easily at every opportunity, and even intelligence and technology are common. Plus, everyone is happy, peaceful and willing to share and cooperate with each other. But they see us as too primitive to bother with because we are undisciplined and too foolish to put aside our competitive rivalries. Moreover, they can prove that having bicameral brains makes any species prone to developing mild schizophrenic delusions, such as belief in gods, and this makes them unstable, and potentially dangerous. Our emerging onto the interstellar scene is causing concern about whether we can be given full citizenship in their fraternal pact, and most want to extend our period of quarantine for another 1,000 years, to observe whether we will destroy our own worlds and ourselves. In other words, we are the new kid at school, and nobody wants to talk to us. Now that's a bummer.... Second possible scenario: Welcome to Heaven! We've all been wondering if you would make it. Pull up a seat. The party is about to begin. Also humbling. Third scenario: There are good guys and bad guys. They are at war, and we have to choose which side we are on. May Heaven help us. Scary. Scenario #4: But if it turns out that we are alone, and life is actually pretty rare, then we are at least a little bit special. And maybe God has a plan for us. Yay!! Which one do you hope is the most likely? www.emunahechad.blogspot.com
