One of the strangest things about the future is that, in 100 years, your great great grandchildren will be able to look on web archives and see photos of you making out with some random guy/girl in college and know the exact date, time, and place that occurred. Compare that to a discussion I just had with my mom about her grand parents, she didn't even know their names.

Personally, I happen to think that assuming there will be super intelligent AI in the future is premature. I happen to believe there is something we're missing about cognition and sapience that will take a very long time to resolve and fully understand.

I think, authors like H.G. Wells were very good at guessing future events, but I think the best and most unknown sci-fi book I came across and I have red multiple times, is from 1922 by the Diaries from Paul Amadeus Dinach, 'Chronicles from the future" a person who claims to lived in the future for a year while being in a coma and writes what will happen in the coming two millenia after coming back out of his coma. I had died after heart attacks and went through what is commonly known as near death experiences, and besides it's personal emotional sides, it was eye opening to know there is no God or heaven on the other side, but plain collective of endless loving souls, which are us and not aliens or entities outside of us, and are by our choice reborn. There is absolutely nothing "miraculous" about this, only a part of evolution and in this episode of my life, I saw that phases humaity will go through in the next millenia and that I will be reborn again. I grew up with teachings of conservative monotheistic religion and nothing my parents teached were true. All the other entities are only parts of you and your higher self. Read the book, it's very interesting how correct everything turned out about our time so far.

The Expanse novels are better than the show, but the show is great. Of course, this show's possible cancellation will either cause them to smoosh the rest of the books into one season, which will ruin it, or they will never complete the story, which will suck.

I was born in 1959. I vividly remember Apollo 11 and the first moon landing -- I was ten years old. I want to live to be 120. I probably will, if I don't lose the will to do so.

Not as wierd as the future would be with other intelligent lifeforms, a future with Isaac Arthur seems rather nice.

The new Peter F. Hamilton Salvation series is pretty good as far as Sci-fi books go. I actually started reading him because Isaac recommended Pandora's Star on one of his episodes.

My personal favourite explanation for the Fermi Paradox is super-conductive, low-heat emission meat-machine slime-bones. So efficient that the mere act of standing on an asteroid is enough to derive nutrition. I say nutrition because the slime-bones' technology is basically on the level of biology and looking at it would never give one the mental image of what we puny apes think is a machine. So yes, so efficient (and possibly so slow) that any heat they emit could not possibly escape that of any stars. In-between stars? No problem, they don't pump out much more heat than natural rocks. Can we detect them? Sure, but the temperature differences are easily explained away that no one ever knew they were there. Oh, right... I guess it's not much of a Fermi Paradox solution because they've been colonizing our Solar System for the past 80 million years, we just haven't picked up on them yet. Don't worry, we have quite a few million years left because they're still colonizing the Scattered Disc.

I think we should dive more into extra-dimensional & paranormal stuff in a scientific sense. A really good game of late I have been playing is called "Control", it uses fantasy elements into sci-fi, not making it overpowering & ridculas but making it where it is govern by the laws of physics we yet to discover. In that game you play as a psychic who has strong telepathic powers trying to stop an interdimesional demonic threat called the Hiss.

Life extension is already here!!! Kidney failure that took my g/father's life in 1960 (in just 1 year) i've had for 47 yrs. Things are changing so rapidly. 🤔

5:00 Life expectancy is decreasing because humans are currently eating insane amounts of refined sugar-which we did not evolve to eat. That's not going to change any time soon unfortunately because of special interests. But bit of advice: if you want to avoid cancer, keep your refined sugar consumption down. It also contributes to heart disease because sugar damages cholesterol (LDL) making it impossible to take empty LDL molecules back up into the liver from the blood stream. They then lodge into arteries, forming plaques. This is due to *sugar*, not fat. Refined sugar also causes inflammation in and of itself. The seed oils (vegetable oils in the states, even though it contains no vegetables), people are consuming is problematic too, since these omega 6 fats also cause inflammation via oxidation. The body wants a certain ratio of omega 3 to omega 6, and most people are ingesting far too much omega 6. Note that I'm not talking about olive or avocado oils here. Those are pressed, and they don't come from seeds. Totally different thing and they're generally okay as they're less prone to oxidation. These two factors combined are at the root of our current diabetes, heart disease etc epidemic. Has almost nothing to do with dietary fat, and it never did. Most tribal populations ate insane amounts of fat and protein with no ill effects or impact on life span. And, they didn't die at 30. That's a myth. Some did die earlier in life, but that was because of infection, human on human violence or predation. Nothing to do with diet.

This was fun. My son was particularly intrigued with the "universe as a sandwich" theory.

You like Mandy? I am very disappoint. That show is poorly written and extremely shallow, imo. But each their own. And yes, I've seen every episode. I watch it with a friend. But overall I am not pleased. It could be much better. Blame it on Disney, I guess. Relies on baby Yoda gimmick and has almost nothing else going on. Every ep is a different, predictable fetch quest. It's on par with video game level writing. Oh god, you like Picard & Discovery too. Yeah, we must have very different tastes. IMO, Picard was one of the worst shows I've seen in a long time. Destroyed the image of an iconic character, too. Each their own.

I can really appreciate Isaac Arthurs ideas and the way he thinks, but his voice drives me nuts. This one will be a sound down, subtitles on episode. It is the only way for me.

I lost both my legs (above the knee) in combat almost a decade ago now. I’m almost 30 now. My hope is that I live long enough to become a cyborg and experience true bionics. We are close now but nothing on the market fully replaces organic legs yet.

So you bring up a good point about big brother sending you even more targeted ads, but what about when your cybernetics get locked behind a pay-wall in out capitalistic society?

I’d wager we can already transmit emotion. Humans generate massive amount of chaotic content which is themed and categorized, then presented in such a way to a person that an emotion is transmitted. Regrettably it seems the emotions of rage are being transmitted to all of us above all others. Perhaps this is our skynet: massive AIs throwing humans into chaos with emotions instead of bullets.
