By that logic, fantasy movies should have caused people to fight with swords, axes and maces all over the world. I'm almost sad that their logic is complete fucking bullshit, because that'd be awesome.

A bit ironic - nunchaku are not "ninja" weapons, they were farming implements used by peasants due to a weapon ban on the lower classes. The nobility took advantage of the disarmed commoners, and so the pushback had to be done with common tools like staffs, sickles, and nunchaku.

ironically none of the hero Turtle NES games were censored, and you could actually use nunchucks in those games!

Funnily enough, Canada actually banned various weapons, but only IRL. These include said shurikens (or any bladed weapon that had 3 or more bladed tips), switchblades, butterfly knives, T-knives (push daggers), ring knives, fully automatic weaponry & converted automatic weapons, and handguns with a barrel that's less than 105mm.

That "grappling hook type device" is a kusarigama. Without doubt harder to wield than simple nunchucks, but having the same basic functionality with the added bonuses of being able to draw blood and somehow not be subjected to a ban. It was all very stupid and it's a major annoyance we're now seeing the very same political shenanigans going on.

I've never understood nunchuku bans. I mean, if you really want to deter people from using them, let them use them. After they concuss themselves a few times they'll decide to go don something less dangerous. Like play videogames.

I was also hoping for an explanation for the "Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles" change. Since it was just as ridicules as thecensoring mikey's nunchucks thing.

Selphie's weapons are still referred to as nunchaku in character dialogue as well as the SeeD test questions in FF8. It seems the guys looking to censor it didn't look hard enough.

If we can convince gangs to use throwing stars and nunchaku instead of knives, shivs, brass knucks, etc., it would make gang violence far less threatening.

You know as a british gamer of the 90s and 00s I didn't know this ban existed till 2012 when i dusted off my VHS copy of TMNT which was TMHeroT then I did a little google search and found out about this stupid ban.

in the 80's fantasy movie Krull they had an weapon called the glave an ninja throwing star style weapon with retractable blades and it wasn't banned but restricted to the amount of scenes it could be used.FRANKIE CROFT SMALES

It's funny how BBFC and the media went through all of this to blame movies, games and whatnot and not a single mention of Football, one of the big sources for hooligans and violent people. Same happened in Spain, although thankfully no game suffered censorship (Just a couple cases of age rating being rose)

So did the UK ban movies with knives, baseball bats and pipes? Hell did they ban movies with sticks? Anything can be used as a weapon, even easily obtainable objects. That's what never made sense to me. A set of nunchaku is more dangerous to an inexperienced wielder than his opponent and a baseball bat (or cricket paddle in the UK) is much more dangerous.

I call BullShit against banning the ninja weapons. Criminal Gangs all over the world would use guns and knives and all sorts of weapons, why go after weapons from Japan? Those people at BBFC in the 70s were so stupid in their logic they didn't understand the logic of reality. Also the BBFC tried to ban Manhunt 2 all because of the risk of some kids mimicking the behavior in the games, even the original Manhunt game was blamed for one of the kids being killed in the UK, even though it was the kid that was killed that had the game not the other kid that killed him as it was later found out. Sadly the BBFC is easy to cave in to moral panics from the public, thus is a good reason why they never rate games again afterwards in my view. Sadly this also lead to the confusing PEGI system having to cater to every European country on their list with some games under the BBFC rating of 15 would be given a PEGI rating of 18 in some situations as it was back when BBFC used to rate games higher than a 12 rating. .

Well'l you can easily make more deadly throwing implements from 2 pairs of pointed scissors, just grind down the axis pins on them get some 3mm nuts and bolts double sided tape and parachord fit it all together. And an even more deadly one from a circular saw blade and scissors that i have made there. ps just watch JorgeSpave's slingshot channel to see what can be made from every day tools ect. As for Nunchacku's just watch Shadversity a stick is a more effective weapon.
