they really need to get the cost of these drone units under control, we need 50,000 of them at low cost per unit.. not 2,000 a year at 80k each 💰💸

@paulbedichek5177 2 месяца назад
$80K is fine,as long as it's 10,000 for Ukraine ,right away. Turns out theJavelin is a great bargain as it wreaks havoc with the Russians. Switchblades have been deployed in Ukraine, it did well, but that is where we get the best return for our money.

@paulbedichek5177 80k each is not sustainable on american's wallets

One took out a Russian air defense system recently. It had a unique aproach but it hit the target.

I heard, what was the unique approach? Was buk or pantsir right.

@bekeneel It started diving up and down awkwardly when it locked in on aproach.

1000 drones that cost $52k with a production of 6000/year versus Ukraine style drones that cost $500/ea and making 150,000/month [2 million a year]. China which makes the motors, video, the electronics and batteries are obviously also way ahead in manufacturing to keep up with demand, also a problem. Drone AI is in testing phase, which will make them less prone to EW, making them more effective. Lessons are not being learned yet in the US.

Interesting. US Army went for Switchblade 600 while US Marines went for Hero 120. Wonder if both services will also adopt reusable FPV drones carrying grenades and mortars for anti-personnel.

Good idea but I think we should follow the UK Hydra program with reusable little drone carrying Hellfire missiles that can be launched and recovered from the back of a truck
@bekeneel

Is that the missile with like ninja blades? Or warhead too? Cuz these switchblades are used by Ukraine they recently destroyed a sam system with 1.

Hellfires are very expensive and heavy. Soldiers need quick response mobility like the basic mortar systems in ambushes.

I well remember the big announcement of sending Switchblades and Phoenix Ghosts early in the war. Since then, next to nothing but crickets has been heard about them in Ukraine
@verdebusterAP
@verdebusterAP 2 месяца назад
The simple fact is that Ukrainian forces dont have the time to train their personnel how to effectively use them Secondly the US military uses the Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) which connects all forces on the battefield allowing them to get real time info on enemy movements again Ukraine lacks that Ukraine uses FPV because they can hunt for Russian targets and if they dont find any, the drone comes back ,Switchblade are not reusable The US military can use them more effectivelly

The 600 has been used to hit air defense however the 300 has to small of a warhead
@johnsilver9338
@johnsilver9338 2 месяца назад
Very little Switchblade 600 has been sent to Ukraine. Mostly were Switchblade 300. But FPV drones carrying grenades and mortars looks to be more effective and cheaper too for anti-personnel.
@FroggyTWrite

of course the us military is paying between 60 and 100k per unit when ukraine can achieve the same thing with off the shelf parts a fraction of the price

They go through about 10,000 a month in 2023, and their current production of 150,000/month suggests an even higher number.

We've had them since 2016, we've already sent a bunch to Ukraine last year! We've launched them entirely masse out of the back of helicopters....and why didn't you mention the Switchblade 300, it's smaller little brother???
