Actually they are Sumitomo, Yamaha s own brake and suspension company. They been building them for Yamaha forever then became a subsidy of Yamaha. Pretty impressive, I have one bike with ohlins and brembos. My other has an R1 Sumitomo rear shock and calipers. I much prefer it for ride quality and braking on the street especially.
@@musguelha14 yeah I stand corrected. I saw that once my new mt arrived. The brakes though look identical to the r1(sumitomo) set up on my other bike, are nowhere near as strong. One of the things don't see none of the reviewers mentioning for some reason unless comparing it to a Triumph or KTM R. . They suck. ,.The rear with the Nissin is very strong. I'm going change pads see if that fixes them. Lot of hoopla over this bike. Some deserved, some not.
I'm one of those who changed their mind about the headlight.. really liked the 2nd generation, which I think is still the among the best looking bikes out there due to the headlight, but this one has grown on me to the point where I actually do like the look of it. Can't wait to have my hands on one of these in a few months.
After 2 months of waiting I finally got my MT09 2021 and i am just loving it 🤩 comparing to my 2017 MT09, MT09 2021 is just brilliant and i am the happiest person alive on earth 🌎🥰
@@santiagomoralesgarcia1802 personal preference really. We’ve got two at our local dealership and I gotta say, it didn’t get any better. It looks cheap!
I went out today to check out some bikes I'm considering for my next bike. It's amazing how small differences in a bike can make a huge difference. I was keen on the Z900, but sat on one today and found I didn't really like the ergonomics, the slightly higher bars on the MT09 felt really good for me, even sitting still the MT09 just felt light, it fits me far better. it's now down to the MT09 and the XSR900. Looks like I'm buying a Yamaha lol
Revving the engine from idle doesn't do it justice. I test rode one recently and the noise it makes even at city speeds made me giggle the entire ride. The sound it makes is pure music to my ears. No need for an after-market exhaust. Everything is just buttery smooth: fueling, transmission, quick shifter. You can use the quick shifter and blipper even at lower RPMs (take that BMW). For the blipper to work correctly you do however have to completely roll off the throttle, otherwise it does not activate at all. This bike has come a long way from the 1st generation jerky wheelie monster and Yamaha has really dialed it all in perfectly now it seems. This would be my next bike if it would just look less ugly. I know, there's the XSR, but over the years the design has lost its appeal to me. It has not aged well and has started to look a bit goofy to me. I'm more leaning towards "authentic" neo-classic bikes like the Kawasaki Z900RS these days (which can be customized to make 130hp for less than $500) and has a similarly giggle inducing engine. Also, you sit really far forward under the fuel tank, at least that's how it feels like. It reminds me a bit about supermoto ergonomics. Very different from my SV where the ergonomics are more neutral.
I personally like the front end. It’s unobtrusive but practical and the cyclops main beam is something unique. It looks a little bit sparse when viewing it from above (all the bolt heads make it look a little unfinished) but the look you get from the side, showing off the shape of the bars and forks, makes it look really edgy. If I hadn’t just got a new bike 9 months ago, I’d be testing one of these 👍
Triples have always been my engine of choice, I had and have MVs and Triumphs. I did checked this bike out in years past but wasn't sold. The latest version has addressed some of my issues I had, (hate the rubber brake lines). Overall it seems like a good bike in a very competitive field. I still love the Streety and Brutale.
Liked the look of the 1st gen hated the 2nd gens droopy stick out lights and now the 3rd gen and i love the cyber punk stripped out look, best of all generations imo. Hopefully no one else likes it's looks so i get a good deal on the sp next year. Was thinking mt10 having always had litre bikes but the mt09 is now so good it just makes more sense.
As many comments state. Competitors for Price are Z900, KTM 790 / 890, BMW F900R , Aprilia Shiver 900. Its was lazy to forget at least 3 major brands in the video... A bit more expensive you got new Ducati monster 937 cc.
I would argue that the MT09 is the best in its class, for fun, reliability, and for a day to day rider. Only the Duke 890R would match in for fun but it’s a shame KTM have there reliability issues. The street triple might be a better track bike although that remains to be proven, but on the road feels a little to grown up and sensible. Having said that, all three a very good and I wouldn’t say any are the wrong choice, I’d be happy with either one but the Yamaha would take my money for ease of ownership and fun value
For bangs for your buck the MT-09 is unbeatable but in MCNs 250 test of the MT-09SP ,KTM 890R and Street triple RS they had the RS as the winner even though they gave the MT-09 the same number of stars with the 890R third.
I recon best bang for the buck is the new Suzuki GSXS1000. More more powerful now with a up and down quickshifter better looks bigger tank and only a bit more weight. And the price is almost the same. So I hope Suzuki UK will provide U one and then we will know what's what :)
Here in the US, they are $9399, which sounds good, until..... Out the door price? $11,283.. Not all dealers charge as much on fees, but the one by me does.. It was a bit of a shock... Still haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I want one, so probably will. Just need to shop around a bit.
The exhaust note sounds similar to the old exhaust when you're on the throttle. But I don't hear the gurgles and bawbles when you're off the throttle? Who doesn't love a little extra torque! Nice bike!
it can happen , nothing is far , no one absolutely noone ever thought that r6 will someday come with twin engine instead of 4 , if u have told a any person a year ago r6 will be twin they would have laughed 😂😂
I'm so hyped about the prospect of an R9 on the horizon. Same powertrain, better suspension and brakes, clip-ons, maybe slightly stiffer frame and sexy fairings similar to those on the R1. We can dream right?
Just watched this again, Bob. I am seriously considering one for use in northern Thailand. 120 miles to the nearest dealer, but that's not really a problem. I am probably the only person on here who really likes the look of this exhaust. Nice TFT, too. Not too big. And yes, I love the projector headlight.
If I was buying just one bike I'd get the 2021 mt09sp as the do it all bike, as it covers all bases for me. Luckily I'm going to have two, so I'm keeping my 2015 mt07 as my runaround and in going to buy a 2021 s1000r as my sunny weekend blaster.
I'm looking forward to what they do with the XSR. And the 700 version. I need to see an MT-09 in the flesh to know what I think about the headlight. I like the lack of plastics. The frame looks miles nicer than the old one. I like the look and sound of the exhaust.
I hated the design at 1st, but it has really grown on me now, my local dealer had the 2020 model and the new model side by side and I honestly prefer the new shape.
Front end was downright weird in the beginning but now everyone is doing it - GSX8CS(sic) . It’s a race bike with lights, indicators and rego. I’d prefer a Guzzi V1000- Italian shaft drive cafe racer.
Hey ! Many thanks for the Speedo Angles coupon code ! Got it for my new MT-09 ! :-) Love your channel ! For the past few months was only ogling at the MT-09 videos and finally got it on 1st June 2021 Even then I am still ogling at the MT-09 videos ! My wife and kids have had enough of me already ! :-) Life has been feeling so MT ever since !
Have 3k kms on mine already. Absolutely loving it. I also love the design and I think it’s better then previous models. Stock exhaust system is amazing, it’s just enough loud for me and even makes the “pop” noise on shifts. And man, up/down shifter is the best thing ever!!!
Looks terrific value for money, the looks are a bit quirky and will put some off though. Needs a screen to tidy up the front I would probably need to add a sports screen, really don't like the exposed regulator perhaps future bolt on options will cater for this. Likewise underslung exhaust ports also seem odd. Still definitely on my options list though, wonder how good a weekend mini weekend tourer this would be? Probably going to be either this or a Kwak 900RS.
@@MachoMadness69420 the z900 is boring. Literally a sewing machine appliance. A heavy commuter bike without the top-end power or looks of a supersport.
Great review Bob. I thought someone had stolen the side panels. I still don't like the headlight set up but bike looks good side-on and I agree a super paint job with those Honda orange wheels. 😉
Idk of I’ve changed my mind on the look of the headlight, but I definitely think I could live with it now considering the new specs and reviews of the SP
Powerful and agile naked. I will definitely ad a steering damper. Headlight is definitely unique, but I like it... Finally, a modern display cluster that complements the 09 update. Having test ridden the Z900 and MT09, I will go for the Yamaha without a doubt. Personally, I think that the MT09/MT10 will become cult bikes just like the VW MK 1 Golf :) I ride a 2018 MT09 and love it. To be honest I prefer the second generation over the new models. What do you guys think? The 2 head lights looks great not to mention switching to high beam... Look, i am probably biased when it comes to the headlights but the new model is worth every penny.
What I couldn't stand on the MT07 and 10 previously, were the false air intakes. They really annoyed me. There was no aessthetic reason for them and they did nothing. The front light looks fine on both bikes. Test ride of 09 soon. Seems pretty perfect to me; I'm not a tourer. Small dash- Who cares?
Having the digit on the end makes it seem like they actually value the bike based on cost and not marketing or for as much as they think they can get for it.
The XSR 900 you complaining about has been totally revised now. All your complaints are sorted in that one. Looking forward for your review of that one.
I loved the headlight of my 18. Don’t much care for the 21. Ruined the front end look but I can live with it for now. Can’t wait for an aftermarket replacement. Not going to change my mind, yamaha should never change their “angry eyes” headlights, it’s part of the reason dedicated yamaha buyers keep buying blue. I will be purchasing the first aftermarket option to make the front lights look closer to the 18 design.
Just watched 2 other bike reviews from official media outlets, then this video. Yours was the slickest, best produced and arguably most professionally delivered. Some man if this is just a hobby. 😂😂😂
Hmmmm it's pretty great although I might hold on to see if the XSR900 gets the same upgrades as the looks are more to my liking. I still like this though - it'd be an amazing bike to ride every weekend
So someone as tall as 5’5’’ is definitely to high for me,,, also want to mention a after market exhaust it would sound much better, congratulations on your new bike.
I like the risky direction they took with the looks, took a while but im ok with it now. While the trident looked great from the start... its starting to look more and more "typical". Theres so many other options for that sort of look now
I just like the quality of the triumphs. Triumph really do seem to be becoming the bikes to have. I would pick them over a BMW for example. The Yamaha has got the price and running costs to its favour, and also it is nicely specified too. I think it is a tough choice in the segment now. Perhaps you are correct in the fact that it almost comes down to looks...
This bike would kick so much ass in American cities. I hope they sell the fuck out of them here in the states. Also, your videos kick ass. I wish you well
@@cowmath77 you actually ride or cry about how other people comment? Try and get either your IQ or testosterone up and wipe your tears little fella, its gonna be okay
I love the new look. hated the previous one, but to me it is a no no. The tank is just too small. When I take a break, I prefer taking a coffee instead of filling the tank.
I cannot unsee the lack of those side panels. It looks unfinished and like they fell off or someone just forgot to put them on. It's really off-putting for me and I do like the bike, apart from that. Looking at this bike or the GSX-S 1000, which is more money. Wonder does anyone make side panels for this. F-me...
Loved my 2015 MT09 in grey, I don't think this paint scheme compares to it, that "sticker" on the swing arm looks cheap and nasty. Exhaust note is nice for a standard system, could learn to live with the headlamp as long as it gives off a decent beam.
