Why They Made Live-Action Cad Bane SO Different 

When I first saw Bane I definitely felt like he looked weird, but his face has grown on me, I honestly like it. Also, it’s important to remember he’s super old now, he's been aging since we last saw him, and I think his face shows that.

I have watched clone wars for a while now and Cad Bane has been one of my favorite characters in the show. However I don't have a problem with Bane's appearance in live-action whatsoever. On first glance, I understood the complaints and the blatant differences between his clone wars appearance and his live-action appearance. I chose to be optimistic about his appearance though since when live-action Ahsoka first debuted, I had many critics, but overtime her appearance became more natural and I am just grateful to have her in live-action. The same can be said about Bane in my opinion and I am (or would be) excited to see more of him in live-action.

Someone who watched clone wars, I think cad bane would have looked so much better if they at least made him a darker blue and used CGI to make his head slightly more narrow. I feel like that’s the least they could’ve done to make the character look like people expect him to look. It also kind of bugged me that the braces on his arm were a darker blue than he was. That part is just a nitpick but I felt like it made his design look cartoonish which kind of defeats the purpose of changing his design to make him look less cartoonish.

Much like Ashoka’s live action look I don’t have a problem with Banes, sure her Lekku could be longer, and sure cad banes face could be more narrow, however in terms of practicality for the actors the design changes make sense for functional purposes.

Honestly I think this is a non-issue. Yes, the CGI version looked more like the Cad Bane we all know, but is that really necessary? the Clone Wars Cad Bane is more in line with the animation style of the show -- every character had long, thin, angular faces. Look no further than Count Dooku. He looks like he was carved from a tree. Humans don't really look like that, and he certainly did NOT look like the live action version (Christopher Lee). The fact that Cad Bane was imagined using real life prosthetics instead made him more "real" to me by far. And as far as the original Duros prosthetics from A New Hope, they were basically background characters wearing rubber masks. For as many close-ups, facial expressions, and dialogue as he had in Book of Boba Fett, that would have just looked hokey and fake. I do agree that he should have been darker blue, but as it was suggested in the video, maybe this decision was made to make him look more aged, maybe a little worn out and battle fatigued. I can live with that.

I don't care one bit how "different" Can Bane looks in the live action. I think he looks awesome! To me the difference is the style of Clone Wars and live action is obvious; so I don't care that he looks, slightly different since that is expected. But cinematic capture's work is OBVIOUSLY incredible. And I would also not mind if Disney added his work into their future renditions of Cad Bane (if he survived Boba's attack).

I noticed the different skin tone and thought it was their way of portraying his age. I saw the mouth position and thought it looked weird, same with the nose but thought it was due to the prosthetic. But as soon as I noticed the different hat size I thought: There is no excuse for making his fking hat smaller like that!

The fan art DOES look amazing. Can't deny that. No Star Wars content is perfect. A New Hope has all sorts of inconsistencies too.

I thought it looked rough at first but then it grew on me and I think it adds age and 'wear and tear'. He's one of my favourite characters in the clone wars but I think a bit of difference is necessary to create a new look for the character and not repeating the same content from the clone wars

I knew way before Book Of Boba Fett released he would have to be redesigned if ever was brought into live action. There is a battlefront 2 mod out there that uses the Duros in game and it doesn't feel like Cad Bane, more so a Duros in his outfit, so when seeing him I didn't take much issue and I think making him look less Duros was the right move. A fan film did release a few weeks after BOBF which they were working on a year before Cad Bane's appearance in BOBF and were making the final touches when he did make his debut. He definitely looks more Duros there however they still had to drive away from the original Duros design to give him the feel of Cad Bane. Duros also don't strike me as a species capable of much facial movement or expression so I think both the BOBF and fan film takes were one of the only ways to do him practically while still making him feel like the character we all know and love.

The look of the character was never the point it’s the meaning and emotion that the character brings (I’ve seen the clone wars and I’m fine with the life action look)

Cad Bane's race DID appear in live action before the clone wars! His race appeared in episode 4 (cantina scene) for the first time!

I think the adjusted version is worse but the skin on the one in the show is way too pale looks sickly, maybe that was on purpose? I think they did a fine job with it tbh no reason to complain.

The nose is perfect, and the way the actor crunches it, it really portrays the sinisterness of the character; it makes the lines he speaks full of menace and malice, it's great. No nose = no emotion gets portrayed.

It is easy to take a great work that somebody else is done and tweak it and make it better. It's no surprise that somebody came along and figured out how to make something that in my opinion was pretty damned good a little bit better. So kudos to the crew that brought Cad Bane to live action and kudos to the person who showed it could be done a little bit better.

A similar situation is “Melon Head” (The Grand Inquisitor) from ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. We had a live-action look at how his species appears in ‘Revenge of The Sith’. In my opinion, there is no excuse for how poorly he turned out.

I grew up on The Clone Wars. My first Star Wars movie I saw in a Theater was with my Dad and it was the Clone Wars Film. With that being said, I am 1000% in Preference to what Cad Bane appears as in Book of Boba the way he is. Other than the lighter skin tone I didn’t notice him looking “off”. Cad having a lighter skin tone and a plumper face make sense, he is 71. He was supposed to die of old age at like 65. And the mouth not being further down on his face is so he can talk. I had a hard time accepting Live Action Ahsoka having sort Montrals. But have come around to being ok with it. If they were to put the mouth far down on Cad’s face with CGI that would be like Ahsoka having CGI head tails or bigger Eyes like her Cartoon does. Cinematic captures having fun with stuff is fine. I prefer Cad the way he looks and sounds in both shows.

I definitely agree with your view on Bane's portrayal! I certainly think he looked good, but the poofy nose is definitely the part that took me out of it a bit. I wish the creators weren't as averse to using CGI or digital alterations to add on top of physical performances/costumes.

Honestly, i was expecting him to come to the show and my expectations for being exact in comparison to the Clone Wars version were very low, so i was very happy to see him in general. I’m just glad they didn’t change his voice like they did with the Pykes. I was very confused when we’re so used to hearing the sly voice of a Pyke being similar to a Trandoshan’s without the lizardy-quality, but we got this weird deep voice that matched the look of the live action version, but still didn’t sound anything like the original from the Clone Wars. I’m honestly surprised that more people aren’t upset about the voices of the Pyke Syndicate over the look of Cad Bane

I watched the clone wars s lot and was so excited, I was geeking then when he look up , my mind was in a confused state. I didn’t mind the off blue, made him look older, the thing that off to me was his mouth was so high on the face it was weird but I went with it. Then I saw the deep fake and was blow away. Still so happy the brought him in live action.

I have personally not watched clone wars, sorry, but I did watch bad batch and I enjoyed seeing Bane show up in it, it was a nice surprise seeing him, even though I hadn't watched any clone wars episode that featured him beforehand, I knew of his character and how much fans loved him, and now onto the boba fett series, I was not expecting Bane to show up at all, the minute he comes into clear camera frame I was like "holy sh*t, that's Cad Bane! Wow!". I was losing my mind. He looked menacing and the facial movement was pretty realistic. Something I admire about this Boba series is the amount of surprises that are in it, which made me enjoy it more, the sequel trilogy only had a few moments that actually surprised me but they don't live up to what Mandalorian S1-2 and Boba's series do.

I just think the age is a fine reason for why they look different, but cad bane could have had a fixed mouth and hat. The faded blue makes much more sense, considering he was out in the desert for a while.

4:54 I couldn't agree more. It's fan-art, and more importantly, it was worded as a "Rework!" Not a "fix" or "better version." The author's intent clearly was not to belittle. Also, I really would not give Twitter replies any credence. People will say all kinds of awful things on the internet that they wouldn't in person, and Twitter is the worst example of it.

I have watched the clone wars series all seasons at least 5 times and am a massive fan, and though I do agree that cad bane could use a few changes I honestly liked the look of cad bane with a lot of the characters which were re-imagined into live action i feel it gives at least me something new to look at, or at least I like the fact they didn't just do a straight copy and instead put their own live action spin on it. The teeth with Cad Bane I loved, gave him a new feature which would be hard to show with animation but is just again something new/gives fans something interesting to look at/analize.

I think a big problem with cinematic is that people framed him as someone who thought he was doing it better. I think both did a great job and the last problem i had was the smaller hat, we saw in Bad batch. And like you said the coloring is probably akin to getting grey hair

I’ve seen cad bane in every show he has ever been in , and I just don’t see why they couldn’t make cad bane look awesome and so similar, as they did with Luke Skywalker , to his clone wars and bad batch version. I think that the Book of Boba crew did not put much thought into not just his face , but his whole character. I think that the Videos and Tweets of Cad banes remasters are WAY better that the current live action design. I understand that the prosthetics Crew puts lots of time and effort into these things , but I definitely think that they could have done better. EDIT: They also really need to adjust the color. He needs to be more blue.

Clone Wars is highly stylized. It’s difficult to bring that stylization into live action. In my opinion the Clone Wars style would’ve looked a little strange in BoBF

I watched the clone wars and knew about Bane. When I saw him in Boba Fett I thought it looked a bit off but I just accepted it. I didn't really think about it until I heard about everyone freaking out online.

Soooooooo glad they went with the ghostly lighter blue. It matches his age, He’s like 71, most Doros live to like 65. He clearly is extending his life with robotic parts. They executed his character well. The acting was beyond epic. Everything was perfect. In fact he should have his own show. By far my favorite character and he doesn’t need no stinkin’ force ether.

I think the colour is fine. Look at mandrils (the real life animals) as they age their colours fade. This is also a very bright scene, we've mostly seen him in darker environments, where his face would look darker. The face shape could just be him gaining a bit weight over the years. I agree with the mouth and nose though. For the hat, the brim is clearly too small for it to be his old hat. If he comes back they could make a joke like in "The Box" where he kills someone just to get their hat, because he liked it better then his own hat.

I watched the clone wars and bad batch, and bane has been a favorite of mine since I was little. Seeing him in live action made my jaw drop. Then his face appeared and it threw me off and I honestly didn’t like it at first. But if I’m being honest it eventually grew on me and is honestly very very cool. I love the design. People cared too much, it’s a stylized cartoon and people need to realize that. Also his hat IS smaller in the bad batch cuz he looses his original one in TCW.

A part of me says, "Clone wars count dooku does not look like live action count dooku, so you cant expect everything to translate over perfectly" and another part says "he looks very different and not cad bane like" and I think both have some truth to them, because the clone wars does not focus on human anatomy when making a character and you cant expect a animation to look real in live action, but I do think they could've fixed a few things when making him

I just chalked up Bane’s animated appearance as merely a stylized depiction as opposed to an accurate one, similar to Dooku’s sharp beard in “Clone Wars” or Wicket’s appearance in the Ewoks cartoon.

The Cad Bane in TBOBF I guess to me just has less crime person energy in the expressions. Especially in the bad batch his expressions lean in to the fact that he is cruel simple business like he's a suave mafia person that executes his orders swiftly. He had cool handsome energy to it. I think this could be a similar situation to what if Kit Fisto was shown in modern live action. People prefer his tbh really overhauled sexy design in TCW.

As a person who grew up watching clone wars I don't mind the live action Cad Bane, I think he looks a bit goofy with the darker skin and Longer head. Yes he doesn't like a lot like Clone Wars Cad Bane, but none of the characters look that much alike with their live action counterparts. If they were to change him then they should flatten his nose and slightly increase his head length, Cad Bane is a bit of a weirder Duros anyway since his head is weirdly small for a Duros but then again I'm not a Duros expert.

I'm a little upset that cadd bane looked different but we gotta remember that it's a first take... and if cadd bane does come back I think they'll adjust him to loom a little better but I was still happy to see him in live action

I prefer Ahsoka Tano with longer head tails but again this is the first rendition of a cartoon character in live action. I'm excited to see what what they can do from here. Start wars evolves throughout the years. I do not like the sequels after the ending of The Force Awakens but even still cinematic changes. We eventually got The Mandolorian and fans like Shamook appeared to show what else it can be without a time crunch.

If you put Dooku side by side with his clone wars counterpart it makes sense that he looks different.

I think he looks perfect as a 72 year old cad bane, he mightve also gotten a less darker blue skin too avoid confusion with Admiral Thrawn in next season of mandalorian. Since both have blue skin and red eyes i think the casual fans might confuse the two.

I think it's the same like with Luke's face. The first time things are tried out and next time Bane will look a bit different again. Animation to life-action will always be a bit different. I have no idea why everything has to be made a huge issue.

I have watched CW Cad Bane, as well as Bad Batch. The live-action appearence was weird at first, but it grew on me. And now, I must confess that I like it and would be down to see it again.

I think the pale blue is just fine, no issue with it. It’s very fitting for someone who has aged. Now I understand they seem to be trying to stick to purely prosthetics just like the original trilogy. But it has never hurt to use a little cgi over prosthetics. It was easily done by a fan and it was done by Lord of the Rings back in the early 2000s when they enlarged the mouth for The Mouth of Sauron. I complained a little because I know you can easily do better. Al you had to do was lower the mouth a little, very simple.

Well, I am fine with the look and I am a big clone wars fan. Because at this point he is 120 years old equivalent to a humans age. And maybe in cannon now, the older the Duros get, they get paler and less elongated. At this point we have not seen him since what? a little after the end of the clone wars? I would be more confused if some alien we saw in clone wars came back after the sequels and looked young still. This is clearly intentional and it makes him a more experienced hardened bounty hunter, and I think the fight he had with Boba was fine because, just like with Darth Mauls Death, Both hunters are older and more wise, the fight does not have to drag out, I did not get into the deeper stuff like Boba killing him with the Gaffi Stick. I do think Cad Bane should have shown up earlier in the season.. And also his Death at this point in Star Wars would be fine, but with Cybernetics and other life stretching and saving things, he could be brought back to life, but since they already killed him off, its like bringing back palpatine, because Boba's Ark is done at this point. Maybe they can show the first duel they had in the Bad Batch Season 2, we already know it happened in cannon. Maybe we could Get an ENTIRE tv series starring live action Cad Bane set in the Empire era showing his relationship with Boba, and that tv show would have a flashback with the duel they had, and some longer flashback showing the entire deleted clone wars ark in live action would be great.

I kinda agree with you. TBoBF is a crazy mix between YEAH! and Why? Most of that is because of deadlines and priorities. I work in VFX and faces are really, really hard. I guess most of the available artists were working on Lukes face, that one had to be perfect. The alternative version looked pretty well too, great work. But he had the advantage to be able to work from the existing footage, that is a lot of help. Still a crazy amount of work. But Disney had the original Duro design. So i kinda expected thme to use that. Mostly i try not to worry and enjoy the show. Keep up the good work. And the Hat was way to small

I like them both, wouldn’t mind him looking updated, but I also started to think what if they made the humans look the way they do in the animated Clone Wars? They’d look fucking weird is how they’d look, because in animation everything is exaggerated, from how thin Bane looks to how wide the brim of his hat is. Like I said, I’d be happier either way. P.S. the Dollar trilogy are my favorite movies and his costume down to his smaller brimmed hat and the more classic to his guns in L.A. reminded me a lot of those films so I actually loved the changes to the costume and props. Just my opinion.

The character was modeled after an animated version, as you noted. The problem is that animated characters don't have LIVE ACTORS under their makeup. The only changes I agree with are making him a darker shade of blue and widening the brim of the hat. Other than that, I accept him as Bane. (pretty irrelevant considering he's now dead)

The Live action Cad Bane looks ok but if we're talking about the better depiction of the Animation the Fan made one is on point. Especially since we are getting Thawn in the next season of Mando the Fan made one would have made the two look less alike and less likely to be confuse one race for another. Ones a Duros and the other is a Chiss which is just a Blue Human.

He’s in his 70’s by the time of Book of Bobba Fett. For his species, that’s about how a human would look at 100.

Only issue to me is... The edit version has a bit of a small head to me compared to his body, The blue color isn't a problem to me since It's more similar to A New Hope, and Cad Bane is way older now around his 60s or 70s. Like when we grow old, our skin does become pale. I'd say the adjusted version looks the best in the close up scene, and I hope he does get to work for LucasFilms in the future. I got no issues with the original, but if some star wars fans have issues with it and want it adjusted, let them get what they want. The Dooku point of how he looks in the movies compared to Clone wars is a big difference on his head shape, I don't see why people need to have an issue with Cad bane's head shape in live action though.

I've seen all of The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Rebels so here's my thoughts on Cad Bane and a little on Ahsoka in live action. Cad Bane: I quite like the paler skin, it makes hi mlook older so I feel like it makes sense. I also don't care about the hat. A hat is a hat. He just has this one at the moment. I'm also not to bothered about the teeth, they could be better but they're not bad. The nose is awkward looking and could probably do with a touch of CGI to smooth it out. Same with the chin. My biggest gripe is how wide his face is. I can't imagine Cad Bane putting on enough weight to get a fat face. Ahsoka: Maybe it's just because I love Ahsoka so much (not like that) but I hate the short lekku and montrals. As soon as I saw it I didn't understand why they used a hat thing. It took me all of two minutes to come up with what I feel is a better idea. Have the Ahsoka costume work like a pull over hoodie. Sow the lekku down so they don't move and fill the montrals with light weight foam. Then they could be long and the lack of movement be explained as Ahsoka holding them down with the force so she doesn't accidentally hurt herself. These are just the thoughts of a simple internet going Star Wars enjoyer though. Make of them what you will.

I think for cad bane I don’t mind that the hat is smaller we see him use different hats in clone wars I do think the mouth and the blue coloring should have been changed to be closer to the original look of bane all that being said I still loved seeing him in live action for the first time

I think Cad Bane looks great, only with mouth being way too high. It gives him a weird expression making him look like Gary the Misanthrope. But overall I'm happy with his looks.

I never watched clone wars. I tried several time but can't stay interested, doI didn't know the character, and I really liked him. And when I see images of the animated show, the differences doesn't bother me at all. For the adjusted version, I'd say it's an impressive work, but I understand people reacting bad to it. It's because we got shit tones of videos on RU-vid claiming they're making better VFX than Lucas film by creating better fake of Luke, Leia etc... But they never aknowledge working with an already good job and putting a nice polish on it, I'm pretty sure they couldn't get the same result with initial rush. And so people are staying to be angry at any "fix" even when it's not due. I personally saw the image, rolled my eyes and moved on because I didn't care, as I said If don't know what was being fixed, because I didn't know the character. This undeserved hate shouldn't exist, but people spitting on professional cg artist being us some good moments shouldn't too. Funny, if nobody was mean in the first place, there wouldn't be a problem. Huh...

Cad Bane was my favourite character as a kid so I don't care about what he looked like in the show I just enjoyed seeing him

The character design of Cad bane was more inspired by the look of the duros (name of the species) in episode 4 in the cantina scene, with of course the characteristics of cad bane. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the design of the nose, but everything else, the mouth and the eyes didn't really bother me, the paleness was to show the aging cuz they have similar life span as humans and instead of wringles, their skin gets paler.

I was one of them it was a little bit upset about can bane's look, but looking at further I do understand why inside to give him a light blue skin and not the original blue. Because it tells that he is in older state, a old man. And the light blue represents it really well, just like a dog overtime his fur or hair turns White when it gets older and I didn't understand it and I'm not ready that mad about it anymore, but I won't lie face was a little bit weird looking since it was a bit small.
