Sam, I’m so glad you like this mic set! I use it at work for a university for lectures that we record. Even with the receiver at the back of the lecture hall, you can still pick it all up. It is so great! I love it and glad you do too!

I've got two and they are great. love them. only thing to keep in mind is that the digital sync is limited to only 8 (EIGHT) devices in one area. I haven't run into any problems with this yet, but if you go to a conference or other place where there may be a bunch of people with these systems and are doing video shoots, you no longer have discrete control of the channels like you would with the EW100-g3 systems. but the digital channel selection and the backup channels make this a great on the fly mic system. The digital signals is transmitted on two channels so if the receiver picks up interference on one, it'll use the backup channel. a game changer. get the charger dock for easy charging of the body packs, just drop it in at night and you're good for the next day. I use a phone battery bank as backup power for the receiver when I forget to charge. love these.
@samsheffer
@samsheffer 5 лет назад
thanks for the lengthy comment - yea, im not too worried about frequency / interfernce because i film most of my videos in the studio or on the streets of NYC -- but good to know. and smart re: battery bank. its cool that they charge over microUSB - you think its worth getting a second set of batteries just in case?
@TinkerWithUs
@TinkerWithUs 5 лет назад
@@samsheffer since having the drop in charger makes it so easy for the body pack, I don't worry about it anymore. also gives it a nice home to always know where the mic is and know that it is always charged when I pick it up. I think the body pack has like 14 hours active on a full charge, so unless I'm traveling, I don't worry about it on a daily basis. I also always have several of those small lipstick size usb banks in my bags in case battery gets low, but this is mostly for the receiver since its battery is so small.

Sounds very good. There’s a charm in stereo room recording though that is completely lost. The feeling of hanging out in a room is cozy. But this mic is very professional sounding and probably for the stuff you’re doing it should be really good. Looking forward to boosted board and that kind of applications.

You can actually adjust the gain. On the receiver there is a dedicated button which lets you adjust the output level. I love this microphone because of the small receiver. Thats the gamechanger! Apparently there is a small delay on the signal, about 12ms, because its transmitting trough a wifi signal, but i dont notice any delay when i look at the footage. So im super happy with this microphone!

It does sound great, especially as you are using it here, but maybe a bit “sterile” for some situations? I like the 3-D feel and directionality of the sound when a mic picks-up all the surrounding sounds and the ambiance of a location.

The AVX Microphones are amazing. Been using them almost daily for a while now. The unit you have on you lasts for about 15-18 hours on one charge. The Reciever on the other hand dies much quicker and it's best if you always have another reciever-battery on you.

I've had this system for two years and used it on run and gun documentary shoots in the overwhelmingly hot jungle in southeast asia. It's legit, however my pack failed at some point after a year of heavy use, but Sennheiser took care of it for free of course under the warranty. There's an even more expensive digital wireless pack system out there that's essentially bulletproof (audio limited A10), but this one does well. The MKE-2 lapel is right up there with all of the top-of-the-line lapels for professional work.

I will say that I've noticed the one downside to that lav mic and most lav mics is that it's picking up a lot of the acoustics in the mask of one's face, making your tone a bit more nasally than normal -- however that can easily be fixed with your standard EQ in the Adobe services, so I too endorse this purchase!

These kind of microphones have a lot of advantages, but I often don’t have time to wire my self. In an office / Desk setup I still prefer my shotgun mic on a boom pole / microphone stand. Outside and especially in very crowded places like events you have to monitor the wireless audio because of interferences. So I personally run a wired interviewer or shotgun on events, too. But if I have a proper interview situation in my studio or an office I prefer to use my wireless Rode Rodelink Kits. Two of them are cheaper than one of the Sennheiser Sets. Audio quality is solid, too. Only the sender / receiver packs are bulkier. Would be interesting to see a comparison of your Sennheiser set an the Rode Rodelink Kit. I think Sara or John has one.

Damn bro! $1000 though? Why so high? I was eye balling the Tascam DR-10L for $199. The only thing is that you might have to sync up the audio in post, but you can use it for so many different cameras. Don't get me wrong I still love my 80D, but what if I didn't have an audio jack like the 80D? then I'm stuck.
@gabbytj8219

Get the Tascam DR-10L, I have that now, it's worth it.. You can get a lot of tascam dr-10Ls for backup.. Then a Sennheiser MKE440 or Sennheiser ME66/K6 New with a Fostex DC-R302 used, it's the best thing in the world. Seriously best backups in the world. Always have two mics run and gun or even 3 mics in a sitdown interview.. I had rode and shure shotguns, not as great. My first was a rode videomic go, that was just the worst mic ever. :)

I'll stick with my Sennheiser EW 112 ' s. If you're ever in an area or situation that has multiple lavs being used, or signals that will interrupt your frequency - I think you're in trouble. I'm not going to trust the AVX MKE-2 to just automattically figure that out. Plus, auto-level adjustment for audio never works out right in post (editing). You'd have to constantly adjust the audio in the edit. Read the reviews on B&H before buying this and getting lost in the hype.

Just an aesthetic thing, some people like the Sennheiser lav sound better but some like the RØDE lav sound better. To my ear the Sennheiser one is a little distorted or buzzy on the top , (that's like the sound of an over driven guitar amp only really subtle and just at the highest harmonic frequencies of voice frequencies), and the RØDE is more open and spacious, but some people don't hear that at all. Have you had a chance to hear the RØDE?
@samsheffer
@samsheffer 5 лет назад
havent had a chance to hear the RØDE nah but sennheiser is right up there as a competitor and was looking for something dead simple, idiot proof, and i found it im not sure most people that watch my videos even care about the nuances of audio sound, but i appreicate the comment patrick i gotta test that RØDE setup now :D
