Here is a wonderful example of a 1994 Toyota Hiace van with the new powerhouse engine, the turbo diesel 1KZ. A engine that simply revitalized the platform and offers day and night driving experience to the older 2.8l 3L engine. This one has a 1 owner history in Japan, where it was used and maintained regularly. It features the powerful 3.0 Liter 1KZ turbo diesel engine mated to an automatic full time all wheel drive drive train, comparable to a Toyota Land cruiser. It is an 8 seater, with the middle bench rotating 360 degrees, so you can face forwards or backwards.

What is the point of a constant 4x4, it is not a 4x4 that can get out of sand or mud if you can't lock the hubs.

I’ve got one of these, it looks way shitter than this one but it’s just as good internally, I’m gonna take it on a road trip around Australia when I turn 18, just a couple more months to go.

I'm in NZ with one of these. An auto. Did about 70k in a manual Hi/ Lo ratio 2.8L up the Stuart Highway and a variety of roads east of there. I haven't got a clue where you are at with mechanical things etc but I have a few tips here if you are interested... You will likely find most after market parts suppliers don't list these unfortunately. Some have one or two parts of a set etc if you are lucky. Toyota has most thing at a price of course. Make sure your cooling system is in A1 condition. Make sure your auto gearbox & diffs get an oil change and along with front prop shafts, wheel bearings and universals are all adjusted up and in good nic. They have a few bits that are a little tricky to obtain decent replacements for: tyres (215/75 x15) I was using some cheap ones but have now gone with BF Goodrich K02. I think they should be better and tougher. Consider the weight and centrifugal force as they're bigger and heavier than standard and therefore load up various components differently. Have a couple of spares and use the BEST ones on the diamante highway. Suspension: Torsion front with some adjustment but to my mind they need more rigid units. I haven't found anything of the sort out there. So choices are get someone to make a set or see if an after market hilux set fit.... Rear has a lot of rubber. I replaced the trailing arms with genuine rubber on advice of nolothane experts. Supposedly they will probably last longer. I got nolothane for the swaybar hangers and I've had to pack out the genuine D bushes as they never fitted snuggly for some reason. I've replaced the springs with +30% after market units. They were supposed to be same height but are slightly taller - all good. Shock, I've tried a few and will probably go adjustable Ranchos next set. Electrics: There are many relay units located around the van. At the minimum buy a test light and good multimeter. I've fitted out a dual battery set up with Redarc. I think it was worth it for me. Watch your cabling size and routing and watch for bare terminals. The last thing you want is to smoke your van in the middle of nowhere :) Even though it's a 4x4 it still has fairly limited ground clearance. So a plan for getting unstuck is worth thinking about.. Wasn't planning a long reply so that's something to go with for now. You must be just about packed and out the door! Take care :) Cheers & have fun

@@WomBatVIC I wish I had one, but being 14 in the uk is difficault because I can't legally drive and I don't know the import rules. And I want a manual.

@@kowalski7086 fair enough Jayden. They're a neat versatile vehicle, you should also investgate the negatives, limitations and cost before getting one. They do have limitations in part's available to modify /upgrade and that torsion front suspension sitting under the door is a prime example. If it was a strut, coil /shock pair or leaf spring set up you could probably more easily modify or find after market parts to fit. Generally in Australia they make many well performing durable aftermarket parts for 'standard' utility vehicles that do many thousands of tortuous kilometers but the hiace is not one of those vehi cles unfortunately. Manual is great if you can find a decent one. Aside from being able to bump start one if the battery is dead they are also fun! :) I just spent yesterday afternoon driving my 2L manual Subaru around some country roads before I advertise it. I very much enjoyed it. Above I mentioned some rear suspension work I did on my van. I did that becaue it was not handling well. In fact it was down right dangerous and it was really only my skill and experience that prevented me having a couple of serious accidents in it. I don't know that it would be a good thing for an inexperience person to be in that situation. I put faith in our national "warrant of fitness" system for experts to tell me when there is a serious problem with a vehicle, but in this cae they failed me at least twice. It came down to me eliminating possibilities... So I guess the bottom line is you need money to keep these things in top condition (read safe! :) ) so at your age I would suggest keeping up with your school work in an effort to get your life off to a good start. You are at the most exciting part of your life when the most possibilities exist, if you make good decisions in the next ~6 years you can have a rewading life. Unfortunately us blokes are well known for having testosterone get in the way of good decisions through the teen years. So good luck with that :) If you are interested, talks by Jordan Peterson are good. He has some very well thought out concepts. One thing I would suggest is try to avoid frivolous stuff and don't get into drinking lots or smokes. If I had not drunk so much when I was 14 I could have been an actual rocket scientist! Lol Sorry, I could go on and on about this topic but looking back from my now 60ish years I see your age as a pivotal time with that potential existing. I can't do much about my path now but I can remind you that the world is your oyster... Oh, and driving... putting in some time on a big flat & bit slick concrete area in a rear whel drive car finding the limits of traction and what happens when you push steering hard is a useful learning experience some time. There are many things about driving that it is possible to learn but as with many things including "school" education it's a progressive / cumulative thing, you learn the basics then build on that existing knowledge. Have fun! (Edited to fix spelling mistakes. Phone keypads! :) )

@@WomBatVIC Well I plan on getting a decent grade in maths and english, science is a maybe sort of thing and I’m definitely going to get a qualification in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. I want a 4x4 3.0L Turbo Diesel. With the 2 small moon roof things at the back. But of course, being a person like me I’d prefer to drive with a manual transmission. Manual driving is more interesting for me. Even though I don’t drive yet. I know the manual gears and to proof it I’m going to explain it. For example, a hill start. First, you make sure your foot is flat down on the brake, pressing the clutch down and shifting into 1st, then gently lifting up your foot from the clutch pedal until you feel the “clutch bite”. Keep your foot on the brake until your ready to release the handbrake and accelerate forwards gently with your foot ready to brake if need be. And that is how you shift gears. (Obviously no need for handbrake on a highway lol). The 1994 Mitsubishi Delica L300 Star Wagon Diesel Turbo Manual Transmission 4X4 Is my dream car. Along with a 1994 Toyota HiAce 4X4 Diesel Turbo 3.0L Manual Transmission. Looking forward to when I become an engineer when I’m older and can buy these two amazing vehicles. My dad had the L300 Star Wagon and the L400 Space Gear Manual Transmission. And if I ever get enough money, I’ll get the L400 to the collection. Sya!!
