I thought he was probably going to win anyway because tyson very obviously isn't taking his training seriously the past year at least, and he never seemed to get a handle on short, quick, and technical southpaws, but it was really the Rummy seal of death that pushed me over the edge.

@ivanjulian2532
@ivanjulian2532 8 месяцев назад
I honestly think Tyson Fury has the old school skills (both clean and dirty) to have beaten any heavyweight of the last century - except prime Muhammed Ali/Cassius Clay. 1967 Ali was so dazzlingly fast, with his feet AND his hands. I just don't think Fury is all that fast nowadays... indeed, I would argue all three Wilder fights were sloppy fights and Fury is sloppier now than ever. But 1967 Ali all night long was constant motion, stinging like a bee. And that's Oleksandr Usyk all over.

Your mistake is that you are basing the effect of Fury’s grab-and-lean tactics on other fighters, with the effect they will have on Usyk, who is by far the most elusive, slippery, quickest and most agile opponent he has ever faced. Usyk will already be on his way out of the side door before Fury leans on him, and has the reflexes and athleticism to punish him on the break. You make a big deal of Fury’s will to win but don’t seem to attribute the same quality to a Usyk, who has razor sharp focus both in training and in the ring, has won all of his professional fights convincingly, and always comes fully prepared, whilst Fury’s preparations and performances have been erratic. Fury tends to lose condition between fights and has to waste time and effort to shed flab before his camp can really begin; Usyk lives the life and maintains his condition the whole time. Despite the size difference, although there were not so many clinches against Joshua, Usyk showed impressive strength and inside fighting ability and shrugged off Joshua’s attempts to overpower and lean on him. But above all, believe the key to this fight will be Usyk’s footwork, reflexes and balance; he will be moving constantly in all directions and landing punches on Fury from angles Fury has never had to deal with before. Meanwhile, Fury usually needs to land a number of clean punches in succession to get a stoppage, and given the elusive target that Usyk presents, the chances of Fury landing that many shots in succession are minimal.

@Bevzthejcs
@Bevzthejcs 8 месяцев назад
I agree with most of this, and i used to think Fury's physicality would win over but the more i watch Usyk the less i'm convinced. As far as i can tell Usyk is far fitter than fury and can truly work for 12 rounds, Fury always needs "rest rounds", i don't think Usyk will give him those. A lot has been said of Fury's ring IQ and it is true he really can think on his feet but i've seen Usyk completely change his style so fast between rounds it's like watching another boxer; the later this fight goes on, the better it will be for Usyk. If anyone can figure out how to deal with Fury's style it'll be Usyk. Lastly, i think Usyk's determination is greater than Fury's. I think it'll go the distance with Usyk winning on points, but i think both men willl be dropped during the fight.

Rummy you're going to regret that prediction I think. Here's why: Fury is over rated. He was never rated highly or even that seriously until he danced around an ageing Wlad for a 3-4 pts victory. He tried to do the same to Wilder and still won (in my and most people's eyes) in their first fight, but it was so close to going the other way. Sugar Hill gave him the perfect training and plan in the second fight, and the third fight, regardless of how exciting it might have been due to multiple knockdowns, he looked pretty terrible imo. His best recent performance was against Whyte, who he controlled, and blasted out with ease. But how good was/is Whyte really? Uysk is the (new) real deal. One of the most gifted and skilled boxers p4p in the world today. He and his team always have the right plan and are capable of switching it up multiple times during a fight if necessary. A mid range Usyk will make Fury look silly. At long range Usyk will time even herky jerky Fury and make him pay. At close range where people think Fury will win the fight from leaning and grappling and hitting behind the head, Usyk will slip away and not allow too many, if any, clinches. His feet are that fast and he knows that is how he loses the fight. Fury doesn't punch hard enough to hurt Usyk with a single shot (even to the body), and he won't be able to land enough to accumulate significant damage. Usyk will be landing his pot shots to Fury's big head every round and that will tire fury as will the pace Usyk sets and somewhere down the stretch I wouldn't be surprised to see an ahead on the cards Usyk just beat down Fury to the canvas. Fury will probably retire afterwards, as it won't be close, and a rematch will be pointless. The great Manny knows his stuff, but he didn't foresee Uysk when he said that Fury will reign supreme. But who knows? Maybe I'm not Quasimodo either ;)

All jokes aside, I think I’m picking Usyk. I don’t think Fury has ever fought an opponent with the skill or ring IQ of an Usyk, it’s gonna present problems for him. Fury has all the physical advantages over Usyk, but the same could be said for Joshua, who was thoroughly outclassed by him during both fights. It also depends on what version of Fury we are gonna get, and there is a 9/10 chance we aren’t gonna see the best version imo

I agree with the Usyk pick, he truly is formidable and his record speaks for itself. Having cleaned out the entire cruiserweight division inlcuding mairis briedis and then moving up to heavywegiht and seemingly doing the same. In terms of ring IQ and skill, Usyk really has taken the steel sharpens steel approach which I cant say the same for Fury. My biggest gripe with Fury, whenever I take a look at his record I just think who has he really beat worth of note to be considered as world 1#? the most notable name that comes up is of course 39 year old klitschko who was on the brink of retirement anyway who subsequently got taken to the cleaners by AJ. Sure, he took out WIlder 3 times who before Fury, was pretty much unknown as a heavyweight outside of the US (his record is also questionable).

In retrospect, why did Fury’s camp think Ngannou was an easy matchup? Did nobody think that maybe a former UFC HW champ might be good at nullifying Fury’s clinching/wrestling? I just think the biggest issue is Fury not taking training seriously. Not necessarily taking a fighter lightly, but I think he loses motivation to actually put his heart and soul into the gym. His weight fluctuates, and I think that had a lot to do with his style changing. BUT if Fury is going to take training seriously for any fight its this one, and if he comes out in Tip-Top condition with a good game plan I think he can take home the w. And by KO

I agree rummy, im going with fury here. (Obligatory ngannou fight thoughts here. I dont think tyson trained all that hard contrary to what he said. I think he expected to wear him down with his weight in the clinch. But francis is pretty close in height and is solid as a brick. Plus mma clinch is way different than boxing clinch. In boxing that is a moment to sneak something in, while an mma fight can spend their entire fight there) Back to usyk, i think tyson will be back on point here. His main strength has always been wearing his opponent down, whether that was by using his elusiveness to make fighters whiff, or by using the smothering kronk style. The scale has tipped much more to the latter lately, but i think he has enough of the former left in him as well. At the end of the day, as technically sound as usyk is, i just dont see him pulling it off. He doesnt have enough one shot power for a quick ko, and fury is a little too unortodox style wise to build an early lead imo. But what do i know, i aint no quasimodo myself 😂

I always thought that Fury is gonna beat Usyk, but... Since he's the favorite, he should of done this fight a year ago or so. Makes me wonder if maybe Tyson sees something in Usyk, that he isn't that keen to just get on with it.

I find it hard to see usyk beating Fury in theory.. BUT Usyk has a warrior mentality he comes to win he’s very skilful and surprisingly tough, he’s not scared of a bit of a brawl if Fury wants to get dirty which he will at some point.
@glynhannaford7332

Great analysis Geoff. I cannot fault your reasoning. To my mind, in terms of pure boxing, Usyk wins every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Therefore Fury has to win ugly to have any chance of winning at all. Clinches are the key for Fury. If he can grapple, lean and rag doll as he did in Wilder ll & lll, Usyk will tire quickly. Fury also uses illegal strkes on the inside, elbows, forearms (Cunnigham), headlocks etc. So Usyk has to avoid clinches. Usyk's ace card is his lateral movement. That's how he avoided Joshua's power game for 24 rounds. Can he avoid the "charging hippo"(😂) for 12 rounds? I hope so!

Fury tries leaning on Usyk one of two things happen over and over. 1. Fury finds himself leaning into fresh air ( ever tried leaning on a cat?) 2. He will lean into a few of usyks stabbing underrated right jabs or worse sling shot straight lefts. Fury will have no answer and maybe get stopped late.

I had it 8-4 with Usyk winning the last four rounds against Chisora. Even Usyk-Dubois was competitive for the first 4.5 rounds until Usyk took over. Both AJ-Usyk fights were very close until Usyk managed to win the Championship rounds. I just feel Fury can maintain the pace and intensity for 12 rounds. He will not also allow his nervous energy to be depleted. He knows what he needs to do. If he cannot defeat Usyk in the first fight, he will not do it in the 2nd. There is no need for a rematch as the same holds true for Usyk. Fury by late round TKO!

I agree that Fury will win. The simple truth is Fury can hit harder, has proven he can take serious punishment and get back up, and is a better boxer than Joshua. Usyk can't counter Fury's size and weight unless he prevents the clinch period, and that simply is not going to be possible. Fury has any number of ways of stopping Usyk from finding a rhythm. Superior reach, just weird jerky nonsense and playing hard to get, forcing a clinch and using his weight, mixing up his punches, etc. The biggest thing is Fury has to feel humiliated after his last fight. He knows his legacy took damage and he has lost massive respect. I don't care how much you think he is just "in it for the money", professional athletes have real ego's and a lot of pride... especially at the top level. He is going to be extremely motivated to train properly, have a real game plan, and silence his critics in this fight. Meanwhile Usyk.... is just motivated to win for all the same reasons he would be motivated to win any given match. This just feels personal for Fury, and normal SOP for Usyk. But it is boxing, you never know what will happen in the moment. All it takes is one lucky punch that the ref doesn't immediately flag as a low blow.

Yet I will not be surprised if Oleksander beats him again . I think he's great . Thank God Bivol beat Canelo back down to his real weight class , so he didn't try and fight Usyk at Heavyweight .

@@RummysCornerWhat a great fight. Fury's clowning around just infuriates me (no pun intended). All respect in the world to Usyk -- I just wish he would have put Fury away so there was no question. Amazing the whole fight came down to a single point that separated SD for Usyk from a Draw (if Round 9 was scored 10-9 instead of 10-8, if my math is correct). To me, in a 50/50 fight, the battering in Round 9 where fury was literally saved by the ropes, the bell and the ref was the deciding factor .... the RIGHT man won tonight. Looking forward to the rematch ---

You missed a couple of key points. * Fury is afraid to go inside because he doesn't trust his defence * Fury is wide open to left hooks from southpaws * Fury relies on posting and running away, Usyk uses this as an entry * Fury can not wear down Usyk by leaning on him as his cardio is too good

The mistake in your assestment is believing Fury will be able to lean on Usyk the same way he did on Wilder, Usyk has fast feet and great footwork, that won't work like it did on Wilder who's got two left feet.

@@Theactivepsychos Nah I have eyes that see is all. Fury is highly overrated most of the credit he gets for being a devastating mauler is from beating a one handed one punch fighter with no feet who knocked him down 4 times. he is going to get dominated he is less skilled slower hands and way worse foot work on top of being weaker both mentally and physically the only advantages Fury has is he is taller and heavier and uses dirty tactics better his mobility is gone and all that is left is a large man with awkward frame and little to no punching power he isn't going to be able to just lean on him like he has done with his recent opponents the footwork gap is waaaaaaay to big. And all the proof I need was in his fight with Francis he got timed clean with a left hand and dropped by a man who hand never boxed a round professionally in his entire life. You can believe what you want but it's painfully obvious to me what will happen in February.
