Richard said : train your employees so they can get a job anywhere. Treat them so they don’t want another job somewhere else. I’m paraphrasing but soo true!
so many companies treat staff as numbers and there to do as told this promotes nothing to a worker, so Virgin treating people proper will get staff who will go the extra mile rather then i am here for the paycheck. companies who dont realise the reason they are successful is because of the STAFF, piss of the staff and your company will go down hill. lucy, i am shocked to hear that virgin are doing the right thing and i hope you will be very happy with them also was that your cabin? looked as good as a passengers
Sounds like some cruise companies are really slave ships. I was horrified. I'm so glad Virgin is doing a better job. I don't like casual dress so the staff wearing t-shirts means I will never book with Virgin cruise. A polo shirt and causal pants ( not jeans!) would be just as comfortable...all the other stuff though I hope all cruise companies rise to the occasion adopt Virgins ways of better treatment.
Virgin sounds like they’re more concerned with performance and less concerned with appearance which is absolutely amazing in every aspect. They sound like they would be a fantastic company to work for. I’m amazed.
So refreshing to hear these great policies that diminish the old “social classes” and promote happiness and healthy living in all respects, mentally and physically. It’s about time tbh someone started treating crew with legit respect. Thanks for this video!!
hi there. I enjoy your RU-vid content. I am doing a transatlantic cruise on gallant lady and wanted to know how can I cast my phone content on suite TV. I will have the upgraded Wi-Fi for streaming but wanted to have my Netflix etc cast over to the TV. I was told that I need to bring a Firestick or Chromecast dongle to coonect to TV HDMI. Also, to bring a universal TV remote to change TV input to HDMI. Have you or do you know anybody who has tried it successfully? thank you so much. AGAIN, LOVE YOUR CONTENT. KEEP IT UP.
I just came back from sailing with Virgin Voyages and I could 100% feel everything you said. The staff does look happier. The staff does have personality and let it shine. I love to see that and as a sailor it definitely have a big positive impact on my overall experience on the cruise ship! Bravo 👏
My first cruise with Virgin is on Valiant Lady in April. I’m very much looking forward to experiencing something different. I am extremely pleased that Virgin is also taking a more progressive attitude towards staff conditions and pay. This video will live with me when I book my next cruise since I want the staff on the ships I cruise upon to be treated as I would want to be treated in my work. Staff welfare is paramount and ethically we should be looking at cruise lines treat their staff as part of the process of booking. This is a great video which really highlights my ignorance of how crew are treated.
If I found out a certain cruise company or any sector really treated their staff like crap I would not go back again because I'm not going to be a part of that. I'm upset and I've heard you say it in many off your videos (yes I've been binge watching your channel as I'm in hospital with pneumonia) that you had to pay for water which is a basic human right. I can imagine lining up each week to get it takes valuable rest time nevermind carrying it back to your cabin. From everything you say I think Virgin is the only one who genuinely care about their staff and want to retain the staff they have. I'm very boring so I love being around different people who are unique so the fact that you can be your real selves I a huge bonus for people taking the cruise. 😊
Love it! WE noticed that the employees seemed really happy and that they seemed to be more like family than employees. They interacted with the passengers, dined in the same places, worked out in the same gym. It was great!
Lucy, We were on Scarlet Lady - from Portsmouth earlier, and noticed the really refreshing feel and vibe of the ship and crew, watching your comments I see how some of the ways Virgin have selected and treated their crew has paid off. As a paying 'Sailor' I never felt anything other than welcome, people were genuine, and helpful. So much different than the "your in the navy now" of other lines - and their rigid almost Raj hierarchy of staff. I hope you continue to enjoy your time with Virgin. We were sufficiently impressed that we have booked onto Valiant Lady next year. The price looks a little high - but Id rather pay an honest price and see happy well paid staff.
Delighted for updates. Great to hear Virgin Vovages appear to be giving their crew liveable wages. I hate the North American tipping culture. Just pay decent wages.
ive watched quite a few videos since finding your page yesterday and i must say you make me wish i was still in my 20s so i could hop on this job and truly enjoy work for once and see the world.
Wow Lucy Virgin truly sounds like the ONLY cruise line I could ever really work for. Thank you so much for all that info that’s amazing and I hope it transfers to the cruise world at LARGE! Enjoy your first sailing!!! ❤️
Hi Lucy! I'm now in the process of submitting my application for a job with Virgin Voyages and your videos are truly helping and inspiring me to make it work! Thank you for that and for the way you communicate :)
Imagine a super luxury explorer yatch, where there is no guests. The whole ship belongs to the crews, owner is the capt, and he treats everyone as family. All the luxuries are for the crews and everything is free. Welcome to HMS the great Memnon.
Good to hear about ranking system abolished in virgin. Ranking system gives a crew an entitlement. Also a separate staff and crew mess it kinda feels like a discrimination for me.
This is so lovely to hear and probably explains why the best flight I ever took was Virgin Air. I told the flight attendants that I didn't want to get off the plain. I enjoy travel and I enjoy luxury, but I don't like the feeling that any human has to behave obsequiously towards me in order to make a living. Well done Virgin.
Nice to hear that things have changed since my days as a shoppie!!! It makes me want to go back work in ships, but maybe a bit older than the average shoppie age. Really enjoy your videos!! Cheers from Montreal!!!
Hi. I just searched for videos about the company, because it is so new. We don't have many information on that yet. I'm from Brazil and I've worked to other cruise lines before. Right now I'm approved for Virgin and also for Celebrity Cruises, and I'm very confused about which of those should I choose! Thank you for this video, it helped me create an idea of what the company is like. Sounds amazing, but I think I wanna take a look on how this is gonna be first. Hope things continue like that! Wish you a good contract! Enjoy.
It makes me so very happy to know that Virgin treat their employees with such respect & that they invested way above & beyond in the facilities, food, amenities etc for you all. It has always been a dream to go on a cruise but dodge health resulting in having to retire under 40 doesn't allow funds for a night away never mind a cruise but if I'm ever fortunate in the future it'll be a Virgin Voyages and no other. I always had the attitude of if you don't look after your staff you don't get the very best from them, and rightly so. All of those I was responsible for gave more & more with the healthy work environment, approachable management-- constantly conscious of their wellbeing, encouragement, reasonable tasks/deadlines etc. Absolutely everyone is equal & I hope more & more companies take a few leaves out of Richard Branson's/VV book! 🤞 You have such a great way about you,I can see you going far in your career and with the attitude/opportunities VV have the sky is the limit! Go get 'em! 💪🏆💐
not to sure about that TBH ok great that everyone talks to each other BUT the captain deserves every respect going they are highly trained very experienced and holds the life of everybody on board that to me is very scary
@philiprice7875 and they cab get that respect by eating with the rest of the staff and crew. They aren't disrespected by experiencing equity with their coworkers.
I'm thinking of cruising and it's great to hear virgin are with the times regarding internet tattoos and the crew mess, I have blitzed a lot of your posts I enjoy seeing what life on the sea is like, thanks for posting.
Maybe too good to be true. I understand after this video some things changed, and you decided to quit. Anyway, your cabin is amazing ! that´s a huge change!
Wow, this is impressive. I wonder if any of this will spill over to other lines. I'd think if Virgin are successful, it would have to for at least some lines.
Curious how it will be when the ship is back in service. Things like food quality might change slowly. Quick promotions is something I can’t see happening that fast. Imagine that a lot of people get promoted after one contract. Then very soon you will have like 8 dining room managers 5 spa managers etc etc. On all other cruise lines it is not really about now wanting to give promotions, it’s also about availability. And if virgin voyages is as amazing as they say it will be, then no one will be leaving and there won’t be spots available for promotions at all ? I don’t know, it’s just something I was thinking about.
Hi Lucy, thanks for this video. Let's hope other cruise lines will follow the steps. Enjoy your contract. Please do update us how it's is going. Best of luck from Mauritius 🇲🇺
Thank you Lucy. I love your videos. They're getting me excited for my next cruise in December. So happy you're being treated so well. We're friends with a lot of crew we've met on our cruises and we know they deserve better and work very hard.
Gigi Gigi Nice to hear that Virgin is a company with character. I have a family member that was a dancer on a different companies ship, the crew was not treated well at all.
had a disney cruise ship come to liverpool local paper interviewed a crew member and she said "this is my dream job" i commented i would hate to live your nightmares
Hi Lucy you should do a vlog if possible at work in your department cause that would show how you prepare for the day ahead if there were cruisers onboard
Haha, I might work on a crew ship later in life because I don't have any experience now. But your British accent is addictive. Just watched every single video to hear you talking 🤣😂
Good evening Lucy just wanted to say oh my god what a beautiful video you explain things so clearly and very understandably I believe you should be the spokes person for virgin you explain it so well so clearly and so understandable you’re awesome I love you Hope to see you soon and I do wish you the very very best I’m so excited to look forward in your videos so please continue to make the best cruise line virgin videos that she can make love you dearly hope to see you and speak to you
Ok, so the crew mess on Virgin sounds amazing, somethings you get for free we also get for free on Disney as well. We got given reusable metal water bottles to fill up at water stations. Same as free laundry detergent, however, wasn't the best, however, career progression in my department was pretty much forced because the way it was seen the longer you've been onboard the more responsibility you take on. Also can you please show the crew mess if you're allowed?
Out of curisoty do you get told that Virign don't own the cruise ships. its cruiseships actually owed by Bain Captial and Virgin just brand the ships. Which mean at any point Bain Captial can get rid of ships and replace with a different brand. Virgin also don't control price of ships either and design all done by Bain Captial
