Why was Led Zeppelin BANNED in 2 U.S. Cities? | Tragic Ending to 1970’s infamous rock tours

Led Zeppelin’s infamous tours turned them into the Rock 'n' Roll Riot Makers of the 1970s. As Led Zeppelin’s concerts broke attendance records across America, the band was dismissed by critics, while gaining a reputation for unprecedented debauchery, thanks to tales of chaos that followed them (sometimes true). The mayhem of their concerts, and the grueling schedule keeping them away from home and family are part of the reason why the biggest-selling group of all time could not continue on.

I was at the Tampa concert. I got over it. Some people didn't.

I followed many bands back in the day - cause that is what teens did. Zep fans were always overly rowdy in a mean destructive way, Dead fans just wanted to dance and groove - totally different scene.

I was at the Tampa riot, I was 17 and ended up sleeping overnight on the sidewalk and taking a Greyhound back to the east coast the next day.

I saw Zeppelin May 5th 1973 at Tampa Stadium on their 'Houses Of The Holy' tour. Ticket prices for the show were $5.50 in advance. $6.00 the day of the show. It was the most festive show I've ever attended. It was a beautiful sunny day. My concert buddy and I arrived around 2:30. As we were entering the walkway heading into the stadium the aroma of Patchouli and Maryjane came wafting thru the air and just hit us dead in the face. We just looked at each other and smiled. We had come prepared to party as well. As we came to the bleacher section just above the field, we saw people making human pyramids 3 and 4 people high. There were Frisbee's and Beach Balls flying everywhere. Groups of people were using blankets to toss (Mostly Girls ) into the air. Here are a few quotes from Robert Plant during the show. “Between us we’ve done something nobody’s ever done before,” singer Robert Plant told the Tampa crowd that humid Saturday night. “Tampa is the last place I would expect to see nigh on to 60,000 people,” Robert Plant would later say. The Tampa show was the second stop on the band’s 30-city U.S. tour, following Atlanta, which drew over 40,000 visitors. The set lasted several hours and included an intermission. Just before 11 p.m., Led Zeppelin ended with “Stairway to Heaven,” releasing hundreds of white doves. This show was a month before my 16th birthday. I've seen several shows at Tampa Stadium and this was the best yet, that is, until July 29th of '73 when I got to see Pink Floyd on their 'Dark Side Of The Moon' tour. That was a special day for me. It was a great time for Rock Music, and a great time to be alive.

The Song Remains The Same was the opening number on the ‘77 tour and not Nobody’s Fault. That song was the third song of the set. Now that I’m done splitting hairs, it’s really a shame this Tampa show got rained out. At its start you can tell (by hearing some other ‘77 gigs) that this night was gonna be special. They seemed really ON this night and again…such a shame it got stopped. I’ve also heard that during the Boston ‘75 debacle, someone threw a bottle down from the elevated railway platform of the Green Line and it caught someone in the face. I was told by someone there that it was this action that tipped the scale for Kevin White to cancel everything.

The last time Zeppelin toured was 1980, not 1977. The last American tour was 1977. And the '77 shows opened with The Song Remains The Same, not Nobody's Fault But Mine. What, you don't have any Zeppelin bootlegs?

Jimmy page had everyone do the spells to make them the most successful band. Robert plant had 3 car accidents, his son died and John Bonham died. Robert plant said enough.

You may want to look further into details and do your homework a bit more, the biggest selling rock band of all time are the Beatles, not Led Zeppelin.
@phils3631
@phils3631 7 месяцев назад
Yes correct, they sold loads of singles, which zeppelin didn’t pander too. Both sold hundreds of million album sales.

@@phils3631 not just singles and i don’t know what you guys have against releasing singles, it’s a good marketing strategy. I was talking strictly album sales, the Beatles have sold more than anyone else. Led Zeppelin was just too into this thing of not wanting to promote their music, it’s a wonder they ever went on tour. They hated releasing singles, they hated tv appearances.

@@itslikethesamebutdifferent8020Their manager Peter Grant called all the shots as far as tv and releasing singles . The only reason singles WERE released was the recoycocompanies . NONE ever in the UK ‼️‼️‼️
