Great choice! Im sure the diesel motor in the sprinter van is reliable. Its the exhaust system thats going to croak WHEN its time. lol! They had to make the exhaust system complicated on those diesel engines, its basically killing itself.

Very helpful! Thanks so much! As a single traveler I’m thinking a 2500 36 would work for me! Love if you could do my simple build! Where are you guys? climbing a rock I’ll bet. My dad was a ranger in Yosimite and Sequoia! I know some property you could stay on in Wawona 😉💯🌈

This is a well done video that provides food for thought when considering selecting a van for conversion. My question is front vs. rear wheel drive. I once got into the situation with my FWD Rav4 where I was entering a dirt road from a paved road. The initial entry was involved a small bump and was slightly sandy and had a small amount of incline. The front wheels went over the bump and hit the sand patch and began to spin with no forward movement. The rear wheels were still on the pavement, so provided no push. Luckily I was able to back off the dirt road and onto the pavement. That was when I decided rear wheel drive might be better for even mild dirt roads. Your comment?

Normally front wheel drive is more reliable in all conditions do to the weight over the wheels. Though in your particular situation the only thing that would of helped probably would of been some more aggressive tires. Sand is always horrible. If it was a rear wheel drive it's possible that they may of started spinning as soon as your rear wheels hit the sand. When I'm doing U turns on some back roads I make sure that I never let my front wheels in the van leave the road so I can always pull my rear end back up. Same with a rear wheel drive you want to make sure your rear tires are on the road when making tight turn arounds so you can pull yourself back up. But if the road is icy and say you don't have a heavy build in the back then more of your weight is on the front wheels therefore will give you better traction.

@@pairofdrifters I really appreciate your reply. Makes complete sense to me...and yes, I had factory tires in the RAV4. I will keep your driving tips in mind from now on.

Just my thought traction pulling is better than traction pushing. When stirring wheels are pulling they are always pulling in the direction you are trying to go. Also with the motor weight in the front you have more traction. Now when you back up- going in reverse this swaps your direction and rear wheel may be better. For me I go forward most of the time . I prefer front wheel drive when I can get it.

I know this video was posted over 4 years ago, but I just want to point out that it's Econoline, not Ecoline.

@@pairofdrifters Thanks, although the Econoline/Club Wagon was renamed as the E-Series around the 1999 model year.
