Drew, I was a real estate broker…if there was a sellers disclosure and the leaks were not on there but it was obvious the seller knew, then take the bill to them. They are obligated to disclose every issue known to the house. You have recourse. The inspector should have caught it only if they inspected with the water on and the leak active.

Forgive me but I’m interested in how the inspection report didn’t list it? Aren’t they required to check the pipes? It seems like a big one to miss. I can’t imagine sellers often admit to hiding damage but you should be able to rely on an inspection? In the UK reports seem more in depth?

@@patsysadowski1546 he mentions in one of the videos that during the inspection they check horizontal pipes because those are usually the ones that cause problems. They didn't check vertical pipes or anywhere that was too hard to access. The original owners could have been oblivious but it doesn't seem likely with the extent of the damage. Definitely something to look into.

@@lizpeacebelle I agree it’s a lot. I wonder in a big place like that if they just used the soulless remodelled bathrooms? Leaving the lights but lying about the pipes seems at odds but who knows? Truthfully in the Uk we get a lot of rain and a full survey is always recommended with older houses here. Of course most homes are 150 years plus. We have Victorian pipe work finally failing all over London. Every pipe needs changing eventually and I would have thought it effected water pressure to the effected room and some pooling/staining. Anyway I’m rambling but I appreciate the answer regarding the vertical pipes.

Drew, if that pipe was visible enough during inspection and they missed it, you should have a warranty on the inspection that will cover some aspect of the repair or will at least give you a partial refund for that part of the inspection!! Our inspection came with a warranty that had a clause that if they missed anything like that, they’d refund the inspection or cover the repair, depending which cost was less

My parents sued the realtor,, when they found out they were not hooked to city sewer! There was a septic tank in the middle of the city that should have been taken out and changed 20 years before my parents bought the home!.. century 21,, paid for the sewer connection

@@retroredo9850 I’m a redhead too with curly unruly hair - doing some of the curly girl stuff has really helped! It’s a little trial and error though to find what works. Biggest thing was changing my hair towel to an old T-shirt of pillowslip! Edited to add - I know my profile picture has long straight ish hair but it’s old lol

My first house was an older one and we had a plumbing issue that was not disclosed by the seller. I know this video featured a cracked pipe but while the plumber is there ask about Orangeburg. Your house is older than the one I had bought but during war times, to save on materials such as metal, Orangeburg also known as tar paper was used to make pipes. The pipes in the house were pretty solid but the one taking waste from the house to the city was destroyed. Every time it rained, the pipe would fall into a peanut shape causing the water to back up in the shower, tub and toilets. I do hope you see this message. The plumbing world seemed to know about this stuff but not the consumers who fall in love with older houses. It ended up being a pricey repair...like over 6k.

Orangeburg pipe was used from WW2 through the early 70s. IIRC his home is from the 20s so its not likely there and wasn't used much in renovation work so hes very probably safe. Interesting you were aware of orangeburg. Few are. It doesn't deserve to be labeled piping really, gawdawful idea from the get go. It was primarily used for sewer lines from the house to street, less often inside.

@@edmessina8392 According to Wikipedia orangeburg piping goes back as far as the 19th century, so it’s possible Drew’s home might have it. It’s actually amazing how long a lot of it held up (but I wouldn’t want to find out my house has it!)

My dad was a painting contractor for 40 years...He always said to me that when you paint make sure you have a heavy amount of paint on your roller...you can paint an entire room with one coat if you don't let the roller run dry. He would always paint the rooms in my house for me in 30 minutes and one coat....I always thought it was like magic :.) Love your channel...I always look forward to seeing what you are doing next.

My dad was a painter to and he always said be generous with the paint on your brush and yes dont let it run dry. He was the same could paint a house by himself so quickly would of took me forever he died in 2018. I miss him so much

Sadly, what you see in one small area of your pipes is the general condition of ALL the pipes. You may want to re-pipe before you move in since water damage is the worst. We were faced with this issue in an older home so I share your dismay at the cost. I will just say, you got off cheaper than we did.

Good for everyone to know, inspections do not generally look at plumbing, they don't inspect in walls. It's always something like that in old homes. So happy you were able to go through the back side, great job setting your boundaries and putting your foot down, contractors and such can feel very pushy to do it the way they're most comfortable with. Awesome job!! And the lime wash looks amazing, I may have to try it in my craftsman home.

OMG that drain pipe! I have a friend who just bought an older house in a small town in Pennsylvania. Three floors, bathrooms on every floor. The old cast iron drain pipe from the 3rd floor bathroom was cracked like yours. They had to replace pretty much all of the drain pipes in the whole house. The homeowner is a young person who said "Look! I'm like one of only five millennial who owns a house!!" They are very excited, but expensive plumbing issues dampen the thrill, right? Thanks so much for showing us your hair! I've been curious about how you style it since I recently found your channel. It always looks so good (when you don't wear a hat LOL!) so it's interesting to see just how straight it is before you glam it up.

The new limewash color is GORGEOUS! Also loved the real color of the window trims... liked it so much that I'm thinking "is it really necessary that all the wood must match?". Like the ceiling, the stained glass doors trim and the shelves are all matching dark... maybe a lighter, warmer trim on the windows would be interesting, to add some warmth to the whole ensemble...

Just so you know, when using rollers like this, you want to make a W or diagonal shape to start so that you get more uniform coverage.

Love the paint technique you did - that's just what the walls need in that room to give it character!! I had NO IDEA that your hair was straight! It was fun to see you style it. Love the limewash; I had my doubts but it looks so soft and texture-y and pretty. Old houses are notorious for plumbing issues; you are smart to take care of it before you move in.

Oh the joys of home ownership! In old homes, you have to expect issues but the good thing is, once it's replaced, you're good to go for years....old homes were built with such quality which is hard to get with new homes unless you want to pay lots of money... I just love the old tile which usually gets replaced. So glad you're keeping it. The colors are odd but there are so many fabulous wallpapers out there that would make the tile look great! Good to see someone hanging on to the old "stuff"! I know your home will be a place of beauty when you're done!!

When you first time you mentioned a leak, I wondered why they couldn’t go from the other side. It’s awesome that fantastic original tile won’t be torn up! The marble you found is unreal-I had no idea there was marble with those colors. The paint color is gorgeous, too. I was with the Douglas fir trim, but some of the grain does look like oak.

What a bummer that I moved from CA when you probably weren't even born 😅 If you ever venture to renovate a house in TX, you’re welcome to try my house 😁I live in a beautiful 80+-year-old farmhouse that my husband and I are slowly renovating. Sowe know how scary it can be to dare to open a wall, whether it's to repair something, or make improvements to the house, because one always finds all kind of surprises. But it's so satisfying, so rewarding to renovate and return an old house to its glory. Congratulations on your house, it is really beautiful. How lucky you were the one who bought it, and not someone else who might not have appreciated or valued it ❤️

The wall color is PERFECT, and it looks so pretty against the dark ceiling. We have those cast iron pipes too...glad you got them fixed, and I hope it's not a lot! ❤

That wall is astounding, I couldn't believe it changed so drastically from a darker brown to that beautiful mottled shade of taupe, really love it. Wow shouldn't those problems have been found before the house was signed over. In uk we have to take out insurance so that if the surveyor misses something we can claim off them

It's so funny we've been painting walls like this with rollers for decades and the U.S seems to have just discovered them. I always looked funny to me, when they would go about with those wide brushes, we throw away first. Round brushes are the best for wood work. Rollers for large surfaces. Makes your life so easy.
