Jackson explains and demonstrates the technique behind a real, dirt-slinging roost. The misconceptions, form, and purpose of roosting are all dissected in this video. Roosting is something we started doing (or attempting) about 5 years back, and many of our friends have wanted us to teach them what roosting is or how to do it. It's definitely our favorite way to corner on a mountain bike. After walking people through the process so many times, Jackson figured we should just document it and release it to you guys! Being a super technical person, Jackson dove in and gave you guys the full technical breakdown.
Now, don't abuse your powers; there doesn't need to be C-shaped marks on every berm in the East Coast (Or West), but let those berms know who they are messing with! If this video helped you out or you enjoyed watching it, consider subscribing and hitting that bell to be notified when we post, it really helps us out! ✌ - Beny and Jackson

I've been shredding for 20yrs. Across America. I've watched all the vids. This. Is one of the best explanations of the nuances of schralping I've ever seen. Subscribed.

I was saying the same thing. Every other video somehow doesnt do a great job at explaining the feet position and rolling motions.

Great video. Thank you. I’ve been making the “unweighting” mistake. No wonder it seemed so janky.

would you recommend leaning into the turn more than regular cornering so the rear tire can slide up the berm easier?

For sure, the deeper the lean the better.

Been to Killington, Creek and Thunder probably 50x the past 2 years and still couldn't roost. Jumps, tech, drops, rocks I'm fine with, but berms are by far my biggest weakness. It's a lot different watching on RU-vid vs seeing it in person, cause I'm always afraid about going over the berm ... Anyway, built a berm in the woods to practice, and this video has been extremely helpful. Seen a lotta videos, and it's not easy to articulate, but this was definitely the most helpful. And would you be interested in doing a lesson for me and 2 of my friends at Thunder or Killington this season? I was thinking $300 for a half day, but lemme know if interested. Love the videos!

Does the fact I’m on a hardtail have anything to do with my inability to roost? Do you need knobby tires for optimal roosting? Great video btw

Take a look at 1:35...body weight so far foward almost crotch on stem...all the vids of how to do a roost don't describe what they are actually doing. He says, shift weight back, but in videos he's shifting his weight foward.
@ChildrenOfTheLoam
@ChildrenOfTheLoam 2 года назад
My bad, force is put through the back of the bike which shifts weight forward. That clip is also to a point of being so pitted that form kinda goes out the window.

Why is running lower psi cheating? I thought that running lower pressure gives more grip. Am i wrong?
@ChildrenOfTheLoam
@ChildrenOfTheLoam 2 года назад
Yes but there is a point where the tire will start to fold on itself and break free when it shouldn't

@@ChildrenOfTheLoam yeah, im currently riding on a XC bike (saving up for a proper trail bike) so my tires are pretty narrow and fast rolling. Tried 30 PSI this sunday and its definitely too hard for what im riding. im noticing less grip.

@@DarkauronCZ long travel bike is better for roosting. actually lower psi is not cheating i think.because everybody have different weight and need different tirepressure for roosting.i weigh 60kg and running 25 psi for roosting
