In this video I'll be going over a few of the reasons I think everyone needs to have a carpet python in their collection. These beautiful and amazing snakes don't deserve the bad reputation that they have. They're truly amazing and beautiful pythons.

So my carpet python doesn't wanna have mice, but will go instantly for a rat the same size or a bit larger. Gotta admin they always think, you can see them react to everything always. Mine is in a glass enclosure so has a view on the rest of the room. If I use the pc he will watch, like a camera 😁 At one point I noticed that the snake was waiting for feeding time, it was usually every 2 weeks, and on the weekend before feeding any of my snakes I used to vacome the room. And only the morelia noticed that after the human finishes the ritual with the noisy machine thing it's feeding time. Before I would have any rodents defrosting/giving out any scent, he was just waiting in the feeding part of the enclosure, ready. Based on me finishing cleaning the room.

Great video :) We've had our 4 year old coastal carpet for only a month now and we need more!! They are AMAZING pets, definitely needing a jungle next. They are just so hard to find in BC :( By far the most well mannered and easy going snake I've ever seen. On top of being able to view him daily exploring and basking, big yawns and adorable puppy dog face. Feeding him is so awesome, I just love how they use gravity to help consume the mouse and has yet to decline a meal. I would recommend carpets to anyone and everyone wanting a reptile, especially if they are 3+ years old due to the nippyness, but spicy personalities is also what makes this hobby so fun and keeps things interesting! :)

Thanks for watching Hayley! I know I’m super excited to be having my first jungle carpet clutch which is actually due this week. But there is nothing remotely close in my opinion that can match the beauty and the amazing was of a carpet. Like you said as well you get to see them a lot in their enclosure so they’re great to handle plus they’re normally out where you can actually enjoy watching them.

@@WarfelsMorphs Congrats and best of luck with your clutch! I'd LOVE to breed carpets one day, I'm just worried about lineage and researching soo much on how to tell purebreeds from crossbreeds. Any tips there? haha PLEASE make a video about your clutch's journey, I'm sure others would agree they'd love to see it too :)
@WarfelsMorphs
@WarfelsMorphs Год назад
@@hayleypura1181 I will definitely be putting updates on the clutch once it’s laid and hatches and so on you can count on that! As far as telling visually if something is pure that’s something that in my opinion is almost impossible to tell unless the breeder has full lineage on both sides. I only have lineage on one of my 3 carpets. I just want to make beautiful animals that I enjoy along with others. Lineage is cool and all but in all honesty it’s not a make or break with me. If I like the animal I like it lol.

Carpets are very well known for not going away from mice once introduced to them. You should feed carpets rats ONLY - they can eat rat pinks after hatching. The nutritional value is much better, not the other way around. No idea where you heard that nonsense. Additionally, rat bones are much softer and easier to digest which is much better for their digestion. I would suggest picking up Nick Mutton's book on carpets, hes the expert on them and its a fantastic book.
@WarfelsMorphs

Thanks for watching Jt. 2/3 of the carpets I own were started on mice and took a while to switch them over to rats. Took scenting and a lot of patients lol. I do plan on getting Nicks book here at some point.

From my perspective, she never once looked like she was even close to biting you in this vid. So I'd say you're doing quite well with her. Carpets are a little different to read. They'll do that "S" position very frequently as they're checking stuff out, extending way out then crunching back down. But it's different from an actual defensive posture. The eye contact is the thing I look for most. A defensive carpet will stare you down with laser beams. Regarding prey size, carpets can actually take HUGE prey. My male might be slightly smaller than her, and he takes large rats. I wouldn't have believed it before I started doing it... haha!

Thanks for watching Calvin! Xena has surly come a long long way from how she once was that’s for sure. As you said they are a lot different to read lol. I have 2 black & gold jungle carpets a coastal carpet, a het olive python and an albino olive python, an currently debating whether or not to get a scrub python .....love my carpets but I find my coastal and albino olive to be the most chill in my collection so far, my jungles and one olive get a small rat twice a month the other 2 are on large rats once a month..but then I've noticed rat size tend to differ between locations and sometimes even between stores in the same location...

@WarfelsMorphs
@WarfelsMorphs Год назад
@@karkatvantas9425 we don’t mean train like you train a dog. But by doing certain things like only feeding from one side of the enclosure as opposed to the other they will Lear and remember. Or touching them with a hook so they know it’s not a feeding. These are the things we are talking about with training. My big carpet girl knows exactly which side of the enclosure food comes in on and will sit there waiting and watching. Some snakes are actually intelligent. Carpets and retics are 2 of the smartest I’ve seen and heard of.

With Xena I trusted her to light me up several times per handling for a while lol. I feel like if you handle your carpet often enough they don’t bite at all.. mine is 3 now and it’s only bitten my ex girlfriend (super smart snake) and that was the first day I had it.
