Great video ! Also, Just wanted to hop on here and say don't waste your time looking for a TT engine! Keep an eye out and a deal will come, eventually. However, you'd save a lot of money by just boosting the NA, especially if e85 is near you. Thats the way to go. The NA is plenty capable of more power than you'd comfortably be able put down on the street with a proper setup.

Good video bud. I own a 94 and I’ve built it to 685 hp / 698 tq. Took about 4 years. It’s a phenomenal platform but you’re right. Not easy. Worth every penny though.

It's a double edged sword. If people were to start making in depth videos of how to modify vg30s, then the cars would become desirable and go up in value. Im perfectly fine with everyone ignoring them so it leaves plenty for me in the future 😂

I have a 90 300ZX Z32. Was my Grandpa's, when he passed no one in the family wanted to fix it. So I have been slowly, and I gotta say, driving it is such a glorious feeling.

1990 TT owner, i have had my Z since 2016 with all the breather mods tuned on E85 flex fuel on stock turbos pushing 460 wheel horsepower and 550 torque. The key to these cars is preventative maintnance. It is expensive to maintain however its worth it, thats why i purchased a second 300zx, a completely stock silver 1992 TT. The real Godzilla of the 90’s that landed in the U.S.

The lack of info out there is frustrating but I've inched my way to 540whp so far. I filmed myself doing a bunch of work on my car to try and contribute to the community but I suck at editing so they sit there :( maybe one day.

a lot of potential with this channel , maybe some audio work and a few tweaks here and there ive owned a few Z32s in the 90s and early 2000s turbo and na . if i were t get another it would be a na model to keep it more simple and be a nice cruiser . they do surprisingly well at -40f

1990 z32 for 10 years now swapped a tt haltech ecu did the basic deletes. Runs proper getting an injector upgrade eventually

5:31 400hp is very basic breather mods and a little boost on a VG30DETT with stock turbos. You get more power and torque mod for mod from a VG than you do from a Skyline RB26 and Its no heavier or more complex than the skyline or most other similar performance vehicles (e.g mkiv Supra). The V6 layout does make some jobs harder to do than other cars, but its really not a difficult car to work on, especially compared to more modern cars.

Built my VG30DETT bottom end in my living room. It’s great to see some people are putting the spotlight back onto the iconic masterpiece called the Z32 FairLadyZ. Nice video, young man.

VG30DETT owner here. Z32 is not relliabile but it's a fantastic car! Great video, telling the truth.

My first TT, a '93, dynoed 335 at the wheels in 4th gear with a mild remap, boost raised to 1 bar, and an exhaust. My 2nd TT, a '92, dynoed 408 at the wheels with 91 pump gas at 1 bar. JWT Sport 500 Turbos (the mildest turbo upgrade you could do), 555cc injectors (retrofitted the '95 harness so I could use the newer pintless injectors), intercoolers, exhaust, and boost controller. Occasionally ran 1.2 bar with 100 octane but never dynoed that.

You are so correct young man when it comes down to the z31, Vg30, z32, vg30ett 84/89 for sure. It's like no one has love for these engines or cars WTF. Yes i have 87 z31 been going at it for 3 years or more and almost have decided to scrap the entire project. The-Z- store has some parts but beside that you just about have put entirely different types of engine these Z's $$$$$$. It is what it is If I had to do it all over again by picking the car it would be the USA. Do to the parts issue. Great video young man I hope it all turns out good for you. Peace

Hey cool video. I have a 1990 na car but built the motor and boosted it. I used stock size 8.5 to 1 wiseco pistons, race bearings, ARP main studs and head studs, a tt oil pump and heavy duty valve springs . I have a single 3076 turbo and only pump gas 93. It made 502 to the wheels and traction is now an issue. It can be done with a large oil cooler and good cooling system.

I swapped my slick top NA to TT. Long road, but worth it. As someone else said, from the stock TT motor, light mods get you to 400 and the engine doesn't really need opened up to get a ton of power. Nice video and stick with it.

I daily a 95 z32 and thankfully I've had no issues with it so far. I have a z31 project that is my real baby though haha

I did a TT conversion on a NA back in 2006. Wasn't to terribly difficult. Be smart with the tune, run good fuel, and keep the boost low. (I mean other than having to do the turbos from the bottom)

another unsung hero is the g50 platform q45. It uses all 300zx suspension and it's parts are famously used as upgrades to both the 300zx and the 240sx.

I've owned two of these cars: a 90 N/A and a 91 TT. The NA was my first car haha. Super fun cars, very comfortable, and a V6 that actually sounds good what's not to love? Unfortunately these engines being cramped means heat destroys the electrical and rubber lines in the engine bay which is a source of a lot of the weird issues people tend to have. I will say despite most never running at 100% these engines rare pretty hard to kill. I always think about going back to a TT since it's the only 90s JDM legend you can get that isn't a million dollars (let's ignore the 3000GT...) Edit: also there are turbo kits for the NA that I was looking into. I remember a few years ago people were saying the NA might make more power easier when single turbo'd cause of the higher compression. Not sure what happened with that. But the TT is very easy to hit 400 hp with intake, exhaust, chip.

I currently have a z31 with gt3582r turbo and would love to build a z32 in the future.

There are a lot of VG build videos out there. I own a 92NA slicktop.. currently doing a rebuild. Going with forged bottom end, cams, injector & fuel pump upgradeevery bolt-on I can get. As much light weight replacement I can get my hands on. It's not that hard to work on when you know what you are doing. No videos since I have owned mine since 03. Engine is being built by a shop that have been working on Nissan for years.

Making 400whp with a vgtt is pretty simple, and reliable if maintained. I sold mine 😢, but I can give out the build sheet.

#1, these cars brand new were expensive for their time. $30K for an NA and $35K-$40K for the TT. I know because I was 15 when they debuted in summer of '89. I used to always kick tires at the Nissan dealer trying to talk them into letting me test drive one, but was always turned down. They're equivalent to today's M2, M3 or like a Darkhorse Mustang, a $70Kish car #2, the TT was fast for its time. You didn't say it was "slow." But again, the TT was equivalent to a mid, low 12 sec car of today e.g. a V8 Camaro, C6 Corvette, 5.0 Mustang, M2, M3. #3, the VG is too cramped and hence people avoiding them. I own two Z32s, a TT and an NA which I'll LS3 swap with LOJ's kit. Screw the VG30DE. That motor is not worth it. If you really want to build it up, supposedly Merlin Machining has a turbo kit that can pump 700hp out of the NA VG30DE.

It bested the ZR1 corvette of the time and was on par with the viper

(Sorry for the big paragraph, I thought i'd share my thoughts) I think the Z for the most part has received a huge amount of unnecessary backlash in recent years. Quite simply they are very well built, reliable, sporty cars which have plenty of power from the factory. When people start messing around with their advanced electronics and installing cheap mods for quick power, it makes sense for them to give you grief. I'm sure it would give the exact same amount of issues as its competitors like the Supra or RX7, however the Z will receive all the criticism due to it almost being a trend to hate on it because of a few people's bad experiences. (Not to mention a tight engine bay.) I believe if you leave them alone they'll treat you well, which is very tempting to not do, considering what they can offer with a few mods. I own one in TT form and its bone stock engine wise, had it since 2018 and it's never given grief. If their engines were 'that bad' I highly doubt they would've passed the production line and lasted a whole 11 years (1989 to 2000) in Japan. It's taken time but i think people are just now starting to appreciate them for what they are, and the important role they played during what could be considered the golden era of JDM cars. Without the Z, the a80 Supra wouldn't have been as good as it was, nor would its other competitors. Keep in mind the Z32 was in production since 1989, 4 years before the Supra and such! In short though, I think it's a car which very well has received alot of undeserved hate, and I guarantee if it was in some of the movies its competitors were in, it would most likely be seen in the same light as the other JDM icons, regardless of their problems.

And FYI these are some very reliable car's . There are a lot of jack asses that dont know how to care and maintain them, drive them, Mod, them or repair them. the biggest issue is that this car take a fair amount of money and most people dont have it. thus the BS cheap route of the LS swaps. Be creating like the Guys that were swapping in the VH45 V8 from the Q45

I always believed the lack of attention the 300zx received was justified. Mainly, because there were other better lookers, better performers. Not a fan of boxy squarish design language - looks like a 5 year old designed it. It wouldn't be my pick of Nissan's in the 90s, I would gladly take a S15 over a 300zx.
