Buying pants is really the true struggle of fashion. I got so traumatized in the past, that i'm just buying the same models over and over again while one runs out.
One little tip on jeans: Buy snug if you like that fit, but for RAW denim, you must buy one or two sizes bigger. The fabric shrinks a lot as you wash it. My regular fit pair became skinny jeans after only one wash. The only way to keep them like how they were off the rack is to never wash them, which is not very hygienic isn't it 😅 Some people really love the unique pattern of raw denim, but taking care of them is a pain in the ass. And they don't stretch, only shrinks. This might help someone 🙏
Mostly when you buy unsanforised - you gotta know what you’re buying. Unsanforised jeans often come rinsed these days in the European market ( still technically ‘raw’ ) which means they will shrink about as much when washed as most raw sanforised jeans - ie about an inch in the leg, and a little everywhere else. Why I state this is that not all ‘raw’ denim is the same in quality or behaviour - Orslow raw denim for instance is unsanforised - which has been rinsed once
@@MereCashmere for most commercially sold denim - which is wide loom and sanforised - often heavily processed - buy what fits off the rack. For the highest quality Japanese selvedge denim, which is mostly unsanforised - you must make an allowance for shrinkage - even if the jeans have been pre-rinsed. The Orslows in h the video started off unsanforised and have been rinsed. They will shrink a bit more.
@edemaye3328 if you speak to any Japanese selv denim manufacturer they will tell you to buy what fits off the rack. You've spent too much time on reddit and fell for one of the many myths about selv denim
@@MereCashmere I’ve spent zero time on Reddit, just 30 Years buying quality denim ( and not all of it is selvedge ) - in short, selvedge denim is not necessarily the same as unsanforised denim ( I have orslow 90’s raw unselvedge denim which came raw unsanforised and has shrunk by over 10% from raw ) - but I digress - in short you’re mostly correct - most selvedge denim is sanforised ( ie mechanically shrunk as a fabric in factory ) or in the case of small artisan Japanese brands, made in unsanforised denim and factory rinsed to remove most of the shrinkage - so of course buy the size that fits - that’s why the manufacturers do this - to make it easier to find a pair that fits. My comments were, since Harry was talking Orlsow - beware that some Japanese jeans come - selvedge or otherwise - in raw loomstate and unsanforised - and can shrink by up to 10%. Agreed this is a pretty niche market now - but still worth mentioning. Buy you jeans at bricks and mortar stores like Son of a Stag or Rivet and Hide in London, or Selfedge in San Fransisco - and you’ll get the same advice together with a bomber Union Special chainstich on the hem for beautiful roping. As I said, not mass market, and more faff than most will be bothered with or appreciate. Not sure what info you found on Reddit but the old denim myths, been here, done that, moved on
I don’t even try to buy nice pants anymore. I now stick to Levi’s or Lee’s in different colors. My problem is length. I’m a 29” length but everything lately is either 30” or 28” so I have to add ~$10 for the tailor to alter the length.
Bro I'm 6'7'' and you think your problem is length ? Literally cant buy any pants that are long enough, as you cannot add new material to pants. You'll be fine lol Wish I was you for a day, would spend the whole day at the mall and the tailors ;)
Following you for years now, you are definitely an inspiration when it comes to pants. Out of anything, I think you always have perfect fitting pants and it makes me envious lmao.
This is so true. I just got a pair from Abercrombie yesterday in what I thought were my size and they don't fit at all and the return process will likely be a nightmare. Such a waste of money
I’m watching this video having an existential crisis as to why I can’t ever seem to find the right pair of pants. I feel like everything else is easy for me to find, except pants.
I'll still wash jeans normally, but I've solved all my fading problems by rarely washing my other trousers and pants, and being extremely delicate with them when I do. Which maybe sounds gross but they almost never get dirty or sweaty to make them honestly need it in the first place.@@HarryHas
I’m not a mutant bodybuilder but definitely need an athletic fit and finding anything other than sweatpants that fit well off the rack is needle in a haystack stuff.
@@teekuehow do you go about doing that? I've been to three tailors, one called me gay for even wanting to tailor my pants, the other kicked me out because he said that people who want to modify pants are never happy and not worth the money and another had no idea what I wanted and said people only go to tailors for wedding dresses and suits. I can't imagine actually getting all my regular wear pants modified even though I want to because it makes sense.
@@AndreiGeorgescu-j9p I just went to a tailor. Why would they call me gay? It's how an alteration tailor makes money, by doing alterations... Nowadays I can do it myself. It takes very little effort to learn how to let out or take in, or even hem, clothes.
I have almost your exact proportions and after years of trying to find the “perfect” pants, I’ve found a nice fit in Cobra S.C’s twill trousers. They’re pricey, but the quality is outstanding and the cut is classic!
At that price point just go custom, you’ll save money. My advice is go to a proper tailor in person, make the investment in one good pair, then use those measurements to do one of these bespoke by post companies.
Litterally not one pair of jeans i ever bought stretched out, no matter if from Levi's, Wrangler, Lee, HM, New Yorker, Mustang etc. The biggest problem i have is with my thighs. Trousers can hang freely in my calf area, and be 3 sizes too big in waist, but they sure as hell will lay on my thighs as if i wore leggins
Specifically, those Uniqlo trousers you show (towards the middle of the video) would probably be the easiest to tailor. Taking in the seat and waist (even an inch and a half in the seat, to two inches in the waist would be better) would improve the drape significantly, something that most guys I work with need in a slimmer pant.
34 Heritage or AG Jeans. Both do odd numbers. 34H, particularly, has the option of custom shortening the pants before hand. In a default range of 32, 34, and 36 (which even fits guys that are quite tall), with odd numbers up to a 35 (29, 31, 33, 35). In a true slim (Cool), slim boot (Courage), and straight (Charisma). As well as jeans with a higher rise in the back of the jean, perfect for guys who don't really have much of a butt, or just want a bit more coverage in the back.
omg, that is so true!! I am 6ft but I'm kinda thin skinny guy with 28-29 waist. And it comes to all cropped pants are way too short, and long length pants are never long enough...
Standard sizes for trousers are my biggest problem (small, medium, etc). Im a 30 waist and 35-36 length leg, so one measurement is always 4 inches off. If more places offered extra fabric at the hem so they could be extended, it would solve my problem. Even at a £100-150 budget I don't see this offered😢
I swear mate, before I lost weight all was good, I am now somehow in an intermediate size, and its all a nightmare. 34 too slim, 36 too wide, 35 does sometimes not exist. So this one was pretty helpful, stretchy sides indeed does help 😂have a great Sunday, cheers.
I was in the same boat and went up a waist size last year and bought loads of new pants. Then I lost weight and they are all too big. Have a good Sunday mate
Before I lost weight everything in my length was slim. When I lost weight they seem to have stopped selling slim things and it's all mostly "big and tall". I'm quite short at 5ft 6...
I am an Asian. I am difficult to find a Western brand which trousers can fit me well. Their fitting should be for Western people. I can only find Japanese brands that can fit me well.
For those who experience difficulty finding pants which fit, I recommend going to a shop with a large variety of styles, and most importantly, a tailor on site. The tailor can best advise on fit before you make that purchase. Also, one should know one's actual body measurements. Measuring a pair of pants which you've worn and laundered is inaccurate. It is definitely a fact that clothing brands have a strange way of sizing making it difficult to know what size to buy. If you think buying pants is difficult, let's discuss buying a tailored jacket or suit!
It's even harder here in the states with vanity sizes, you can be a 38 inch waist and fit into a 33 pant ... More expensive brands seem to be more accurate and low end brands run much larger.
I really want a pair of jeans from allsaints but I just can't find the Curtis model anymore. Let's hope they restock them soon enough haha Thank you for the gold advice, my hunt for the perfect pants continues haha
@@HarryHas I just found a good offer from another website, just as I finished your video. I ordered without thinking twice. If I'm lucky, I might also find a good offer for the Acne Studios jeans, that'd be great!
His titles are always negative emotion triggering! Next : „Why you’re outfit made you’re mother hate you“ „you’re girl cheats on you because of you’re t-Shirt „
Well I am glad it's not just me and someone with a different body type has the same issue. For me I have to size up so much for my glutes that it is impossible to ever find anything that fits my waist and tapers like I like.
Website size chart design is so ridiculously outdated. My least favorite is when they just don’t bother to put the inseam at all. And then other charts there are nonsensical numbers that cannot possibly reflect the pants in inches or cm. How can the waist be “12” and the inseam be “40” when they are a size 30 🤔 🤔 did anyone even bother to edit this chart breh.. plot twist.. the waist is actually 29.5 in and the inseam is actually 32 🤦🏽♂️ “Return” 🤦🏽♂️ could have just listed the pants as “29x32” or even “30x32” - instead of just “30” with a useless sizing chart.. even worse when they use S, M, L. Oh, and I absolutely LOVE how Uniqlo shares people’s product photos listing their height…. But without requiring them to enter the size they bought. Great, the guy is 6’ 2” thanks for providing this vital information… (while leaving the sizing blank). Make the size and height required to submit the photo, Uniqlo. That simple 🤦🏽♂️
If pants are hard at your size. Imagine how it is when you're a big dude. I used to be a chubby dude and pants were either not made in size 38 and if they were they cant be a snug fit or i'd be screwed. Then there's the problem of length, it would often be too long or the fabric would be insanely wide over the knee/hips. No wonder it's rare to see big dudes that dress sharp. Once I got in great shape, I can buy pretty much anything off the rack as long as it works with broad shoulders.
Problems with shortening- it can ruin the taper… so the ankle width is too wide 😢 I’m 5ft 6 and inside leg is only 27.5 inch. It’s always a nightmare for me to get any good jeans or trousers. Plus it adds another £30 onto the cost. 🤦🏻♂️😂😂 Small man problems.
I spent most of my adult life thinking I had a small ass, which had to mean saggy ass pants. Turned out it was a problem of fit. Once I started wearing vintage cuts - Japanese 50s repros - with a proper waist, then pants didn’t fall off me, and the problem was solved
Can you please start a second channel where you just explain an item that you found online and are considering buying? One take Jake style. I need more content
What about shrinkage in jeans?? I don't know if I'm confused but I'm always worried about them getting smaller after I wash them, so after this video I'm not sure anymore
A lot of jeans will shrink back to the size they were and then stretch out again but you can always do what I mentioned in the video with Reddit etc if you are concerned 🤟
i used to love dickies 874 but the big waist band is uncomfortable since i gained weight. i switched over to dickies tough max duck carpenter pants since they have a regular size waist band and i love them, highly recommend them.
Indeed, it is not easy to find the right pair of pants off the rack, but it is more difficult than that to find a tailor who is skilled in his craft, but one must try to find something close to perfection.
I found the perfect fiting pair at mr porter after searching for so long but guess what happened to that beautiful black cashmere and cotton after the first wash 😞
It’s a nightmare for me, I have thicker legs so even if the waist size is okay the legs are always an issue, I gave up on slimmer pants since they don’t look good on me, nowadays I go for the 501s for my jeans and straight leg pants
Controversial opinion but you often don’t have to dry clean dry clean only stuff, it’s at least a little bit for liability purposes I think, I have ignored it for years now with no issues even with a wool car coat, but maybe with black jeans and stuff it might be more sensitive idk your mileage may vary
Sooo.... what you are saying - you are 6'0'' and none of your pants fit just right ? Except the Issey Miyake ones IMO. I'm 6'7'' (200cm), for me it's tailored or nothing it seems. Maaaybe there are some 34x38 Levi's around but you cant just go to a mall and pick them out. And they are not the cool kind, you basically have 2 options, slim fit or regular. Thats it. Average sized guys of like 180cm really have a field day with pants. You don't even know how good you have it.
Having skinny legs is so annoying 😭i wish i had nice legs so that i could make any pants look good so i wouldnt have to search for a decent pair of pants lol
Hey Harry, do chinos tend to stretch out? Just bought the wide-leg chinos from Uniqlo (they are 100% cotton) and the waist is snug, but not uncomfortable but I’m afraid to keep them.
I've started wearing braces, and find they hold your trousers or jeans at the right place. I've done some research into them and that's something else you need to be carefull of when buying. Mine just about fit when fully extended out and i'm 5'9, I got thm from M&S a few years ago, one size. I found some lee jeans at matalan recentley and I'm very happy with them. I'm a lot older so I'm not prpared to spend too much on Jeans or trousers. I also got a pair of faded black jeans from tesco and they fit just right and were very reasonable, half price. I have strugled in the past with sizing.
Have you checked the jeans from the French brand Asphalte? They will be my next shot. Fairly priced, selvedge, some great dark shades available. I'm struggling to find chinos so I'll keep an eye to the comments.
If you live in Japan and don't have Asian thin legs, fit is a problem. 90% of the trousers I try on with the correct waist and length....I just can't get my legs into.
My pants are all messed up because they're years old and don't fit because my weight has changed significantly. If I had some extra money, I'd be out at the thrift store trying to find some new pants. You might be right though, I've been so focused on the length and taper and not focused enough on the rest of the fit. When I do get around to finding new pants, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
My problem is I workout. So jeans that fit great a year ago don't fit as nice now. I need to find pants that are roomier on the thighs and calves but not baggy or boxy
I have to say that ive never struggled with pants…but damn the sweater…if they fit me right on the shoulders ( i love it to fall just after it, so a bit on the oversized size) they will be soooooo damn long!! Why???
I like getting pants in a physical store so I can try it. If it has stredge materials, I take one that fits but is not loose on the waist at all. Kind of where it just fits. Because they always drop down within an hour of wear 😂 If its a tight material, it has to be slightly larger than my waist. Because they tend to remain the same. I wash everything cold, that has helped the durability of all my clothes a lot. Never been to a dry cleaner, ever.
those tailored jeans are hilarious no offense lol lol i can't even understand what went on there but it's probably the worst looking pair of jeans lol lol
I have 31" waist with some brands, 30 with other brands and 32 even 32 with some. So I gave up on finding perfect fit and buy 31 regular fit and 32 slim fit and just bloody wear belt all the time. Length is another nightmare so basically all my pants go straight to tailor when I buy them.
I typically have the issue with the crotch area being too short or too flat(?) like there is no room for "me" lmao Was so happy to try the Dickies 874s and they just had no space whatsoever.
I have thicker thighs and wide hips thanks too my love for dead lifts , problem is that has made it so much harder to find great fitting clothes. Stuff either fits right around the waist but the crotch and thigh area is too tight or I have to up size but then I need a belt and I hate wearing belts because the cinch look on pants is unflattering
Thanks for another great video Harry. I've been thinking about buying the Acne Studios 1996 denim jeans for a while now but I'm not sure about the fit as they're quite tight on me, did you find yours stretched after a couple of wears?
Love this guide. am also a wait 31 and hated uniqlo for having S,M,L as a size reference. I want the length of a small one but my thighs and waist breathes more w/ a medium pair, this makes it uneasy for me since am a 5'6 guy and a medium one looks too big on me. I learn my lesson to never buy a 32 nor a medium in my future purchases, if theres no option then am just gonna wait or not buy than to regret later just like your advice. thanks mate
Man, I've been struggling with this for years. I've got a similar build to you but my thighs and waist are about an inch bigger. Size 31/32 would be perfect for me in the waist, but when I buy things TTS, my legs don't fit. Levi's straight cut look like bell bottoms on me with my slim thighs getting choked out. Then the waist get stretched out and you have skin tight "straight cut" jeans with a baggy waist. Make it make sense... Who are these even designed for? I had this problem with AllSaints as well, especially with their slimmer cuts, but they're still my go to brand as they fit my proportions best. The only brand that fit me well with minimal tailoring was April77, but they don't exist anymore :(
Im always the opposite, "what if it shrinks?" O.O And its quite easy to experience with tumble dryer. (I know, its pretty rare to find garments that lets you tumble dry it officially) Fading is a nightmare, and its always happens especially with black clothes.
Fun paintings. The motifs come from a very old Swedish cocoa brand called "Ögonblink". When it comes to pants, I always buy from PT01. The only problem I have is that my pants always break in the crotch regardless of brand.
If you're gonna be desperate enough to buy acne studio pants for 500 bucks, you might as well spend that money on made to measure pants from any somewhat decent tailor. there is a bunch of offers from big chains to small tailors that offer made to measure chinos for instance. some years ago I knew a place that would make you mtm chinos starting at 250€. I aint gonna buy OTR for 500 bucks, that's just insane. I dont even care if they then fit well. It's clearly a rip off scam.
I own 3 pairs of Iron Heart denim. 2 are the same measurements, but fit drastically different. The slubby pair fits perfectly at 30” while the black pair chokes me. I bought a 3rd pair in 31” and ended up needing to tailor the entire top block down to fit like the slubby pair. The black pair never broke in.
