I grew up in a church where the minister chose one reading to focus on each Sunday, his choice, and normally from the Old Testament. A few verses, or perhaps a chapter, followed by a long, perhaps 45 minute sermon. As a kid I was so bored that I would sit there imagining setting fire to one corner of the church and then another, and trying to figure out in my mind where the flames would meet. The first time I attended Mass after our Catholic wedding was Midnight Mass. Four readings, Old Testament, Psalms, Epistle, and the Gospel, and all coordinated to the day (the birth of Christ). And so much else that I could identify with: the sign of the cross (obviously the Trinity), the Nicene Creed (didn't know it but I agreed with it EXCEPT FOR the comment about the holy catholic church... I didn't buy that until I discovered that Catholic meant universal), the Lord's Prayer which I knew by heart. The Sanctus/Holy, Holy Lord (reminiscent of Isaiah and Revelations). When the priest held up the host and said "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" - John the Baptist. It seemed like every word was associated with the Bible and for someone who had always been told that Catholics aren't allowed to read the Bible, that was impressive. I was one of those "the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon and the Pope is the Anti-Christ" Protestants. But it took just that one Mass to convince me that if I was wrong about Catholics knowing the Bible, I just might be wrong about other things too. It still took me another 11 years to convert but that was more out of some undeserved loyalty to my Protestant relatives than any good reason not to convert. In my heart I was Catholic long before I converted. One of the things I love about the Catholic Church is the participation. The up/down/up/down/kneel/up/kneel/up constant movement and the verbal participation, the responses to the psalms and to the prayers of the priest, the Nicene Creed and Lord's Prayer, I never feel like a passive observer. I have my role to play and I LOVE THAT.

I am Catholic as it’s the only Church started by God Himself with His apostles. The only one who God gave His authority and Sacraments to. The Catholic Mass is the only place on earth The Transubstantiation occurs. He renamed His apostle Peter (Rock in Aramaic), told him in Matthew 16:18 And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:19 And I will give YOU the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatever YOU shall bind on earth shall be bound, even in heaven. And whatever YOU shall release on earth shall be released, even in heaven.” Jesus appointed His apostles first Pope & Priests, gave THEM His authority, instituted Sacraments and commanded them to spread His Church Infallibly to the world. Jn 1:42, 21:15-17, Mk 3:14-19, Mt 16:18-19, 28:18-20, Eph 2:19-22, Jm 5:14-16, Jn 20:21-23, Mt 18:18, 2 Cor 5:18-19, Jn 6:51-59, 1 Cor 11:23-29, Lk 22:19-20, Mt 3:11, 19:4-6 a few related verses. Jesus wanted everyone to be His ONE True Church, not break away. Eph 2:19-22, 4:5, jn 10:16, 17:20-26. He also taught that if you leave the doctrine He set for us in His Church, you do not have Him. Gal 1:7-9, Heb 13:9 and 2 John 1:9 Everyone who withdraws and does not remain in the doctrine of Christ, does not have God. Whoever remains in the doctrine, such a one as this has both the Father and the Son.

I'll give just 3 among the many reasons why you should and MUST be a catholic christian. First it's a MUST to receive the body and blood of Christ to have true/everlasting life. Second it's a MUST to know and accept and be part of the greatest gift of God to have a mother and you can call your own mama ( real / forever mother ). Third as everybody is a sinner you can be 100% sure you will be forgiven if you ask forgiveness and go to the sacrament of confession thru a priest who will hear your sins and you will hear him that you are already forgiven ( with authority from Jesus Christ our God himself given to the priest to forgive sins ). To non catholics if you have the desire which your soul should have to be a catholic the best way to start the process is to PRAY 🙏sincerely and faithfully deep in your heart to GOD that you will be guided on your journey to become a catholic. God bless us.💛⛪

My parish priest, on Sunday, said that the Bishops decided that instead of praying for the stopping of abortion, we need to pray for our enemies, etc, so that we receive understanding and peace. Is this the new Catholic Church? If so, I do not think I belong.I would like a response, if possible. Last week, I was advised by my new "Catholic" friends that Jesus doesn't care if we call Him Buddah, or Allah, or whatever; everyone is welcome in heaven. I am beyond disturbed by these things.

Thanks for leaving a comment. Sounds like there may be some confusion with what is being communicated to you. The USCCB just said a couple of months ago in preparation for the march for life and the upcoming election year that fighting to end abortion remains a "pre-eminent priority" for Catholics. Buddah, Allah, or whatever are gods (lowercase "g" meaning they are man made). Jesus is God (big "G" meaning He's the real deal). God has revealed himself as a trinity of persons - Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. Anything to the contrary or anything not revealed through scripture and/or tradition is not of God. Here's the article from the USCCB: www.usccb.org/prolife/catholics-political-life More on Muslims: www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/do-muslims-worship-the-same-god-catholics-do More on Buddhists: www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/are-jesus-and-buddha-brothers Study the faith and be confident. @@SaintDominicMedia the article you sent me had 3 points: 1) apostle means delegate. 2) Jesus appointed Paul to the Gentiles. 3) Paul said he was an apostle many times. Please help me understand your points; 1) Apostles according to scripture are required to have been with Jesus from his baptism with John. (ACTS 1:21 21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”) Paul fails this first requirement. 2) Jesus appointments Peter (NOT Paul) to be the Apostle to the Gentiles. (ACTS 15:7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear FROM MY LIPS the message of the gospel and believe.) In fact, Paul did such a poor job teaching that he was made to repent for teaching falsely (ACTS 21:21) and Peter even warns people not to listen to Paul’s teachings in his epistle (2 PETER 3:16-17) 3) just because Paul says he saw a vision does not give him authority over the TRUE APOSTLES! By that logic we should listen to Joseph Smith and be Mormons. Lastly, if you lead people with BLIND FAITH both shall fall into the ditch!

Our traditions and prayer are the way we remain in close relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus gave us the seven sacraments to use to protect our souls and to remain in Him. I always think of our traditions like participating in family traditions: I want to be close to the members of my family, so we get together and maintain a close bond of relationship through our family traditions. I want to be always close to the Holy Trinity, so I partake in the sacraments and pray my rosary to remain always mindful of my connection with God. I love Jesus, so I want to do everything I can to remember Him constantly and be in relationship with him. Holiness can (and we hope will) be a byproduct of that relationship, but the purpose of our traditions is to be constantly in a close relationship with Jesus.
