Why You Should Never Ignore Cat Fur Mats 

My long haired boy has occasional matting. I try to get my daughter’s help by holding him while I cutting a mat out. I use small blunt end scissors. I hold the mat as close to his skin as possible then cut what’s in front of my fingers. That usually allows me to gently work it out by pulling the bulk out with my fingers then using a brush to finish removal. It isn’t fun for any of us. But, he’s happy when it’s done!

All your advice about matting is spot on! My DGD’s cat developed several mats and the only solution was the vet. Not even a groomer would tackle the mats b/c of the locations: underarm and genitals. Thankfully kitty is fine now and being brushed daily! Prevention is way better than the alternative. Merry Christmas from our home to yours. ❤️ 🌲

If you did have a more cooperative cat (I do NOT) I know that you can get a grooming guide that snaps onto the clippers, like to adjust how close a shave you are giving, that adds to the safety of it all and makes it less likely that you will nick your pets skin. We used to have a maltipoo that hated being groomed but we used the clippers w/the guards.

We recently adopted a long-haired cat who we had to shave on both sides. It was like an inch shell... Obviously cat has more problems than just worms. Because 3 weeks after the deworming she's still too skinny and seems like she doesn't groom herself at all. She is going to the vet again as soon as we get back home.

I have a ferel cat outside that has a mat on her back, I tried to give her a topical flea control, and it didnt agree with her, and created a ball of fur..the problem is I cant catch her or trap her so I can remove it, she has had this thing for over a year now..and I just feel so bad that I cant remove it for her :(

The best way to cut the fur is by using a small shaver that men use on they face. It is lite weight and cordless, but best of all it is quite.

Using herb in my cats’ food keeps their hair soft. When it does get matted brushing against it ; then with it will remove that matte

Fluffy looked just precious after being groomed. Do you have any recommendations for cats oral care? My little girl was feeling bad for a few days. I didn't want to wait almost 2 weeks for a visit with her regular vet. A trip to the ER revealed an infection in her gums from tooth decay. She and her sister are from the same liter and have the same diet but, my other little ones teeth and gums are healthy

The matting pulls at their skin and it hurts like hell.

If you’re cat has matting to me it’s clear you don’t spent any time with them. Simply petting your cat will prevent matting. That’s it. The longer the fur the faster it will mat. Even my long haired tnr’s don’t get their hair matted because I pet them everyday. The only time I’ve ever had matting on a personal pet was, guess? When I was so busy I couldn’t tend to them and pet them as I usually do. We all get busy but our pets need love and attention. Acting as if matting simply happens out of nowhere doesn’t help anyone.
