Yes @@jlc5271 , you still have a lot of potential to change your jaw shape. I hear the younger you are the better, but results significantly slow after 40, but myofacial therapy will still improve the situation at any age. We all need to know how to breathe properly, swallow and chew, how to hold our tongues, how to nourish ourselves properly, etc.
John Mew and Bill Hang are truly great dentists who deserve to be recognized for their extensive forward thinking and innovative work on advancing craniofacial development. Once their work is fully appreciated and implemented across the industry the health of millions will be drastically improved.
That was me in the 70's... extractions and braces. All done the same day. Eight hours later my mom drove me home. I still can't believe it. And SO expensive. My parents could barely afford it. It was a big sacrifice.
@@tachisme , That's kind of you, I hope so too. There were no other options back then. That was the one option, if you could afford it. Mewing was still generations away from being heard of. Pre-internet, there wasn't access to info like there is now.
I had two extractions 3 years after this programme when I was 18, and it messed up my bite completely. There should be some way we could get compensated for this. It's a national scandal.
Max Smith not really honestly a dentist job isn’t to make your face the most optimally attractive, it’s to fix your teeth. Also I don’t believe most dentist have any idea about any of this.
True but I think most people including me until now don’t realize dental treatment can effect their face, that should hopefully be more known in the future so people can make better decisions
We are in the same boat. And this is not just a national scandal, it’s an international scandal. Orthodontists in all countries follow these same screwed methods
Dear Doctor, I think that I am the perfect example of face, jaws, eyes, right side of my bones until my right foot, my life and future, destroyed by orthodontics. I have been to different orthodontics, young and old. No one will admit they are wrong. I have been suicidal whenever the pains become so unbearable that even painkillers couldn't help. I have not really researched much about Orthotropics or mewing, but what I started doing years ago, was to try and "put back" my teeth, bones and eye socket to where it was before...because I know when everything started to really move yet the heartless dentists wouldn't listen to me. It was when I suddenly couldn't breathe. I felt like my nose and eyes were being pulled down by the bands attached on my upper and lower molars. No one will really tell you these things. It's as if the entire dental industry including the people involved with them, do not care. It's all about the money. I was able to find a TMJD specialist in the country but wasn't able to consult further as I didn't have the xrays then. Also, seems like also after just the money. No one believes me. Even another dentist told me to go to Neurologist first before she will consider me as a candidate. I just can't believe how each and every dentist who did this to me, can have no conscience. All I can do now is try to always push my bones and eye sockets whenever the extreme pains come. I just really don't know nor see a future anymore since I cannot even have a life for very many years now. This has been the major thing that has totally destroyed my life and future. People do not see me as suffering from so much pains that most of the time, I'm lying down on my hard plastic bed or any hard surface, to help push my bones. Everyone just sees me as lazy. I'm too far away, so I'm just gathering my courage to share this. I hope that someday, all the malpractice the dentists did all over the world, will be exposed. There is even no malpractice law here so....
hello, do you also have trouble breathing and some problem in eyesight? please research more about your issue with the correct dentists who are aware of your trouble cuz some dentists say the retraction of jaws may hit back the two vertebrae of the back and also affects the skull to be retracted which might damage eyesight a bit. hope you find the treatment
8:05 my orthodontist never warned me that my face would look worse, that my airways would be made more narrow and that’d I’d have to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. He never told me about alternative treatment.
Same he didn't tell me he would damage my face, airway. 25 years later I had to discover the truth myself...I had the same profile as this girl at age 13, my life was not the same, only 3 years HG. orthotropics.com/httpsyoutu-bemks6qa0-s9s/
My dad is the opposite - he called and he told me to not give a f and he said to them to pull my teeth. But they actually just made everything worse a waste of 6000 dollars
@Z Assassin Z he doesn't he just has a bigger purpose for you. People right now are making videos about Jesus that he's coming and about spirituality someone said NOV 14 2019
makes me want to punch these critics in the face destroying ppls lives. whish I knew this before I got my braces 20 years ago, but glad to find the info at last to be able to fix the worst damage.
When I was younger my parents couldn’t get braces for me. Once I grew up I had to get braces when my bottom wisdom teeth were impacted. I went to 2 orthos and both wanted to take out 4 premolars plus all wisdom teeth and I always thought it wasn’t okay to take out teeth because they’re there for a reason right? I researched more and I found a great ortho around my area that worked with all teeth I have (only wisdom teeth had been removed because they were impacted and I still hadn’t found my now ortho). He put an appliance and it’s been a year I don’t have braces and wow you can really see the difference between people who get extractions and people who don’t. I can sleep better at night, before I would wake up coughing and now I can sleep because my mouth has more space for the tongue to rest and let air in. I’m grateful I looked for another alternative to keep my teeth. ❤️
Chloe Hu it’s unfortunate that there’s not info out there for everyone to know the effects of extractions =\ . If my parents would have had put braces I would of gotten my teeth extracted, I wouldn’t blame them because we barely found out when I began to research. I hope everyone can get more informed and avoid extractions 🙏
That’s me. But I think also my bad habit of biting my nails also contributed to my lower teeth to get crooked again after braces. And of course the narrow smile that was caused by the braces
@@marusdod3685 Yeah bro it is. You claimed *extreme forward growth* is ugly, I agree with that claim. Extreme forward growth cant be from mewing it has to be genes involved too. So that like saying "Being too tall is ugly" well yeah being too tall. Not being tall aka having forward growth is good
@@chillaxer8273 I didnt say that, I said that many people who have really forward grown faces are ugly, as in, they have very good facial structure but still look ugly. Which means that mewing from birth and having good bones is not a guarantee that they will become chads even with the proper facial structure
@@Flugs0 Well, the root problem is toungue posture BUT as babies you should DRINK breastmilk in order TO LEARN PROPER SWALLOWING TECHNIQUE and that...that habit will teach the child to close his mouth and rest tounge up on the palate. Food isnt the important thing but I understand your point 😎
@@ComputerPredator Well im not wrong because here where I live it was the dentists that extracted many of my teeths and the education here about the mouth is only focused on brushing teeth AND NOT TOUNGUE POSTURE. Youre wrong how does it feel?
@@chillaxer8273 What? Have you listened to what Mike says? Baby vials are the main cause of incorrect tongue posture and our soft diet is the main cause of mouthbreathing.
I had mine extracted 4 teeth. My jaw got receded but luckily I found mewing. Now it's fixed. I been mewing for 9 to almost 10 months now. I got forward chin now and beautiful. Thank you Dr Mike mew. You really changed my life. And how much you eliminated my insecurity. A big thanks! Also my cheekbones looks higher. It's amazing how fast it is for me.
@@kayoconey7198 yes I had braces for 4 years. My teeth didn't really aligned together. And it's just weird. Also because of that. My tongue space became really small. Fortunately for me the mewing helped tremendously.
That is some beautiful information to make beautiful people. I love all the natural methods of improving ourselves. Removing parts of our body should never be the answer unless absolutely necessary.
This is a problem that should have been fixed years ago. There is literally millions of people suffering extractive and retractive orthodontics, and it’s still happening. It’s a really cruel society we live in. So much unnecessary suffering, pain and death. We think we have freedom of speech, we think we are safe, just nonsense.
Just a friendly reminder that body posture can change your face just as much as mewing. Also try tounge chewing and chin tucks while on the ground. Good luck boys
I personally am suffering social anxiety disorder, and it is the worst more than what people would imagine. It extremely hinders my performance in college and me from going to school and from graduating. One of the reason why, is how my facial structure looks. I wish that atleast only that one insecurity would be gone for good.
How sad this reality is actually breaks me very much. Why is nobody listening. With my only reasoning being that this is an industry with commerce at its core.
@Ayush Jacob How do you do it bro ? I went across a couple of videos in youtube about mewing and although, I quite frankly think the idea is great, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing ? You know, I find the instructions somewhat unclear...Would appreciate it if you would kindly write out in-detail what I'm supposed to do...
@@manshuvkafle6392 yeah bro! Why not! The idea is that you have to keep your moth shut, teeth togeter and your entire tongue on the upper pallate . This is all you gotta do if you watch a lot of videos you might get confused, just do what I said and keep the posture right.
@@Ayush-wx5oy Bro, I am 16 and in terms of face, I already am 9/10 in my normal position(where I close my lips, breate through nose but don't keep my teeth together and don't touch the roof of my inner mouth). But, when I try to mew (bring my teeth together and rest my tongue at the roof, as you and a few other youtubers recommended), my face becomes quite austistic and 6/7 out of 10. Believe me, it gets ugly and my friends really say I'm better off not doing it ... What does your research say bro ? Should I still hit up mewing consistently, although you know I seem REALLY ugly when I do it ?
@@manshuvkafle6392 Bro....we are using mewing to change our facial structure, to make it better right? But don't forget the fact that it's the natural posture and our body is supposed to follow it. You might be good looking now, but if you don't mew then the facial structures may start to deteriorate. Besides that, I haven't heard that mewing tampers with looks other people can't even notice if you are mewing, you are probably doing it wrong. The only instantaneous change while mewing correctly is that the muscles underneath your jaw tightens and it makes the face look good, not bad. Bro, this was my explanation on basis of knowledge I gathered and my experience. Hope it helps🤘
This technic has improved my jaw posture. Even though I m in my 30s. Mewing works. The scientific community is based on superstitious people who base their beliefs 100 years back.
Now people just need to learn to brush properly too, and most dental issues will be no more. The misinformation is affecting people's health, we are lucky some put health over profits.
@Zezo Z Depends, for some two minutes may not be enough. The edge of the gums also need a clean. Also the correct amount of fluoride is recommended, some toothpaste have less. Unless a person needs less.
@@funsun5364 OMG, no! Never use fluoride toothpaste. If you want to have perfect teeth, eat a low carb or carnivore ancestral diet that includes meat you have to chew. Our high sugar (carb), low fat diet is the cause of so many ills these days.
@@sportysbusiness Still think people should brush, while people are free to choose a brand etc, it's difficult to ignore the effects of improper cleaning. Yes diet can affect the acidity, bacteria will still be there. Add in medication, drinks, even water which has ingredients added, better to brush to be safe.

It feels so sad for me see this video now after I finished med treatment the traditional way. They took out four of my teeth and I can already one year after I took off the braces that my lower chin is becoming smaller and my face starting to look different compared to older photos of me.
Strangely enough my orthodontist in canada did a bit of both. He acknowledged that my tongue tie was the root cause of the problem and delt with it before the braces ever went on.
@Xirezo X mine did, he even went out of his way to save all my little sisters teeth. She had a lot of teeth erupting in her palate, he really did a good job
@@roxannedunstanharvey4898 The good ones that care about asthetics and long term health are rare. There's literally only like 3 practices in the state of new york that cover everything lol it's a damn shame
It is insane that these sensible ideas and astonishing results are not yet the norm in treatment. I personally had several teeth extracted and wore headgear to push my upper teeth back, resulting in a tiny mouth and an airway which is too small to breathe well at night. Traditional orthodontics is ARCHAIC, torturous, and damaging compared to the clearly superior method of orthotropics.
Gonedridge I mean mewing has its limits, don’t be fooled and be part of its cultish following full of insecure teenagers. If your palate is too small, you’ll struggle with mewing and some people are very resistant to palatial expansion. Mew for the sake of better breathing but you won’t make any significant difference to your face.
There are indeed cases that mewing alone does not correct, such as severely recessed jaws or severely narrowed palates. As the Mew doctors explain, orthotropic principles, at their core, describe guidance of the growth of the face, not necessarily its correction. Not that correcting the oral environment is something that should be done anyway to set the craniofacial complex back up for forward growth.
Can the effects of extracted wisdom teeth be reversed? Can something else be put in the place of the extracted teeth to help encourage return of bone mass/blood flow? Or can that only be done immediately after tooth extraction when there is still an opening?
Dr. Mew, my frontal teeth were obliterated in an accident when I was 9 years old; the lower teeth were smashed to bits whereas the upper teeth were just completely pulled out of place. The dentist replaced all missing teeth with dental implants. My question is could this have negatively impacted my facial development in the same way that getting a tooth pulled leads to "melting away" of the jawbone due to bone resorption? I never got braces and have always had proper diet / oral posture.
any teeth loss is bone loss, teeth are in the area of the face, that are also connected to the jaws, if u lose ur teeth there, u lose ur bone, jawbone.
Can you please talk about TMJ ( temporomandibular joint dysfunction) , because I do have it and I have to use a retainer, that keeps my mouth a bit open during the night. Without the retainer I get serious pain on my jaw. You should adress this issue on your videos, because I never saw you talking about that or giving any solution for those who have this dysfunction, I can´t mew or bite hard things for example. So which alternatives people like me have?
I asked this under a previous video but got no answer. Since a repeated force for a long period of time can cause bones to change shape, could sleeping in the same position and with the same side of your face against the pillow also cause your face to grow unsemetrically
@@dyndu2074 What are you talking about!!! Ditching pillow and sleeping on your back without any neck support is the absolute worst you can do. The only corrcet way to sleep on back is to have support pillow for cervical and lumbar part. For neck cylindrical cushion is good, or any soft object that supports your neck and keep your head touching the mattres, lumbar is not as important but stil... Also sleeping on back might not be ideal, with regular pillow especially, because snoring, sleep apnea, gravity wich pulls chin inwards... Using neck support, idk if there is something different or not. Sleeping on the side is probably the best position (watch Today I Learnd video on sleeping or any other video about correct posture in sleeping positions) since whole spine is in line as is supposed to be, assuming you have healthy posture and muscles. On that, how sleeping on the side affects chin, is minimal sinec the pressure is not that big on your chin. Even if it was it's hard to move chin sideways. Plus your toungue get's in position where it's supposed to be (think why uncouncious must be put on side) what also helps with mewing.
Too late for the majority of people (unless u want to do braces to reverse and have implants to add four teeth) because that was the standard and still is. It us also very difficult to find an orthotropic doctor near you because it is not a well known medical approach. They are usually in big cities and it’s an expensive and lengthy process. (Worth it if you can afford it)
I regret the extraction of my left lower wisdom tooth beacuse it made my whole face asymetrical. The right lower one is still on his place but is escaping upwards. Also my upper wisdom teeth are too small. They have no support from below and are escaping outwards. Should I get an inplant for my extracted tooth and change the upper ones for inplants aswell? I really dont want to extract them and live with just 28 teeth my whole live. Mewing surely helped me to improve my face and see the causes for asymetry and bad bodyposture. But it cant compromise my extracted tooth and too small upper teeth.
i have quite a long and prominent chin with a noticeable jawline and a proper bite but i want to correct my chin. will mewing help or will this make my chin even more prominent? hoping for your answer and thanks so much.
I have braces but no extractions it's for my deep bite and I think I will be getting rubber bands soon will this have a negative effect on my jaw and teeth? pls answer
If you have weak chin, does this mean you'll automatically have an overjet? If so, is it normal that your jaw feels like it's hanging on your jaw joint on one side and makes some clicking sound when you're biting down on your back teeth and especially when eating hard foods(hurts sometimes)?
Someone help me out here. I have got 1 premolar extracted from the right side of the upper and lower jaw. And now my orthodontist wants to extract 1 more from the left side of both the Jaws for retraction. But now that I know that extractions are bad, what do I do? Is there any other way I can ask him to do the treatment. Or will it cause assymetry and I need to get them extracted. Help!!

Yes, at first it is gonna be difficult. I was the same back then. Previously, i snored a lot. Now, my snoring decrease significantly. The pathway for breathing is a lot better. Keep on doing it. Good luck. Make sure you do the right mewing, by not pushing tounge forward. However, push back-tounge upward.
