I've looked on Ebay a few times and your right, not many good ones on there. I do a lot of classic and modern classic car shows, so the MK1 will now fit in to this mold. But yes. Had MK4 / MK5 R32 loved the noise. Fancied a 3.2 for I went for the TT. But I wanted more power and a tune so the 225 made sense. Plus you can get rid of a lot of the boost leaks by fitting catch can and deleting N249. Red for me all the way.
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 3 года назад
It is all down to what you plan to do with it for sure, boost leaks are easily sorted without the need to remove anything with a simple pressure / smoke test but its going to be the same with any 20 year old boosted car, pipes perish and when you tune them you just speed up the process haha

I still have my 05 DSG 3.2 Quattro. It’s the best TT ever made. It’s getting to the point of me wanting new headlights, and I replaced the instrument cluster for the dreaded red screen issue, and redid the headliner since mine had been parked in the weather all this time. But aside from a recent fuel pump replacement the car ran as my daily driver for 15 years without a single repair. I don’t race it, although I do enjoy its acceleration and impeccable handling on twisty roads. ( no one in a RWD car can keep up with the Quattro 3.2 DSG TT on winding roads) Reasons to get the 3.2 are- 1, that extra 25 horsepower is something a car this heavy NEEDS, but the real boon is the low end torque. The 3.2 DSG will shift into 6th at 35 mph if you are not driving it in sport mode. As a result, mine gets around 30 mpg. 2, the naturally aspirated 6 is more durable, and has a timing chain rather than the serpentine belt that will fail without notice. You can Check the timing of the chain to see if it’s stretching with a diagnostic. 3, the 3.2 DSG Quattro has a very understated exhaust note in ordinary drive mode, but when manual shifting or in sport mode, the engine comes to life with a deep satisfying growl that is not obnoxious or overt. Just loud enough to draw positive reactions. The best sounding TT by far, and you don’t have to do a thing to the exhaust to get it. The 3.2 Quattro sLine DSG is best when its as built. The audi engineers did a great job of balancing performance with durability in tuning the car. If you don’t mess with it, it will retain excellent performance for 150,000 miles as the engine is tuned to match the transmission and vice versa. The DSG will simply not LET you lug or overrev the engine. And every shift and throttle blip will be perfect and faster than any manual. 5, the DSG is still the best transmission I have ever driven. Effortless in switching between paddle shifting manual and auto shifting automatic operations. Tap the downshifter and floor it and the car leaps forward at almost any speed. And the sLine suspension was tuned to ride perfectly at 100 mph. If you can find one that was just left at factory spec, without the chipping, goofy exhausts or add ons that so many folks ruin their TT with, then it’s likely in solid mechanical shape. But beware the ones that young men drove hard and dicked around with to increase horsepower, or exhaust noise. I bought mine 2 years old off a lease with only 14k miles. Half original sticker price. It had been leased by a young woman, and like most young women she did not race the car or play the launch control nonsense… she just drove it at a high rate of speed everywhere she went for 14k miles. Which happens to be the profile for perfect break-in of the 3.2/DSG combo.

That looks really smart. The VR6 sounds great with the Scorpion exhaust! Points well made about the engine/gearbox and costs involved for repairs. My DSG 3.2 has had a litany of misfire/non start problems that seem to point to chain stretch. Checking on VCDS shows measuring blocks within tolerance. I have replaced cam sensors and crank sensor. Latest issue was a coil pack melting, blowing a fuse and bringing up the flashing ‘PRNDS of death’. A lot of the time the car starts/runs OK, other times it starts and runs like a bag of spanners. Turn it off, restart and it runs like a sewing machine. It’s really frustrating, so I have decided to replace chains, solenoids and any other worn bits around that critical area. Watching ru-vid.comhumblemechanic has given me renewed confidence in doing this. Wish me luck.🤔

Hi Nick I had the gearbox malfunction error on my previous A6. Its worth checking the connection to the mechatronics unit from the wiring loom. There is certainly something not right, are you logging any faults besides a multiple of misfires? The worst part about the chains is the man hours required to do it. It’s not a quick Job as requires so many things to be done. Good luck and let us know how you get on
@nick1of2
@nick1of2 3 года назад
@@TheParrottBros the fault codes seem to vary from one day to another. Generally they are 16684 random multiple cylindwr misfire and then list cylinders where it is occurring. Great video and nice to see a 3.2 finally getting some representation. :-) My feelings on the dynamic merits of a DSG 3.2 are well documented. If you could move the engine 8 inches back in the chassis it would almost be as dead and inert as a 225. As it is, a 3.2 is an understeery, thirsty bugger, prone to mechanical tantrums and DSG hissy fits. A manual is slightly less grim. They do sound good though, and the instant torque makes them a bit more predictable on part throttle. I think of a 3.2 as the Pavaroti of the TT world. Audi clearly agreed with me as the QS went back to the 1.8t rather than keep flogging a 6 pot horse. And don't get me started on VR6 timing chains. Tongue (mostly) in cheek here. :-)
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 3 года назад
😂😂😂 I can’t argue with that, it’s a great car but does have its downsides it all depends on what you like and how much you want to save it haha. It’s different. If you went to a tt meet there would probably be 90% turbo, and a couple v6’s so in that scenario they instantly become that more unique car. Plus always one to listen out for when leaving 😂😂
@crikeymikey3691
@crikeymikey3691 3 года назад
@@TheParrottBros Yup. "Wookie" noises make up for a lot of faults! I suspect the real solution is to have a VR6 AND a 225. Sixes are special. Various Nissan GTRs spring to mind. Straight six Jags. TVR Speed Six. The list goes on. When BMW went to a v8 powered M3 it lost it's soul. E46 M3s are collectable for that reason. The v8 M3 (E92 I think) is more like a muscle car. Fast... but no one loves them. The 3.2 TT is loved, despite it's limitations. And that's good enough for me. :-) Keep up the good work, Dom.

@@TheParrottBros E36 M3 and the Mk1 TT have a lot in common. Over-engineered, pretty much bomb proof and under apperciated in their own life time. Can't imagine anyone getting teary eyed over Teslas. :-)

@@stub7373 I’ll ask Tom, think it came on the car when he brought it. It’s probably one of those ones that’s pictured in a roll on eBay. If your putting on a 225 it won’t look the same as bumper is slightly more rounded

Hello sir I just started watching your content and I was just curious with a 3 in downpipe do you need to get a new dogbone mount my car only has 87,000 miles on it so I am not to if the bearing is crazy worn or not
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 3 года назад
Are you on about a 1.8t one? usually they recommend a new dogbone either new or powerflex as the new 3" flexi doesnt have as much movement and an old dog bone can make all the difference

Love the sound of a VR6. Lovely car, just a shame Audi decided to badge it as a 'V6' in the TT.

There's no such thing as a V6 TT. It's another configuration called VR6, but many of them towards the 2000s just ended up being marketed as V6 for whatever reason.

That’s it’ buddy, it’s a beautiful engine, video named like that as that’s how it’s marketed like you say, it’s what the Engine cover / manifold says & most know it as. The vr6 has an engine that sounds like no other and so iconic.
