I’m single as a teenage car guy for a few reasons. One, I’m afraid of commitment. I have to be honest on that one. Two, I don’t want to lose my “me time”. And last but not least, I don’t see how anyone could really truly care for me. I don’t say that in an attention whoring way, rather I just can’t comprehend the thought that someone would genuinely love me for me. I’ve talked to some of my family and older friends and I’ve realized that teen years are not the time to date. Almost always ends in heartbreak and it’s just baggage that you carry with you. In our teens we don’t know what we really want yet.
dating in your teenage years sets you up to know how to date as an adult. it gets you practice on open communication (something very very important in a successful happy relationship), knowing what kinds of girls you do and don’t like, give you time to figure out yourself in relationships, what your pet peeves and negative buttons are, what you look for in a girl, etc. you skipping out on dating as a teenager means you’re gonna go through all your childish antics as an adult in an adult relationship, which isn’t going to end well.

I'm single (27 years old Asian male) and I chose to. I originally wanted to get into relationships but a lot of negative experiences with girls swayed me away. I have dealt with my friend's sister and several other female roommate. I'm having an impression that (due to clinically diagnosed with Aspergers) I cannot handle any negative emotions towards me. So in the end, I ended up driving a 06 Mustang GT with manual as my main pleasure besides computer programming. I might reconsider if I find the right girl with the personality I wanted, unfortunately they're rare. Maybe someday. Edit: in addition to that, I've faced plenty of traumatic experiences in the past: ran away from dictatorship (China), parents divorce, verbal abuse, facing death of a roommate, and being homeless briefly. I am definitely the 2nd one. Being in a relationship normally requires lots of time and often money. What girl wants to date some guy whose life revolves around his car, meaning he puts the majority of his time, money, and attention into his car. I just don't see a relationship like that working out and when you guys go your seperate ways, what was it all for? All the time and money that you could've put into your passion but instead put into a relationship that didn't last. I'm not the type who feels like they need or want to date someone so for me it just doesn't really make sense to be in a relationship for now. I'll probably try to get in a relationship sometime in the future, but no time soon. Also, I have some pretty bad trust issues, not gonna lie. I've seen women do some very messed up things to ruin a guys life. They could falsely accuse you of a horrible crime and even if you're found not guilty, your life will still be ruined, sucks but that's just how it is for some reason. The courts are very biased against men when it comes to things like custody, child support, or just accusations in general. Then you also got the "crazy ex-girlfriends" who get mad for whatever and destroy the car that you worked hard to earn and means so much to you. I won't get into specific examples that I've seen, that'd take way to long, but I do have several examples. I'd like a prenup but girls always lose it when you start bringing up prenups, makes me question their intentions.
I'm single primarily by choice. A relationship can be an uphill climb; an uphill climb that I'm not willing to do. Another reason is for financial reasons, i.e. Taking someone or treating someone can be a little costly, I'd personally spend my hard earned money towards what makes me happy (as well as occasionally treating close relatives). For me it was because I dated a widow with four kids and she came to break up with me. This is when I was earning the most money and had the most to offer. Then there was a young lady who had less life experience and options and since I was a little older I had aces stuffed up my sleeves. But as soon as her friends got their lives together she went cold and the worst part was that after driving 5 hours to the event we met at, messaging her friend that she was feeling down and even getting her a pass to the event we met at she acted like I was a pest. I lost an ae92 to an ill fated engine swap job and that is less stressful to deal with than a relationship with a woman. And that's factoring in that I'll be paying off the debt from the failed engine swaps for another 16 months. Build yourself up, experience the world and do not EVER let people convince you that you need to be torn down to be accepted.
That's a tough one... I have a "wild" relationship with my gf. We are either happy, having fun or in love but then other times we are just arguing, breaking up and yelling at each other. I love her I ain't gonna lie but it is just so stresfull... The bad moments are overflown with the good ones yes but my BMW E90 330i is always in a good mood and never gets me sad and angry... So yeah having a car hobby is much more relaxing, easier and ur never gonna get mad but it ain't the true love I can tell you that

I just recently got out of an almost 4 year relationship that put me into a fair amount of debt because they never worked or helped with anything really but it just never seemed like a good time to leave, but now I am moved into a house with a bunch of friends, much better environment, and can finally work on paying my car off to buy something I want. It hurts and its weird but at the same time its kind of liberating and I am excited to focus on me, I am in no rush to get into anything
You point out the most important, I use that time for my cars and college classes GPA, studying in my cars. Just leaving the noisy environment from family arguments over who watches which TV programs on the Living room screen. I studied near shopping malls and 24 hour study areas in my University. Dating someone during college years would be very difficult, if they don’t live near campus but you would naturally want to meet up with them.
You posted this at the perfect time. Got myself out of a bad 2 year relationship in August , completely threw myself into the car scene and my car since then. After quite some time to myself I genuinely feel ready for a relationship. Alone time is fun and needed for everyone at some time tbh.
Tried the dating scene in high school and college, but it detracted time from my studies. After college my focus was on a job. After job it was improving my home furnishings, getting a garage, inheriting a project car, buying my first NEW car, and getting my motorcycle license. Now it's getting my landscape drawing hobby dialed in, finishing getting my project car road ready, squaring away some loans by next year, and moving back home in 2 year and getting myself a house there. Realistically I'm not going to actually be set until I'm 27 I wager. I've been through and am still going through a lot of self-growth since I graduated high school. Life has a lot to offer and I've been taking in as much as I can. My own parents didn't settle until their late 30s/early 40s, so I guess I'll carry the tradition. lol
Mine was really a heart break and realized how trapped and selfless I was. So just started to focus on my self and be selfish. Bought all the things I wanted and it really is great! Fun too.

And why im single?...im too busy with my engines... I always work on my car or bike even ifs not broken i just like to open the valves cover and look at the camshaft... Trust me a car will break your heart, you ever spend 10k on a wrx engine just to have it blow tf up, then buy a brand new engine and have it fully built just to strap a bigger turbo on it so it can blow up AGAIN. That’s heartbreaking

On days oof, I would drive 3 hours to see my grandfather's grave and let him know what I've been up to then go over to the museum and try to escape reality
In general when it comes to hobbies and relationships, you will never be happy unless you can keep a balance between the 2. A lot of women are insecure or are too clingy so any moment not spent with them or around them will be spent with nagging. Obviously if you always have that voice complaining about how you spend too much time doing what you like you're going to be put off. In the end you’re not going to enjoy either. I was in a relationship for almost 2 years with a 11/10 girl...like, she could’ve easily made it as an instamodel. Her family loved me and I truly liked being around her but, only thing was that she was a bit clingy. We would spend time together every single day despite not living together yet that still wasn't enough. Sometimes I just wanted some “me” time and my “me” time always involved either tinkering and poking at the car, looking at it or cruising around. My gf wouldn’t have a meltdown or anything but, she would always make little comments insinuating that I loved my car more than I did her... it was super annoying because obcourse that wasn’t true. I would do night cruises every night when there was little traffic so I could really get to drive and get to hit that redline and shift through them gears. It was great although my gf would always insist on talking though the car audio while I was doing my thing. It would always fuck the whole experience up. I didn’t go to in to detail but, its collection of stuff like that which made me just say fuck it and move on at some point. I’m with another person which has been with me for a year now. She knows nothing or really cares for cars but, she knows it’s something I like and let’s me enjoy it. She knows I love her and enjoys that fact that I have hobbies even if sometimes I don’t get to spend time with her because of it. She and I both know she knows nothing about cars but, she’ll still listen to me and have her own little constructive inputs when I talk to her about cars. She has her own hobbies(makeup) and I support her in the same way that she does me even I don’t know shit about makeup. It’s great. In the end, based off my experiences, if you’re with someone who doesn’t respect your hobbies or your “you time" your better off just being alone or with someone else. Obviously though, you can’t be neglectful with your partner because if you then they would be justified in calling you out.
most women (atleast in my country) be like: its either me or your hobby (then leave you due you being not interesting after dropping your passion) or think having automotive (or other) hobbies are bad in the first place (therfore would be less interested in you) :V. Divorced after ex wife decided that she didn't want to have another kid. I was busy trying to get my real estate thing going. Was starting to make more money. So when I decided I wanted a kid, I decided to get divorced. Things have been great as far as dating, have been with way more women, have traveled more, really enjoy myself and my hard earned money way when I was married. Just haven't really found the one, or haven't connected in that way to give a very serious relationship that may lead to marriage, kids, living together, another shot.
I was and still am a full time car guy, I was in a FS team and for those who have worked will know the amount of work there is. I was in a relationship, but it didn't end well, cuz I couldn't give time properly and other reasons as well. But I have realised, when u r in a relationship, u tend to restrict urself for ur lover, which includes not buying certain items for car cuz u want to spend it on ur lover, which at the time is fully worth but after breakup sometimes it does bother u 😅, but the memories are still worth it.

Got dumped around March no dates because of lockdown and just being introverted. Got to make some more money due to more free time, treated myself with some pc and car goodies and am currently planning a project car. After that's done I'll probably give dating a shot again but for now, I'll enjoy being free.

You can tell when someone live in AZ lol I live in East Mesa. Been with my wife for 10 years in April. I’m 27 now, for 3 years now I’ve been planting In her mind that I’ll be getting the Gt350R. At first the conversation was about it not being a functional vehicle given, having kids which we have 1 now and will be having another next year. It was an argument because I didn’t care, I told her I wasn’t just going to lose myself and become a full blown old-man dad. I put my foot down that I wasn’t going to buy an SUV and we would just replace her car with the SUV. Anyways after 3 years of me, literally on Autotrader looking at what they 350R’s go for, her seeing that, putting my backgrounds as the R, watching videos and her seeing that, me buying my baby a mustang walker, oh and when we walk around our neighborhood for exercise, there’s an orange GT350 pulled in backgrounds looking sexy as hell, I’m in awe in front of her. So now we are actually ready to replace her car and I was trying to tell which car we (it’s hers but we as in family car), she would put her foot down on the car she wanted because she wouldn’t be able to drive my Shelby. She said it in her words 😅. I mean financially this was the plan but now I can with her support.

I wasn't single by choice initially, but I realized this was for the sake of my own healing. That first scenario is far more real to me than I care to admit. I’ve got both a ride and a lady. She’s an engineer herself and loves to cruise in her drop top and sit in the passenger of my car while I drive like a demon LOL. I consider myself lucky since other comp sci guys are too introverted to approach anyone and spend their free time smacking a keyboard when they’re bored. Im almost done with college but this past year has taught me so much more about money/time management, investment, and saving in order to maintain both of these things in my life. I don’t think being single is wholly selfishness, it’s about taking your time to explore your interests before you dedicate part of your life to another person; among other things... Cars aren’t everything and shouldn’t make anyone overly happy (when it breaks it can destroy your soul) but they can put a smile on your face. Enjoy your ride, the life you live at this moment, and understand that in years time most of the material things you value today will fade away and become a memory...

I can't wait until I buy my own car which is my dream car a Nissan 350Z. I am kind of sort of in the dating scene a little bit but not too involved because I have a job I got to go to, so I can move out of my parents house due to the unfortunately toxicity by my dad pretty much all the time. Don't worry I have faith that I will move out between March-June of 2021 aka before my 21st birthday.
