Where Season 1 had a good balance between plot and character, Season 2 seemed to have a little too much plot to get through and sacrificed character. If anything, they should've done the opposite.

I agree. Now I didn't see the 3rd season yet, but by the trailers and sneak peeks I've seen, YJ S3 seems to be handling everything better than S1 and of course way better than S2. For me, S2 5 year timeskip shocked me and counfused the living lights out of me. But I understand the timeskips were there mainly to be able to push the maturity level of the show. I still love the show and hope for a S4 and possible S5 and S6 since the creaters mentioned wanting to do more if they're able to.
@kradeiz

Precious Coardes I’ve seen the first half of Season 3 and have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it’s more focused irt characters and there’s only been a two year time skip instead of five. On the other, the series has gotten considerably darker. This is just my opinion but I thought S1 had a good balance of light and dark elements so seeing the series going that route isn’t really for me. I’ll keep following YJ but for me its best days are probably done.

I like season 2 but I definitely agree that season 1 was far superior. My biggest problem is absolute that the cast has become far too big. With all these characters, it's hard to give characters the focus they needs and as a result, they can't be developed and I can't be attached. Like I'd say of the new characters, Arsenal, Blue Beetle, and Impulse had the most development but even these guys didn't compare to the focus the main 6 characters had in the first. Why, even characters like Red Arrow, Zatanna, Dr. Fate, and Red Tornado had more focus in that season than these new characters do. It's a serious problem and in addition to this, our OG main 6 don't get enough focus either. Their season 1 focus was also superior and this season really suffers from the lack of focus on central characters. And again, I did like season 2 overall, but the first season had much more cohesive characters and corresponding engagement.

While I don’t think it’s as good as Season 1, I think Season 2 is still very good. I for one, liked the time jump and the mystery of unraveling why these characters are where they are. Season 3 i think is in between both of the seasons so far as there are some fantastic episodes in there but some others that drag. I can’t wait to see how season 3 concludes

If its not a mystery then I dont like when a show tries to make the viewer create their own fun experience. Its a lazy way to create audience investment. The real reason why we didnt get any info on the time skip was because they were creating a game that was suppose to tell you about events during the time skip but it was delayed until YJI was actually finished. The game itself was also terrible just to save you some time. It was like a discount off brand version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
@Aldrius

@laz kar No...? They explain most everything important retroactively. And they certainly didn't forget. Nightwing became the leader, Kid Flash and Artemis retired, Aqualad betrayed the league as part of a plot by Nightwing to beat the Light at their own game. It might be jarring, but everything IMPORTANT is certainly showcased or explained. It's just not told linearly. It's not an A-B-C-D story where we follow the young heroes. And that's on purpose. We're playing catch up with what the heroes have been doing because now the HEROES are the ones with a scheme (that the audience is slowly discovering) rather than the Light.

Hey do not insult someone for having a fucking opinion! Look S2 was flawed and had loads if problems but it was no where near as bad as GOT S8. They call out Dick's behaviour several times in the show, so it us not like they ignored it or anything. Yes the time skip was unnecessary and they did not explain everything. That is something into agree with. However, BVS was trash and most DC fans will agree that it is trash. Not all DC fans are immature and they can be very mature and recognise quality. S2 was no where near as good as S1, but it had its moments and still better than the early DCEU films. No need to be a prick.

Honestly, them trying to tie together the whole thing through a TV show, a comic series, and a video game just muddied everything. For one the video game was a flop, and it was what was supposed to tie season one to two. That's what explained the entire time jump. The game itself got no publicity, poor distribution, a dry arc, and was poorly made. This crucial piece of understanding for everyone ruined everything. The comics had influence over the plot, but it didn't do anything as substantial as the video game with trying to fill in the gap between S1 and S2. It was mainly filler for between the episodes, especially in S1. The thing with the comics was, that, nobody was going to take time to read comics. They honestly went too ambitious and never really had the support of their studio either.

The time skip just really hurt the show financially. The show made its money via toy sales. Already, the first season toy sales were considerably low. But after the time skip in season two, they made to make new character toys (and there were a lot to add) and also change all the designs of the previous characters who changed during the time skip, while still making the old season one toys. It cost them way too much and the sales were very low. That’s why the show was canceled. I’m glad we got a season three, but I’m sure a ton of fans can’t pay for the membership to watch it, which worries me. Hopefully, they can continue for a couple more seasons, because it really is an amazing show.

Honestly, I think an in between season would’ve benefited. It could’ve had - Dick Grayson slowly transition to nightwing, dropping the Robin mantle so that Jason Todd can step up - Have Jason Todd die towards the middle of the season, leading Wally and Artemis to reckon with their future as heroes - Have a mystery with villains coming up comatose, with Conner being suspicious that Megan is involved, leading to a breakdown in their relationship - Introduce Wonder Girl, a new Robin and Beast Boy (to ease into the larger cast) - It can be seen that Aqualad is willing to do whatever he needs to do for a mission I think all of this will do legwork for a timeskip. From here we have a reason why we skipped Jason Todd and went to Tim Drake, why Wally and Artemis left, why Aqualad would go behind his friend’s backs and why Ms. Martian and Superboy would break up.
@milkshakedraws6944
@milkshakedraws6944 Год назад
I think an interesting concept for this hypothetical season would be Megan neglecting Gar during her violent phase. It’d be neat to have this S2 show her at her lowest point, with the time she finally accepts Gar back into her life and invites him to the team being her resolution. However, to keep the S3 narrative, you have a final scene of her going behind the team’s back and incapacitating someone like Professor Ivo, who poses a strong threat to everyone with his inventions. Or, since Harley Quinn is entirely absent from the show to my recollection, have Harley be Megan’s victim as revenge for her association in the death of Jason Todd, with Joker’s abuse of her being the excuse.
@cabin7slytherpuffempath
@cabin7slytherpuffempath Год назад
Honestly, I think S2 should have used Jason Todd as our main Robin and let Tim Drake shine in S3 as leader of the Outsiders team they used in promos (yet didn't actually use for some reason). Jason is never allowed to be a Robin and is usually skipped into being Red Hood, which- while I love Red Hood- is missing out on tons of potential stories. Not to mention it would hit that much harder that a character we spent a season connecting with would be presumed dead in the next. Finally, giving Tim a season to properly be explored as a leader would be nice, as he's rather underutilized and undercharacterized in the actual show.

Your analysis really hits on the conclusion I've come to regarding Young Justice (and really, any other media)- it's better when it's character focused. I love the parts of Invasion that are genuinely character driven as much as I love the same things in the first season. The second season just ends up having more Plot to push through to get to those moments, since the more drawn out season long plot doesn't leave as much room to play with the characters as the one-off stories did in season 1. I've really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this series, it's been a heck of a ride! Cant wait to see what you get up to next.

My gripes with Young Justice season 2: lack of intro - A good intro is a part of show's identity, it can also serve as an introduction to the new viewers or to the current episode/season. Season 1 had kind of generic intro, but with time it grew on me and I really like how it showcases our protagonists and single frames from current episode, accompanied by a kickass score. Season 2 has a title card. I get it, we immediately get into the story, but it's still a missed opportunity. time jump - That really confused me, but at the same time made me realise I really liked our heroes and wanted to see more of them. I still want to know: what made Kid Flash and Artemis quit the team? How did Aquagirl die? How did Jason die (since we see he was part of the team and is thought to have died)? What happened in between? I honestly wouldn't mind if they made a prequel season filling us in on this time frame. killing off Kid Flash - I knew it was gonna happen, but it still felt like a punch to the gut. After emotions settled in, however, I realised that was really more for a shock value than for a storytelling. One more thing that came into my mind: How to improve Aqualad twist - I really liked it, but some time later I thought about how to make it more impactful. My idea: end episode 7 with the team mourning Artemis death, but don't show the audience that she's alive. Instead make them learn it at the same time as Miss Martian. When she wipes Aqualad's mind, have us go through his memories with her and only then show us the original ending of episode 7 as well as the rest explainning his true motivations.

The 5 year time jump still hurts to this day for me. It’s a weird thing to say, especially since this is just a cartoon show, but it was more than that. I was invested in this show, I loved it and it’s core Season 1 characters. But that time jump ruined so much for me. And the people who told me that I shouldn’t watch the 2nd season because it wasn’t made for me, to stop whining and accept that I’m not getting the OG team, they didn’t help either. I felt so alienated from the show to the point that I couldn’t enjoy the story or the new characters. So I stopped watching the season once I was almost to episode 10 and never finished. There is a huge disconnect for me because of the new characters Apart from who we already know i can't tell anything about a lot of the new ones Take for example tim, we are told he is under the shadow of the previous robin- jason but I can't tell you if tim is doing ok by being in his shadow because we the audience can't feel the wait of the shadow jason left behind I also can't tell you what Tim's backstory is because we haven't been told anything about him, so anything i can guess off of the comics can be debated with no right or wrong answer, tim REALLY doesn't HAVE a character because he hasn't been shown to have one- i don't feel anything towards him witch sucks because he's my favourite character And then we don't even get to see him and cassie- the audience hasn't seen them share screen time together so we don't even know if they are good for each other- season 4 is all about cassie complaining about tim, and due to what little screen time they have is detected to cassie saying tim is a bad boyfriend and him just straight up not having a voice actor Tim pre new 52, had gone through so much and that pain can tell so many stories he was truly the next batman- but if you are a different media then comics then tim is the most hated character ever And this tim is no different, he's probably one of the worst interpretations of tim, because to include tim you have to write for jason who is only a character people care about once he comes back from the dead or you have to write about damian trying to kill him but we can't do that because this is a show made for kids We aren't giving a reason to care about a lot of characters and it really shows in the writing because the writers instead of writing everything together separate all parts of the universe that make up dc Young justice should have had tim be in the main 6, and dick can be running the teen titans The titans can have there giant 'T' while like in the show the young justice can be covert and over seen by the justice league- but instead the writers panic because they have to include ALL these characters (who are in high demand or are just well liked) and include an original plot and it doesn't work We have been told that wally is dead and is never coming back, I like how he was written as the slowest speedster because before he was just Barry despite the fact he copied Barry's lab experiment- but apparently we have also been told that there is no speed force- if there was a speed force he could have been trapped and when he does come out of it become faster, this is the only way I would have been happy with his return but I agree that death should not be reversible unless absolutely necessary

To be honest, I felt like season 1 was amazing whilst I felt myself skipping through most of s2. I feel like the 5 year time gap robbed me of having more screen time with my favourite character, Robin (Dick Grayson), and that in the second season he was pretty dull. He never gave any jokes, sarcastic comments, snarky smirks or catchy phrases like he used to, which was what made the team feel so diverse and dynamic. I feel as though they introduced wayyyy too many characters and we missed out on seeing any actual character development take place. One of the biggest surprises was when Tim Drake and Cass were discovered as a couple at the end of the season, even though I’d only seen like one scene with them actually communicating, and only in a short discussion. I just felt let down and kind of confused, like I’d missed a season or something

In Young Justice, the timeskip radically changes every single character we grew attached to without finishing their arcs, and then abandons them for new characters. There was little satisfying payoff for any of them. Even in the most recent season, it doesn't feel like most of the S1 characters had proper complete arcs.

There easily could have been 2 or 3 seasons in between season 1 and Invasion. So much happened during that time skip that I would have loved to have seen. Robin's transformation into Nightwing, Beast Boy being adopted by the Doom Patrol and their eventual deaths, Jason Todd's ENTIRE STORY THAT WAS COMPLETELY SKIPPED which is even more frustrating now that he's come back in season 3. Donna Troy/Troia's time in the team too for that matter. So much missed opportunity.

Yes, sadly the 5 year skip took the characters of season one and turned into something different, the plot felt rushed and the focus was disproportionate between the characters. The worst proof of that is Tim and Cassie becoming a couple at the end. They had zero screentime together, so how it's that we should believe they like each other? Also, personally i didn't like the end of Mal Duncan /Guardian subplot. It supposed to be about him letting the past go and taking control of his own life, instead was about him becoming a superhero to get his girlfriend back.

I really liked the stuff with blue beetle especially, as he is a hero I didnt really have any experience with outside of the death of the former blue beetle from back when i read "the death/ a world without/return of superman". I enjoyed getting to know and learn about the new character. For me personally I enjoyed the twists and turns the plot took and how the time skip stuff was handled, for me it was enjoyable piecing stuff together as I went and they revealed new bits of information. I do agree with that the Timeskip made everything so distant and I wish we got more insight on what happened during those 5 years (they honestly could have made a movie or a mini-series based on it) but instead made a shitty video game of it. I would like to get to know more about Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, as well as the original cast. Maybe Young Justice wasn't all that great, it wasn't flawless but it reminded me of what TV cartoons should have been like The Last Airbender or Teen Titans for example.

I definitely agree with you that YJ:I was pretty disappointing, and mostly for the same reasons. But the worst part, I think, is that for a season that was so heavily plot-driven... the plot wasn't even that great. There was a lot of tension in the beginning, but because at the end the writers decided they wanted to shock us rather than giving us a satisfying conclusion, it just felt... too easy. Everything was solved off camera so that we can see the heroes surprise the Light just before the final episode. The same happened with the conclusion to Blue Beetle's arc: in the end, the characters all knew and were secretly looking for a solution... somewhere... off camera... And the worst part is that I did get invested in some arcs. I liked Blue Beetle and Impulse's arc a lot! I was really interested in them! But, as you said, because the treatment of all character arcs is pretty superficial, it wasn't satisfying. No arc in this season was satisfying to me. If I cared about a character because I saw some potential there, or because I loved them from the previous season, their arc was solved pretty quickly and without nearly enough development. I liked Kid Flash A LOT in season one, but here... well, he wasn't in it for the most part, and the first half of the season focused heavily on how worried he was for his girlfriend to the point he didn't even care all that much when KIDS were kidnapped by the aliens. Basically, he was a prick up until the final episodes (and, arguably, Bloodlines). I liked Nightwing a lot, but we don't see much of his struggles or an actual focus on how much he sucks as team leader (and he does). Season 3 addresses this a bit more, but in Season 2... I mean... he's not even a great detective in this season, because for the plot to work he had to not be aware of stuff that was REALLY obvious. And poor Aqualad... this season did him so much wrong. All of his struggles are really interesting, but, as you say, we don't actually get to see them for the most part. Honestly? You could show us his journey and still make us doubt about his loyalties. Maybe he isn't with Nightwing, maybe his pain and suffering and the good relationship he now has with his father are actually getting to him, maybe he's taking advantage of Nightwing... Can we really trust him? And all that. It's good tension! But... nah. Let's focus on plot twist!! There's so much more that was pretty disappointing for me, and yet I admit to have rewatched season 2 a lot more than season 1. S1 was better written but the slow pace kills me a little bit, while S2 is overall a lot more entertaining. But man, do I get angry at some episodes. You nailed all the problems this season had.

I love this series, binged the first two seasons recently. My main issue with the second season is how it feels kind of rushed at times. There are moments in late episodes where the script seems very trigger-happy with exposition dumps. (One example being the 18th episode; right after a strike team with Rocket and Zatanna and others manage to find a Bialyan ruin and help Blue Beetle get 'off-mode' for good, they spend a solid two minutes on the trip back home just talking about how the whole set-up for that op happened. Like, whatever happened to "Show, Don't Tell"?) I get that this might be because YJ:I only lasted twenty episodes and they had to wrap things up more quickly than season one (which lasted 26) due to the network cracking the whip. I very much agree that the second season had a ton of good ideas, but there was a good amount of wasted potential.

The biggest problem with the time skip was the fact that it was handled, but in a poorly received, under commercialized video game that only the hardest core fans knew about. Maybe they could have turned that games story line into a mini series and that would have fixed a large amount of the problems. Then again maybe not, but it was a clear miss step that seemed to kill an other wise brilliantine show. Over all I'm just glad it has gotten it's second chance with netflix and hope to see it continue for at lest a few more seasons.

Another Great discussion Lowart. Personally I liked the start of Season 2. The time jump skipped over a lot of events that I think would have been cool to see played out, but I don't think it was that necessarily all that detrimental. Instead of telling us what is happing and leaving us to question what is going to happen. It told us what the result was from the start and had us asking instead what happened to get them there. We still can explore the characters by learning about the past events and what happened to them to lead them to this point. It just flips the normal narrative structure to something less common, but I still thought it worked well. Although I will admit that first episode was pretty jarring, especially since it doesn't immediately establish that we have moved so far into the futures since the last episode. Still I felt that the first part of the season was doing a pretty good job up until they actually finished answering those questions and we started looking forward again. Then it did start to loose it's footing. I agree that there are too many characters. I liked most of them and did care about what was going on with them, but there sheer number meant it didn't really have the time to focus on anyone for too long in order provide very much meaningful character growth for a many of them. They also dropped several characters from the first season that I wasn't too fond with. Although I didn't notice while I was watching how Clone Speedy sorta was dropped mid season, which was a good point. But what I did notice was how they dropped Red Tornado for the most part and Zatana especially. This was really disappointing for me since the first season really had her start to become a full member of the team. And doubly Ironic considering that the Reach seemed to be weak vs magic and she would have been extremely useful in battles against them. Maybe that is why she got dropped Like I said I liked the start of the season but once the Reach were introduced that is really where it started to fall apart for me. When we start out working toward uncovering the light it felt like a logical extension from the first season and kept me interested but then the plot takes a dramatic shift with the Reach arrival and all the starting villains except maybe Luther take a back seat, so when we do have confrontations with them they don't fell impactful. And the Reach just sort of show up and we don't have any connection or exploration of them so those confrontations often felt just as hollow. The characterization of the reach is also wildly inconsistent and nonsensical. At one point it explained that their tech is so advanced and powerful that they were almost unstoppable. And at some point in the season that seems to be the case with hero's getting their ass handed to them by black beetle and being almost completely unable to harm him. And yet somehow this race got defeated by other aliens and can now only go where they are invited? If they where so invincible how did these other raced defeat them and if where such a threat why would they let them continue to exist and leave this caveat for them to exploit? And then the question come up about their operation. If these beetles are so massively powerful why do they only employ 1 or 2 of them (3 once they get blue back) . They appear to be almost impervious to damage, can self repair, and completely loyal in normal circumstance. Why wouldn't all of your troops just be these guys. Or very least, why wouldn't the ambassador and the scientist have their own equivalent suits. But at some points they are shown to be extremely weak. Aqualad takes out Blue with even the most basic magic spell like they it was nothing. Zatana and Fate are still around too but never get utilized to counter them even after the heroes learn about this weakness? And then the finally occurs and there are like 50 of these automated beetle turrets that are supposed to be using the same tech as the beetles that where almost invincible before but now get trashed by nearly everyone? The introduction of the Reach is also where the cast started to balloon and we lost a lot of the character focus that was a big issue As far as Wally's death I don't necessarily mind it I just don't think it was explained very well. They don't really established why he was needed there. Sure he shows up to help Flash and Impulse but the show never established that he was crucial to their success. As such his sacrifice felt meaningless to me. Why didn't he just peel off or one of the others shove him away when they passed him? And since we didn't get the same focus as season 1 on the characters and you discussed the impact was less potent Over all I liked how the season started and it had the potential to go some interesting places even if I would have also rather just followed the characters stories from season 1 instead of the time jump, but ultimately where they went and how it was handled left me disappointed as well. Having gone back and watched the entire series (when you started these videos) I have to say I agree with you. The show isn't as great as I remember. But it had a lot of great moments and characters and I felt it was still a very good show for the most part, even if I thought they dropped the ball at the end of S2.

I personally didn't like season 2 really at all because of, how you had said, it shifted the focus off of the characters. The first season spent all that time fleshing out and developing its characters and individuals and as a group, so even with its faults, it was very enjoyable, but then the 2nd season turned them into, as you said, 'strangers', and separated them from eachother and from the audience. While the new cast of characters aren't bad by any means, i just felt really cheated and disappointed that the characters the show put so much energy into making good get cast aside and changed dramatically in favour of other characters who weren't developed either and, with more emphasis, the plot.

I think that season 1 is absolutely as great as I remember it but due to the fact that it was only 1 season and all the reasons you listed about season 2, it is difficult to say that the show itself was great. If I'm going to look at the show overall, I'd have to say the best descriptor is "disappointing." Season 1 will always hold a special place in my heart as a show with great characters that I love and care for but the over-arching story fell short. I'd say the story was amazing if you considered "the story" to be the teams development but seeing how the show progressed, it's obvious that wasn't the plot they really wanted to focus on. i personally hate how they treated tim drake i knew nothing about tim until i read the comics, and seeing him in the second season only made me think "oh, so he's a more serious, batman like robin with no character?" only to start reading his comics to find out he's a wise jokester, that always tries to make the best decisions and lighten the mood in every situation he's in, while also being serious when he needs to be, while the first robin is more of a young, arrogant, and obnoxious character which season one portrayed very accurately it's really shown in the "no unnecessary risks to the squad, that's an order" line nightwing says to robin. it really doesn't fit his character to say that to tim, maybe if he said that to damian or jason, then yeah, but he should know that tim doesn't take unnecessary risks unless there is no other choice. instead, he'd do what he truly feels is best, and nightwing should know that, so that line totally doesn't fit in line with tim's character as seen in other media

I think just taking some of the important changes out of the time skip would have improved the season a lot without even changing much else. Leave Aqualad's story, that twist was interesting and drove the plot well. Artemis and Kid Flash should have still been on the team, but on their way out (thus we could have seen that decision happen). Ms M and SB shouldn't have changed. That way, SB and Ms M would have been the nostalgic/emotional core, without that love triangle drama there would have been more time to spend on less developed characters like Blue and Artemis. Artemis and Wally being around more could have given the space to explore Nightwing's leadership better too. Basically the writers wanted to give all of the original 6 some big twist + arc AND new characters + plot and that was too much. Cut out half the twists and focus in more on Artemis, Aqualad, Blue Beetle as mains and Wally, Nightwing, Clone Roy as the major secondary characters and it would have been better

This season was a mess, but rather than the timeskip, for me the real killer was the lack of focus and pacing. They introduced so much new characters but only focused barely on two of them, the worst part is that no one got time to properly shine, not the old cast nor the new ones. Batgirl and wonder girl could be erased from the season and literally absolutely nothing would change im not exaggerating when I say they only appear on screen like 5 times through all the season. Then you have the pacing, it felt rushed, it was clear they had to cut a lot of stuff and wrap up the conclusion before due. They set up the invasion in a semi realistic way with the aliens taking the planet playing the long game only for all that to crumble so easily. The whole deal of blue beetle being controlled and the reason behind the apocalyptic future got solved literally offscreen, batgirl just shows up saying that she somehow found a magical cure with Zatanna and five minutes later all is good. Bad guy of the season also gets put on check just as easily but before leaving he hits the destroy the earth button because holly shit we have so much runtime left after beating the invasion in two minutes. And don't get me started on the Artemisa death bait that got revealed to be fake in the same goddamn episode!! why??! why "kill" a character if you are going to show so quickly it was a ruse, you didn't even had time to be sad before it was shown she was fine. This was actually one scenario where the offscreen treatment could had actually worked but they ruined the payoff immediately. Sorry for the ramble but I just can't comprehend how something as neatly packaged as season 1 derived into this mess.

So, I didn't watch Young Justice until years after it had finished. I watched the whole show on netflix about 2 or 3 years ago, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't one of those things I watched as a kid. So I'll say that while I did definitely enjoy the show, I have to agree with this. That time skip was jarring. It didn't seem warranted. It seemed like they just wanted to skip time to jam in as many other characters as they wanted. I honestly thought I'd missed the second season and skipped to the third somehow. They should have done a season where all this bad stuff happens. Show the deterioration of relationships, show kid flash's dissatisfaction with being a hero, backing away and quitting at the end with Artemis, Aqualad's arc where he starts trying to talk to his father, reason with him, then have a 'betrayal' in the finale. Show the recruitment of the new members, do a whole episode with Beast Boy finding out about the powers gotten from Miss Martian, because that would be a really good episode, maybe even two. The problem with season 2 is that it's the classic issue of 'show don't tell' and they didn't show enough. Oh well. I haven't seen any of Season 3 yet, either, so I can't judge anything there, but I hope it's going alright.

Young Justice season 1 was fantastic. Young Justice season 2 was *good* but there were alot of things that needed to be explained. For example: How far was the time jump between season 1 and 2?, where did all these new team members come from? And a whole lot of other stuff that we either didn't get to see or were just never explained. Show us Garfield morphing into Beast Boy, Dick taking on the leader role and becoming Nightwing, a recruitment montage of all the new characters being recruited, a breakup of Megan and Connor, Artemis and Wally retiring. We needed to see that stuff but season 2 was still really enjoyable and i think that Young Justice holds up as one of the best DC shows to this day.

I haven't actually finished Invasion (I think Depths was the last one I saw) or watched more than clips from Outsiders, but so far I have found season one to be my favorite. My biggest problems at this point are really just one - pacing. It feels like things are either happening too fast or too slow, but is like this should have been done as several two or three-part episodes or a series of movies/specials with what I've seen so far. This may have come from the time skip and/or many of the major League members being gone, but I found that the Reach seems to be having too easy of a time convincing people to accept them. In fact, I even feel like the 16 hrs explanation was poor. It seems logical, but it also doesn't make sense. Since everything is vague due to the fact that we focus on the Team with little in show information about the League, it is unclear in season 1 if they were known outside of Earth and Mars. Seems like Invasion decided they were unknown until the end of Season 1, but that they still had Green Lanterns and the Hawks, so they were known(?), but ignoring this, I question why Vandal Savage would have sent them out to space rather than on earth other than for there to be no trace of them. There are two ideas that I have - one, someone else approached Vandal and convinced him to send the League to the location to create chaos(still need the League to be known for this), or Vandal knows more than we do and needed the League to go to get help or warn others from coming to earth(which doesn't seem to make sense either). I don't buy that this was his way to get rid of the League by making them Intergalactic criminals, it again makes more sense as something happens on earth without any means to track the activities. Ultimately, the space thing is a good idea for a Justice League show, but with most of the team retired or working with the new team, I don't like it. I think a smaller unrelated to season 1 Intergalactic event could have worked better to call the League away from earth. It can still be part of the "get the League out of the story" trope, but it can more easily tie into the Reach's plot rather than being a coincidence that seems to contradict if it was part of the Reach's plan(can't remember/don't know if that was actually the case). I managed to come into Young Justice knowing about the time skip, so I didn't mind and assumed a lot would be explained during the season, but I am very mixed about it. I think that a time skip was necessary, but it should have been to sometime before Robin becomes Nightwing. From the mixed storylines that are combined for fanfiction, I can tell that there should have been major changes and struggles that Robin went through before becoming Nightwing. I also think that it would have enabled the audience to get a better understanding of why each character was where they were at the start of Invasion. How this in between should work is that since the end of season 1, the team has been growing, but all new members are the first partners to their mentors. We could also see that a search is happening for the original Roy, but we also get clarification that the time lost, the fact that clone Roy stepped into original Roy's place, and the fact that Roy is also Speedy means that it is becoming unlikely for even the League to find the original. During this, we find out the Bruce Wayne took in Jason Todd, so here comes Robin drama. Batman and Robin have poor communication about the fact that Batman thinks it's time for Robin to choose a new name while Robin thinks that Batman wants to replace him. Que more drama since now Dick/Robin is conflicted, he had no problem with Jason joining the family, but now Batman wants a new partner. Time to rant to the Team. Time passes and Robin becomes Nightwing while Jason becomes Robin and joins the team. We can also see that although everyone has still lived, the missions are becoming more dangerous up until two major losses happen - Robin and Tula. This can be the same or different missions, but I lean toward different with Robin first. Now the Team takes a hard look at what they've been doing and if they want to go on. I can't decide if I want this to be a cliffhanger finale before picking with Invasion or if there should be more in-between stuff, but I'll continue with this a cliffhanger. Now that we have some more context to the time skip, Invasion starts as it did, but a few characters are picked as the core protagonists. I would suggest Nightwing, Miss Martian, Blue Bettle, Impulse, Aqualad, and Batman. I picked Batman because I want to see more about the trial sooner than we do since space travel is confusing when it comes to how long it takes, but I also want to see more of the League trying to work behind the scenes to whatever limited extent they can. I haven't seen how that part goes yet, but I feel like it was a way to use the 16 hrs of memory loss to get the heroes off earth so that we can make the League look bad without making the bad guys do anything tough. I honestly think that is a big problem for the villains in Invasion, everything seems to just be handed to them without any clear context for why the League is disliked beyond "They keep secrets" and "They're not (normal) humans" which could work if we didn't already see that new members are announced at the end of season 1 and they seemed to be well-liked in season 1. This issue could have been solved by showing that beyond Young Justice members and the Watchtower (aka Black Ops team and real HQ, two things that I think are logical secrets) they've started acting like the JLU Season 2 League where there are so many secrets and members. The other way this could be helped is that the amount of powered teens is increasing and the League appears to be indifferent and doing nothing to help. One or both of these facts could be used with what we got to have everything fit better. Otherwise, mix and match plot and character development to your heart's content to reimage Invasion as it could have been. Other time skip missing detail fix-its 1 - Keep the skip, but focus on the original 6 and how things look different as adults - aka why the news is so negative while people mostly liked the League in Season 1 2 - Add a half-season (13 episodes) or a full season in between as an explanation for character developments and foreshadowing 3 - Smaller time skip and same or different plot, but probably different to keep Impulse with the same team 4 - Include a few specials/movies to fill the time skip 5 - Didn't explain above, but show how much pressure Nightwing was under (self-inflicted or not) since at a minimum you have: Batman and Gotham+Robin, Nightwing and Bludhaven+Team, and Wayne Interprises+Tim Drake (meaning that Dick is responsible for all these things). That's at a minimum what should be cannon to YJ no matter what, plus this excludes any League activities to which I say "insert Batman's explanation for why he never does any public events for the League," any interactions with the League of Shadows/Assasins(is there a reason to use a certain name or is it just two different names for the same group for no reason), if any all member League disasters occur, if Dick is going to college, and if Dick/Nightwing is dating anyone. I figure that even the minimum that he needs to be doing to protect their identities/prevent mass chaos would put a lot of strain on Dick before accounting for however he feels going into this with having Aqualad in as a double agent and the deaths of Jason and Tula.

I think this is where they should have kept the series at. Season 3 should have stayed in this year. So they could really flesh out the new characters, I'd say every new team member managed to get some fleshing out but why not take it further. Let's see how lagoon boy dealt with his break up, how impulse deals with living up to Wally and taking up the mantle of kid flash etc. Flesh out tim and cassie's relationship, show(well maybe not show but at least have it happen and then have the characters react to it) Barbara becoming oracle, show more of Artemis' grief. The list could go on, don't get me wrong I did like season 3 and I'm glad the show finally got a season 3 but c'mon, another time jump.

Although I disagree, as I like the time skip in that it fleshes things out with worldbuilding, (the tie-in comics explain what happened as well) I love your analysis, and overall your style. I enjoy your videos.

Honestly, the comics that take place between the time jumps were surprisingly well done and enjoyable. I'm not a person who typically likes to read, but the stories that the comics shed light actually contributed to character building, as well as relationship building

I disagree with you on the time skip. I think it set up a couple emotional impacts. For example when superboy tells miss Martian "you knew what your touch in my mind meant to me" that hot so hard cus we just had to imagine what she could have done. The idea of the time skip and not being told exactly what happens it leaves us to think. "What happened that could have pushed this" and that at least for me made me connect more and pay closer attention to the minor details. Super boys fixed brother relationship with superman. And everything seems to connect organically and if you examine the little details you can draw the conclusions for yourself. It helps with the subtleness and makes it more food for thought then oh look what happened. I think it helps but I also respect your opinion
