I would recommend leaving your bucket on and go forward through the thicket. With your bucket close to the ground you can knock over most of the highest stuff so your mower deck don't work as hard. Nice set up

I was thinking the same thing. Pushing back into the thick stuff looked painful.

Also with the bucket on and low to the ground things like hidden stumps, old cars etc in the brush will stop you before you run over them and damage your tractor.

@@PinMonkey1960 pushing back into the brush kills the wheels and wheel mounts. It also puts an extreme amount of pressure on the hitch itself.

That was entertaining, productive, and enjoyable to watch. The not-in-use tower building and surrounding area look better when the greenage is cleared. The Rhino does the job; the clover cutting gives the machine a rest before returning to the heavy brush. Thanks, TTWT.

In my experience its best to go forward. I always have my bucket on to for thick tall stuff. I use my tractor to push it over and get it to leaning the way I want when the brush hog cuts it. I find I can brush hog bigger thicker and faster this way. Plus if there is something big hopefully I can see it before I hit it with the mower. but your method worked too. God bless

Cool mic set up! Looking forward to how you did it. Been looking for a good mic to record audio as i record video. Got a corded lapel mic but want a cordless one! Love all the video's, when I was younger I work many years for a local grain farmer. My favorite job was mowing ditches waterways and other areas. My favorite tractor to mow with was a JD 4020 (power shift) with a John Deere 25a flail mower. I do remember one day mowing a ditch, and the back roller got stuck on a Cedar tree stump and threw me into the steering wheel. Almost knocked the wind out of me, that was a fun day! Thank you for working so hard to record all the videos!

Tim, thanks for your work sharing all this with you. May I suggest that you stop babying the shreader. By riding the clutch in the tractor, you are potentially damaging the tractor clutch, which is harder and more expensive to replace than the clutch on the mower. If you will raise the deck up quite a bit for your first passes, you will quickly sort out the big stuff from the small stuff...good luck...couple of passes will fix it up.

next time you get to the dealer, buy a bucket. Put it on, lower bucket to 4" from the ground, let cutter down low so it barely clears ground and go forward at walking speed. Your bucket will push everything down to cutting level and cutter blades will do a great job. If you have rocks, raise cutter to clear them. Cutting in forward direction with rear of cutter one inch higher will serve you well

When i do large brush, i put the bucket on to lay down the stuff so it doesn't scrape the bottom of the tractor too heavily. It also helps with visibility when "tunneling" through tall stuff. If you hit something that the bucket cant lay over, chances are its too big for the mower anyway, and like you said hydro static is also key for this kind of work.

Brush like that doesn't care if it's raining. :) Field grass, sure. I have also found that running in higher gear say A4 instead of A1 can allow for smoother clutch modulation with the pedal to slowing back into stuff. The A1 just has such a mechanical advantage it I'll engage pretty quickly with very little modulation easing into it. Great vid! Would be interesting to see one of BaumaLite 's larger PTO mulchers on Johny 5

Nice rig Tim. I use a TItan 3 point 10 footer. The Rhino is much nicer. On heavier stuff I can lift the Titan some and then back over if need be. I've got my rough ground in good shape now and don't have to do that. Just be careful of your tires. I keep a plug kit with me at all times and only go in one direction. Tim, Lee and the gang are correct, and I hate to be the nanny police telling anyone how to do something, but even as heavy built as Rhino equipment is there shredders aren't really built to back over and into heavy brush, but rather pulled and like they say if you leave your bucket on and low you'll protect your tractor well enough. I was at an equipment auction just yesterday and saw a beautiful, practically new, TS12 that set a little lopsided and when I investigated I could tell that they had backed it into something with too much resistance with one side of the center deck wheels and bent it so that it is no longer level and would require serious work to straighten out or replace. Other than that, good to see you guys having fun.

Some of the viewers must be new as they recommend using equipment that is bigger and more powerful. But as you have said you are trying to show what small compact type tractors with appropriate equipment can do. Sure a 9 foot wide forestry mower would devour all that “small” brush but that is for a different RU-vid channel. Thanks for showing what equipment that people with smaller properties have can do with the more affordable smaller equipment.

For mowing jobs you will be doing often there is a simple trick to keep the location of rocks and exposed bedrock in the area you are mowing using a hammer drill and bit to make a hole to hold a fiberglass marker rod. You get a marker that will generally be visible from the seat of the mower that highlights a spot you need to be careful in without needing to mentally map out the entire place of hazards so anyone can then do the job if you are busy/injured when it needs to be done. That the same hole in the rock will gather water and be subject to the freeze/thaw cycle and break off or break up the rock it is in is just a byproduct and slow method of rock removal.

Awesome I do this every day rough terrain and large brush huge 12’ plus weeds out here in Southern California we had a late rainy season as most of us did and wow crazy Weed Abatement season this year my poor Mowers are beat up 🤕 I’m always welding and fixing them . I was unloading this am and noticed the right Side of my land pride-brush mower the skid folded underarms is all bent up , I’m on my 3rd set of blades this seAson i sharpen them everyday and they get beat up hidden rocks and cinder blocks ugh if the tires don’t hit it ya don’t know it’s there and boom 💥 poor mower !!! The work never ends!! luckily this coming week I’m doing a large grading job installing a new driveway and circular parking area that’s never had any gravel on it ever about 500’ x 24’ then a sloped driveway with a turn around that’s about 200’x 65 ‘ with crazy ruts when it was wet this winter and a mud hole In front of the entrance . In other words let’s grade taking my land plane , box blade and grading or like a dozer Blade for ditching . New ditch’s for the road a couple gravel Culverts to direct water thing is ya gotta control the water ! I love tractor work Tim it was y’all that inspired me to take the leap and do Something different in life and wow I’ve Learned so much I’m on my 2nd tractor which is a 2008 3520 with CAB as y’all know brush hogging in an open Tractor when it’s dry and hot out is no fun and where I work is so dry and dusty hot 100 degrees plus last few weeks is just crazy . I did that my first year and went to the cab !! Now I’m think I’m going Compact Track loader and an Open station 2038r for the small jobs and the track loader for mowing and grading . I wish I had a bigger tractor but as Tim knows ya need different size Machines for the variety of jobs . Sorry I’m rambling again THANK Y’all ya helped me change my life and start and new business I’m outside getting dirty on beautiful property helping folks out I’m just loving it !! Thank you guys so so much !!!! And God Bless !!
