Wider, Faster, Stronger. What about shooting large slingshot ammo? Double Bands? Thicker Bands?

When shooting heavier ammo, do I need wider bands, double bands, or something else?
Well, let's start here. You may not need different bands at all!
You may not need anything but to tune your bands to the ammo. Your current band sets might be completely sufficient if you shorten them up a little bit.
We say this a lot but it's worth saying every single time: always make sure your bands are tuned to your ammo.
If you do find that you need more power in your bandset, you do have a few options. You can definitely make a double band set. This will give you more power for sure, but we do find that the performance gain from double band sets is not worth the trouble of doubles. Double band sets can be very finicky and quite frustrating to install.
Simply upping the thickness of the latex is a great solution. You can keep the same taper and just shoot a thicker latex and you will definitely get more power.
And finally, you could simply upgrade to a larger cut, whether a straight or taper cut.
Experiment and have fun!

Always enjoy your videos, You Looks better WITHOUT the beard. Back in grade school. We could go to the BUTCHER SHOP, and get these big rubber bands, the pouch was most often the tongue from a pair of shoes. As a second choice, Make bands from Inner-tubes. We did have HIGH TECH AMMO back then. We called them ROCKS , and MARBLES. Keep up the good work, and see if we can get MORE Slingshot Tournament’s in the USA

I'm getting a 25mm slingshot with 14-25mm/20cm taper, and will see it for myself, using 0.47mm thickness band. Usually use 12-18mm/23cm

I've noticed an obsession with power, particularly among new shooters. The majority of people don't hunt at all or rarely. Lighter bands equal accuracy. So for target and fragile game like birds, power is hurting your hit ratio not helping it. For larger game that does require extra power. Go as heavy as you can pull without shaking. You still need to hit the larger game in a vital area to ensure a clean kill. A .22lr is certainly not a deer rifle, it is if you shoot it in the eye. The same is true with a slingshot. An 8mm steely will drop a rabbit fast if you are accurate.

Found this out as well, jumped from 0,85 Bands/ 0,80 to 0,70 and the accuracy went up by a fair bit.

@@nOObels1 agreed! You are always more accurate with a lighter draw. For hunting, ultimately the question becomes "how much force does this target require and how much does my distance affect my force on target at this range?" I've split the difference with bands suited for 9.5mm steel. I need to get pretty close, but I do have some adjustment for slightly longer distances.😉

@@forksandspoons7272 will try snipersling black. 70 / 25-15 again tomorrow with 9.5 steel. Used to shoot.85 at around 18-20 meters.

adding elongation isn’t a good option because you’re adding material which slows down the bands and you’re changing your anchor position. wider thinner is the faster option because the taper would allow it to stack faster but thinner material breaks down quicker. double bands is adding further breaking points so if you have four bands tied to one pouch and one band fails then you have wasted the other bands but there are more design option variables like haven’t two lengths or different widths and tapers in one package. thicker seems like the better option but the more material you add the slower it will move. that’s one reason why 1/4 cuts better than 3/8 is because you can get it moving slightly faster but you do a lot more damage with a heavier object.

Up to a certain weight, you are correct. The thinner latex will retract faster but once over a certain ammo weight, you will need thicker latex. Shortening the elongation will also only provide increased velocity to about 50% shorter than the max elongation.

@@simpleshot i just cruised your website the other day because we were talking about marbles and now i really want your hammer master kit, that thing looks awesome! i had been making my own frames for the past three years and i was shooting flat bands and 3/8” bb but then for christmas my brother in law bought me a really cheap wrist rocket with tubes which wasn’t my flavor but then i discovered that i really like marbles and it was at a time when i was out of ammunition so i just bought 10,000 marbles and some tools for sleeving tubes and a bunch of different sizes of tubes to make some bands and then my frame broke yesterday after i had already put a couple hundred bucks into it so now i want a high quality solution and didn’t realize that you probably have the best option available (out of stock) that i can find online. hopefully i can order that soon.

I have a question for the show :) How do you best fire paintballs from a slingshot?
@simpleshot
@simpleshot Год назад
Paintballs are light but big. You need light bands with a larger ammo pouch to shoot paintballs.
