10 years ago. When this was announced we were all in a different stage of our lives and a decade on the final wave is releasing and what has felt like a journey is finally over. Thank you Nintendo for these 10 wonderful years of Mario Kart 8 and here's to the next release hopefully being sometime soon.

The beginning of a new era

In 2023, this reveal trailer will be 10 years old. It’s crazy that Mario Kart 8 as a whole is receiving more content nearly a decade since its original release on Wii U.

I was 13 years old when this trailer released just so super excited about the next generation of the Mario Kart franchise and now it's 10 years later I'm 23 with the same Mario Kart in a port form and wave 6 of the booster course pack. Time really does fly. What a great run this game has had.

This is pretty nostalgic now. I remember how amazed I was that we were getting a Mario game that looked almost as good as the official artworks, and I looked up all the information I could find about the game.

This game has changed so much since E3.

Who would've expected that we'd still play this game at the end of 2023. This game will be almost 10 years old by that time. 10 years without a new console Mario Kart. Insanity.

From humble beginnings, to what feels like the end of an era. What an amazing ride. ❤️

Can't believe this was 7 years ago and we still haven't got another proper Mario Kart game.

These graphics look next gen. The Wii U definitely deserves more respect.

I still remember how much this blew my mind when I was watching E3 live especially the graphics.

When I first saw this I thought this was pre-rendered and not actual gameplay. Then I got the game and was amazed by how good the graphics were compared to all of the other games on the system.

At the time of writing this, in less than 24 hours, this game will receive its final update after almost 10 years. What a ride.

I was 15 when this trailer dropped I was 16 when the game released I got the game when I was 17. I was 18 when the Switch Port released I got the game when I was 19. I was 21 when Mario Kart Tour was released. I was 23 when the Booster Course Pass was announced. And now I'm 25, Wave 6.

10 Years. 10 years ago, a legendary mario kart masterpiece was born.

If you told someone back when this game was first revealed that the game would not only get DLC based on Zelda and Animal Crossing, but also be ported to the next Nintendo system with additional content before some years go by before actual DLC for the game gets released in waves with courses from a mobile game based on real world locations, and also bring back cut characters like Birdo, Petey Piranha, Diddy Kong & Funky Kong and even introduce Pauline as a playable character, they’d think you’re crazy.

I was 10 when this came out. My 21st birthday is in a few months and it's insane how far the game has come, I'm sad to see this era close but I'm excited for the future.

To realize that this initial trailer for Mario Kart 8 was released 10 years ago-when I was 12 years old and approaching the end of my 5th grade year-is truly amazing. To see this game continue to receive DLC on another system-as a 22-year-old college senior-is incredible beyond words! Like many of you, I am waiting patiently for the reveal of Mario Kart 9, but let us cherish the fact that Mario Kart 8, an outstanding game, remains fresh to this day! 🏎️

How has it been 10 years😭

I remember watching this after a final exam in middle school (7th grade to be precise) as part of Nintendo Direct. You can only imagine how hyped I was for a new Mario Kart. It was what made me want a Wii U. I just graduated college with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Mario Kart 8 is still one of my favorite games around. It's crazy to think that it's been 10 years already

It’s Such a huge feeling of accomplishment .. when you Completely maxed out both the Wii U and switch versions online .. coming back after over 6 full years since the release of the game.. the nostalgia is indescribable when I first saw this trailer I thought to myself I would’ve never been able to pull that feat off ..

It's crazy how far this game has come a long way since its reveal and its the 6th best selling game of all time. As much as I want a new Mario Kart entry I'm glad Nintendo didn't leave this game in the dust to die on the Wii U. The switch let this game become the game it was meant to be

I remember seeing this for the first time in awe at the anti-gravity concept and how beautiful the graphics looked. Wii and Double Dash might be fan favorites but I think this game was a masterpiece for its time

Honestly I cannot wait for this game; it's one of the real reasons to have a Wii U. The soundtrack, the great online MK 7 and Wii had, the amazing graphics, and of course how much fun it is! So excited!

I love the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 even more than the Wii U one. But the Wii U is the reason why this game still exists today. And to make things even better, it receives even more race courses via DLCs.

If Only we Had Mk9 right now But it could be done and their Ether saving it for the Next console or the 30th anniversary of the Mariokart series in 2022

10 years on, i can safely call this the best racing game from Nintendo. Double Dash had the mechanics, and GX had the skill, but nothing will ever top this.

Is it just me, or is their lighting just a LOT better than most titles I've seen? I mean, Nintendo's usage of simple polygons really goes far, especially in regards to lighting, but this is a whole new thing for Nintendo. I'm not one for graphics at all, but that doesn't mean I don't adore new changes to things, especially graphics (it's not needed, but a VERY nice plus).

Imagine telling people in the Wii U era that this game would be ported to a much successful console and live up to 9 years still getting more content for 2022 - 2023

5 years ago man....Already 5 years ago when they announced an 8th Mario Kart game. I remember watching this before my bus came for school and everyday as it gets closer to launch I almost scream everyday. And this music will forever live in my heart

Never noticed this before; the music in this trailer doesn't feature the Mario Kart Band. This must've been before they recruited them.

I remember this E3 was so crazy with how many awesome games were shown. Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Smash bros 4, A link between worlds, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Wind Waker HD. One of my favorite E3's for sure.

Happy 10th anniversary Mario Kart 8! It's hard to believe, nobody was really expecting this back when the game first released, but MK8 managed to be the last numbered mainline Mario Kart over for 10 years now. It has been a really long road, first the great base Wii U game, then its great Updates (including 200cc) and its DLC, then the Switch port which is the definitive version to play this game (including all prior content with many QoL enhancements), then further additions via Updates, and even later the MK8DX Booster Course Pass which added so many new tracks and characters, and it was also great even if the graphical quality was not on par with the base game. Though every one of these updates, DLC packs, and other additions meant that MK9 would not be coming any time soon and that was somewhat annoying, still glad them all happened, they extended MK8's life and made it an even better game. Now that it and MKT are done, looking forward to MK9, after 10 years of MK8 it's about time for it, and it's its time to shine. After all this time, I'm sure Nintendo will be able to deliver an even better successor in the future!

I do not understand why they changed the sound effects of everything in this trailer to what we have today. The sounds we have now are super annoying, especially with no way to decrease the volume of sound effects. Sometimes I can’t even hear the music as I play

It's weird to think that 4 years passed since this trailer was released, and 3 years since this game was released. It's changed so much then, especially since MK8 deluxe added in a true battle mode. Wow, time flies!
