I love that you always end on a good note and that you are working in slow increments. (I kind of cringe at the dragging line though.) He seems like a very smart, sensible horse. I hope he found a loving home.
Go slower; get there faster….this is lovely! Beautiful energy and communication already!! Very nicely done. Your voice is so soothing and trusting, I’d turn and follow you!!!
excellent video! thank you very much for sharing your knowledge...there is a valuable lesson on the way that the horse feels, and thinks... very useful information! those lessons where really nice ones!
I come from Pendleton, Oregon where we have five days of pioneer parades and rodeo. All my childhood I wanted one of those gorgeous horses (all horses were gorgeous) and kept telling my parents we had enough room in the back yard for one. Then we went to central Oregon and saw the wild mustangs run free on film, then some brought in to be sold to those who want a horse (not dog food). I nearly went crazy. The back yard was still not big enough. A week of work on a family friend’s farm with horses, proved that I loved watching and loving horses, but the back yard and I weren’t going to work.
@@SteveDyer I've riden over the years but have yet to own one. That is my ' lifetime ' dream... I have to buy land first.... Will buy 2, no way would I have 1 only.....
Poor thing you did such a good job of training though I see people using whips I do it in such a cruel way so finally somebody who can do in a kind way
Thank you for your time and your skills that you shared with us .... I am overseas.... I would like to have Mustang or any other horse.... I wish I can contact you... So I can learn more about horses...
We visited a rescue and a untouched mustang liked taking treats from my 4 year old and myself first time meeting her. Where should or could we go from there? She comes over to see us and lets us pet her neck.
what size round pen do you use? I'm hoping to get started with a mustang next year, but I'm not sure what size to make. For adoption, you have to have a shelter for my area, but it looks like it doesn't need to be in the area they're first delivered to, which was another concern I had.
I use a 50 foot round pen. Sometimes 45 is better. You can use your round pen as a pen for the mustang, but you are right, it can also be a separate enclosure.
Thank you for your kind comments. You are not allowed to capture wild horses in the US if they are running on government land. However, there are 60,000 horses that have already been captured that can be adopted for only $125.
What do you do you do if your horse always keeps there face to you constantly how ever backs anytime if you go forward & starts shaking there head & basically freezes.. do u have a video for that..
You have to get the horse moving around the round pen. You will probably have to use a training stick or something similar to get his feet moving. Check out my video called Wild Mustang Training Silver Day 1.
Has anyone ever put a mustang into Harness? And are they receptive to pulling? My riding days are in the past, but I still love driving, and training harness horses..
My dogs would be in BIG trouble if they enter my training space with a horse. It is extreme risk, I'm personally not gonna take. I am also a TIP trainer.
Do you know anyone in the Bay Area CA who does gentling or literally anything involving training mustangs and would be open to letting someone shadow them? I’m 14, I don’t know anyone who does this kind of thing where I live but it’s been a dream of mine to work with mustangs since I was 4. I’d really like to meet someone who lives nearby who does what I want to do so that I can ask all of my unanswered questions, and maybe even get a bit of experience in the next few years!
wildhorsesonline.blm.gov/ Go to this website and fill out the application. It takes a few days to get approved. Once approved, you can go to a BLM holding facility and adopt a horse, or you can adopt one from a TIP trainer. This one is available if you are interested in him.
I have a horse for show.. he got the attack and bitting attitude… if fix him by body language… is there any chance for him to attack agin in the future
There is limited land in the west for the horses to live. Some of them must be removed in order to keep the environment from being irreparably damaged.
In my opinion you need to keep the dog out of the pen. It is a distraction to the horse. You can't get his complete attention if he's watching you and the dog. The times you said he was suprisingly scared, I believe was because of the dog. The first session the dog was'nt present and you had no snorting.
NO, no, no. Do not run the horse with a lead rope dragging. Very dangerous. Also, take the "Gentling Wild Horses" class from Monty Roberts. You'll do in 5 days what will take you a month, or more.
Ok before I watch this. I have question,I rescue an untouched two year old filly Saturday and same afternoon she got out of the wire fence pen, which was my fault not putting her in a more secure pen, anyway for days I worked on getting close and getting trust but then Tues she started hanging out with the other horses so now she's starting come up with them , should I continue this way and just let her get comfortable with me until I can get her in pen to work her or try and catch her asap then start ?? I think she will get comfortable eventually but I can tell she's not trusting people.shes not a mustang but is from new Mexico with several others that were neglected and underweight.
BLM.gov/adoption. Should give you all the basic info. If you would like to adopt a mustang that has been gentled, which I recommend, go to mustang heritage foundation.org and look for a TIP trainer in your area. You can also call Mustang Heritage Foundation and they will help you.
