Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I was 10 years old when my dad started to teach me how to run our combine.A couple of runs up and down the field here and there, soon built up. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was nervious as heck but thrilled at the same time. Two years later I would take over from my dad while he had his dinner. this was 40+ years ago and compared to modern machines combines were very basic back then but to me at that age, it felt like I was flying a jet plane. Onyx will treasure the memorys you guys are making.

Glad to see Dad back out and going. Shocked (sorta) me when he climbed up into the combine. Need to put Onyx in the drivers seat. Heck, he is 12, way old enough to start. He can handle it. We started at 10 and 11 around here. You screw up your first 20 acres or so but after that you got it. Take care and hope you have some decent yields.

I wanted to let you know that watching your videos (and the videos of that young guy in central Iowa) inspired me to go get my CDL so that I could haul grain for local farmers around me. I am not in a farming family and have a full-time job, but because of your videos, I wanted to be a part of the farming community, so I got my permit in May and then passed the test in early September. I am now hauling for one of those local farmers after work and it is AWESOME! Thank you for all that you do!

They day my dad let me and my sister drive during harvest / silage times it made his life 100% easier. He could get on with more important jobs, oversea the whole operation or stand in when needed. He said the 1st week was the most stressfull but luckily as it happened he wanted to widen those gateways anyway 🤣🤣🤣

Good to see your dad getting around. I’m 9 months out and learned to be cautious of mine when I saw his issues. Lucky I don’t need the other one. The thing about a prize buck like that, is by leaving him, he'll put out a lot of good genetics, and give you many good off spring to harvest. When he's really exceptional, you have to wonder if it's one of those times you don't take the shot. If you end up in the 40 bushel range with the drought you had, that would be an amazing stroke of luck, but I hope you do. My 13 year old can dial in a combine better than I can. She's going to be twice the farmer I am. She did her 1st welding the other day and took right to it.

The city folks say that tractor is to big for a kid to be driving. I say it's not big enough. Let's find a way for Onix to get a D11with a 7-foot ripper to operate. 🤷‍♀️
@mikeznel6048
@mikeznel6048 2 года назад
Dozer is waayyy different than a tractor. Best to start out on a smaller dozer and push dirt piles around. You learn to control the blade better starting out on a little one because they're tougher to master because they are more sensitive. Same with excavators. The little ones are a bit more difficult (for the inexperience) to operate than a larger one. Tractor doesn't matter what size it is because you just drive it.
@kevenhiemie

But running a ripper is a good way to get started learning.

I needed to grow up on your place; by the time I was 11, I was working my tail off driving tractors and harvesters and trucks, running heads of water in the summer, and then in my spare time, I could hunt and fish after feeding cows, motorcycles and horses miles of fence to repair, somewhere in there we squeezed school in

Have you looked into getting sealed ball bearings for the trailer hatches? Unless that's what's already in there. Might extend their lifetime a bit. Also, about the huge DEF tank. Depending on your consumption on the farm, in general it's not a very good idea to store it in those tanks unless you shuffle them around a bit to mix the AdBlue (DEF Fluid) up a little, in my experience as a service technician on virtually anything with an engine, what happens is that the DEF fluid will "separate" if left sitting in a tank over time without any movement. Which in turn screws your DEF system over, mostly dosing pumps, clogging and/or breaking injectors and sensors. Pain in the ass, and all my customers that have these problems, I usually recommend they use 10L cans instead. The price per litre or gallon is higher, but in turn you will have less issues. Saving money on repairs, parts and downtime. But like I said, it depends on consumption and whether or not you can shake it up a little every once in a while.
