I was a mechanic at an AMC dealer in the early 80s. They made some great vehicles. The only brand new vehicle I've ever purchased was a 1985 Jeep J10. Never had a problem with it, but sadly had to let it go when it was hit by a drunk driver.

Had an 86 Cherokee Four Door with Manual that never gave an issue whatsoever until around 150K miles when the clutch pedal literally fell off late at night while attending school. My best friend worked in a shop and came and got me and towed the Jeep back and gave me his car to drive. The next day he told me that he thought a connecting rod was getting ready to cut loose due to a knocking I had heard for years so I sold it to a guy (fully disclosed everything) who wasn't concerned because he was a salesman for a motor additive and planned to use the vehicle as a demo. I used the funds to buy a 89 Laredo, that car gave problems all the time even though it had a new factory block in it. Multiple trips to the dealership never resolved it and I sure missed my 86...

Hey I know this is abit late but theirs two 84's for sale on the fleabay, high mileage and high price, about 30, but the metal work is intact and one is a restored short wheel base with a golden eagle on it that says its a golden eagle tribute truck not sure what that's about but it could be a good trip down memory lane just to take a look, as I just went looking as I had never heard of that kind of jeep before and sure enough two poped up

Wow, this was my first car in 1994! Same year, options, everything! Mine had a bad headliner too. I ended up taking it down and gluing blue house foam insulation to the metal inside. My car was white with a blue vinyl roof in back like yours, and a blue interior. I bought from neighbor with paper route and grass cutting money. It had been sitting in their yard for a number of years. I spent a year working on it to make it road legal. This brings back memories! If you decide to sell this one, please let me know! I also currently own a 68 Impala similar to Ikes Biscayne, this was definitely an episode for me!

So glad you “get it” and are spreading the word. Events like the Hot Rod Power Tour are about the people and the journey, NOT the destination. Helping out fellow gearheads, ensuring you all keep trekking along, enjoying the stories behind the vehicles, and cherishing the adventure, no matter what it throws at you - THAT is what it is all about. If it was 70 degrees, no rain, cars had no hiccups or breakdowns… what a bore. What stories could you tell? What memories would you have? Can’t wait to be apart of it soon (if not 2023, definitely 2024)!

Bit of a safety tip. Never charge on the low side with only liquid (you can slowly introduce it into the system if the port is a good distance from the compressor, but it can be tricky). If you introduce to much liquid into the A/C compressor it can "slug" the compressor and cause damage. This damage can be much worse when the suction connection is actually at the compressor. liquid is not compressible. And now back to our normal content...already in progress.
@johnsnow1355
@johnsnow1355 Год назад
Charging a system full of air and moisture never works long anyways. Unless u vacuum the system to remove air and vaporize the water in the lines from the atmosphere your just wasting money.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
And don't put PAG oil into a converted R12 system. (Like he mentioned in the video) R12 to R134A conversions use Ester oil. Pag oil and mineral oil (used in R12 system) when mixed together make sludge.

You know when AMC was formed one of the companies that merged into it was Kelvinator? Kelvinator made refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. I say that to say they put the low side port on the receiver drier for a liquid fill or a vapor fill. A Liquid charge will work faster though...
@markratony7630
@markratony7630 Год назад
I am no professional but I also thought it was a little strange to introduce liquid into the system on the get go. I always heard of not doing that or you can do damage to the compressor. However it seems like maybe there was enough Freon in the system to prevent it from locking up. No matter what, he lucked out on having a working A/C while driving in that hot and humid weather.

We were an AMC family growing up, and my Dad always had one even before I was born starting with a Rambler station wagon, ending with my Mom’s 1979 AMC Station Wagon that we had in the family for 26 years. Never a better built car. They can sometimes be quirky- but parts are available. The Concord was AMC’s attempt to gain some of the mid-size cruiser status from the Grenada and the Malibu. They took the already successful Hornet, upgraded the interiors and exteriors, offered newer options, and the Concord was born. Hope you continue to enjoy.

Years ago my dad had a little used car lot and took in a Concord wagon on trade. Concords are the 2wd version of the Eagle cars. It was a nice original car in pretty decent shape, and relatively solid. The car was one of those fake woodies from the factory, but someone glued a strip of home wood paneling along the tops of the fenders by the hood. We went to remove them because it was unsightly, but low and behold the tops of fenders were rotted out all the way across both fenders, seemed to be the only rust in the whole car and it was such a odd place to rot out, so the paneling went righ back on 😂 They actually made a 4wd version of that car, they had the Eagle coupe, sedan, wagon, and a hatchback thing called the sx4

The Carter YF 2bbl used on the 258 (4.2) was notorious for flooding on hot restarts, especially if you parked on a steeper grade hill. Used to get a lot of "rescue me" calls where people would pump the gas pedal on a warm engine and flood it out, exactly as you describe here. The computer controlled feedback mixture / idle solenoid (black thing with a plunger on the right of the carb when looking from in front of the engine) liked to fail also. Pretty much bulletproof mechanically otherwise. Timing 6 deg. at 600-625 rpm (advance disconnected) if you want to tune it up. This is super clean for how old it is. With working brakes, safe tires and a cleaned fuel system I would have no problem road tripping one like that for a few hundred miles.

About your brother's pool accident, how bad was the ding in the swimming pool? I'm glad to see you feed your cameraman. When is Mook going to put up some more Nova content. Also I was glad to see you stopped videoing and took time to enjoy Power Tour.

My brothers first car was a 79 concord. I had an 80 concord. DO NOT let it overheat! The plastic valve covers will shrink and spew oil everywhere. Mine burned down from said oil leak !

My younger brother had a 4 door '81 Concord in the early 90s. It was bought from a city fleet. It had the 2.5 4 cylinder with automatic and steelies with dog dish hubcaps. Blue with blue vinyl interior. Slower than molasses but once up to speed was a great highway car. Rode super smooth.

I wish I had something to drive to power tour. This would have been the year to go. I live in the Memphis area and my wife is from Atlanta so we could have started near home and ended by visiting the in laws. That would have been a great trip. Every place I see in this video looks so familiar because it's my home.

45:04 my 1994 F-150 runs super cool too. It has a huge radiator in it from the 7.3 powersmoke. It warms up but sits at the very bottom of the normal area. the heater works great too, Its like 3 inches thick and like 4 feet wide its huge!
@GasGuzler
@GasGuzler Год назад
What motor does it have? I have a 4.9 and I might do that to mine if it’ll fit. I think the hoses are on the opposite sides though.
@mromatic17
@mromatic17 Год назад
@@GasGuzler mine is a 302 and 5 speed. Theres only 2 choices for rad’s on these for all motors and 150-350 theres a 1 inch and 3 inch thick rads. get the bigger one. its only like $80 more but mine stays on the N in normal on the gauge. Buy the bigger one i’m 90% sure it’ll fit but if it doesn’t then just go swap it out or return it!
@Dziugenonas
@Dziugenonas Год назад
The size of the radiator should not affect the engine's ability to fully reach operating temperature, provided the thermostat works as it should.
@mromatic17
@mromatic17 Год назад
@@Dziugenonas my truck runs just fine and reaches full temp it just stays really low on the gauge since I put the bigger rad in it. My heater works fine and everything too. Theres a line on the gauge that marks the begining of normal temp and it stays right at the begining of it.
@Dziugenonas
@Dziugenonas Год назад
@@mromatic17 Unless you were always slightly overheating prior to changing the radiator, I wonder why the size of the radiator would lower the temps. The thermostat still opens and closes at the same temperature.
