Coffee beans are one of the most, if not THE most heavily pesticide sprayed crops, so I drink only organic dark roast daily. A few years ago I reduced caffeine by half because it wires me but I love the taste and want two 14 oz. cups. I am not brand loyal but prefer local organic coffee. I encourage people to drink organic to reduce overall toxic burden and support small farmers.❤
Exactly…hands on my ears and almost singing. I am listening and still searching for the ultimate Swiss water process dark roast DECAF whole bean. I can’t see myself giving up coffee.
@@debraduffy7787What's the point of decaf...lots of bad chemicals in there. I limit myself to 2 black cups of coffee a day. That's it. Not giving it up.
I drink Peet's Italian Roast and am usually disappointed by other options. And agree, I think most people can report their coffee intake with a very high degree of accuracy. I once read a study done with data from the Women's Health Study II (I'm a participant) that showed that coffee drinkers don't commit suicide as often as non-coffee drinkers. That was enough for me to continue my 24 ozs daily consumption. 🥰
Wow-I'm an ELDERLY woman at 68? Go figure. I'm down to one big cup of Lavazza espresso (maybe two) a day and that's as far as I can go, osteoporosis or not.
Pls try do some resistance training exercises. It will strengthen your muscles, increase muscle mass n bone densidy. Or everyday walking at the park for at least 30 - 60minutes. ❤
I learned that you need good quality protein, plenty of calcium as part of what we eat washes away, and vitamin K... probably there are other nutrients and life style factors as well.
I did a deep dive for organic coffee beans that are tested for mold & mycotoxins, also fair traded, and high polyphenols for health. Also, the coffee had to taste full-bodied, not like hot water! Many are expensive with NO testing results available. I found what I think is the best! It’s ‘Cardiology’ coffee. Made specifically for a group of cardiologists in Scottsdale AZ because they see many heart health benefits from good quality coffee consumption. The dark roast is amazing! Delicious! They also have a medium roast. I think they have it ground already, too. It’s available on Amazon or can be ordered directly from their website. I know many pay a lot for Purity coffee. I tried it and found it had no taste, just my opinion.
I’ve been drinking half/caf for several years. Best overall decaf for me is Whole Foods 365 Buzz Free Decaf (organic and Swiss Water Process decaffeination (no chemicals)
Folgers Decaf 1 cup in the morning, and 1 cup a flavored type coffee after lunch. I can't got any further. I already switched from regular Folgers to decaf. I travel with the individual packs of Folgers decaf to make sure I have it on hand. I will just do a few more heel drops but the coffee stays. I only get into tea with honey if I have a cold which is hardly ever.
Thanks for another great video - different question - My last Dexa scan was many years ago and now am 65 - does anyone know if these tests/scans are reliable and worth the trouble - have read opposing things about it all being part of .....
Throughout my working life, I have had 3-4 8 oz cups of coffee per day. I switched to tea or Pepsi in the evenings. I did have a fracture, but even 5 years later my femoral neck is at -2.5. To my mind, my Dexa score should have been worse if caffeine was a problem.
Thanks for the post! Maybe caffine is something I need to do some experimentation with. I drink coffee occasionally, but I'm a big ice tea drinker. Tannins are said to be an astringent, so if anyone runs across information on tannins or other properties, that effect bone, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
I never thought I would give up coffee, but was told by two doctors I should remove all caffeine from my diet. I switched to chicory/mushroom coffee and after getting through the withdrawal headache, I feel so much more natural energy.
I love coffee! However, I cut back from 40gr/day to 20 when I researched it about 3 yrs ago. At that time I was dx'd with Osteoporosis (T score -3.4). I've improved my T score to -1.2 as of last Dec. I only drink organic coffee beans to avoid pesticide residues. Coffee is the most heavily pesticide laden crop in the world. I grind them by hand with a manual burr grinder just before brewing. I use a pour over with a non-bleached paper filter to reduce cafestol. I add vanilla whey protein and glycine for bone health and flavoring. My favorite beans are med-dark roasted organic beans from South America. BTW, I admit to a serious case of confirmation bias when it comes to evaluating the health benefits/risks of coffee consumption. ;)
Usually a big mug of organic dark roast, French press with a lot of half and half. Occasionally I’ll have another but later in the day and maybe 8 oz. I couldn’t stop this…
What about JUST caffeine (as in caffeine tablets) without coffee or tea? Coffee upsets my stomach (possibly due to all the crap I put in it to make it palatable) and I’m not fond of the taste of caffeinated teas. I do have osteoporosis so would love to know if I’m shooting myself in the foot taking 100-200 mg (half to a full tablet) of caffeine a day (to help wake up and focus my mind before getting out of bed in the morning). Any research available?

300mg?! That's not even a teeny--tiny cup of coffee. That doesn't sound right to me. Is this 300mg of caffeine or coffee? I drink 1 scoop of ground coffee which equals 8grams. If what I've read is correct this means I'm consuming 64mg of caffeine per day. But we don't know that because the calculations of caffeine from coffee beans is hard to measure! :)
Hi Doctor Doug. I have severe bone loss -( 4) ! and am 68. I have had fractures over 7 years in L@ and T11. I have been exercising since the first fracture in 2017. Yes the info on medication really scares me and confuses me. I am carnivore forward in diet, but my question for you is Blood type for nutrition. I believe type A should maybe not eat as much meat as say a type O blood person. How does the Blood type theory fit in with osteoporosis and in particular diet. Thanks for all your videos

I'm afraid to listen to this video! Lol, but to answer Dr Doug's opening question - I used to use medium roast Columbian or any South American ground coffee, but after learning about Mycotoxins, I switched to "Bulletproof" original roast.
I love Birds & Beans Coffee - absolutely the best tasting in my experience AND it’s certified by the Smithsonian Institution to protect 100s of rainforest bird species. It’s also organic and fair trade certified!
I don’t want to give up on my coffee in take! However, I try to get organic coffee, medium roast and some times decaf in the afternoon. Also i reduced my consumption to 2-3 cups a day.
Many sodas have caffeine, surprised they weren't mentioned. Did subjects in the studies include consumption of caffeinated soft drinks, energy drinks, even bottled waters, widely used? I drink a 16oz mug of coffee in the morning that's it, very rarely will have coffee or any caffeine at night. The best coffee I've ever had is IKEA's "PATAR" coffee, expensive and a bit hard to find except in their stores (over an hour away from my area). I would spend the money if it were local. My usual coffee is Folgers "Black Silk". 7-11 ground coffe not too bad either and affordable. Some stores sell bags of their ground coffee.

Not a brand snob really. It’s more flavor. Love hazelnut….Seattles Best is quite tasty. Happy to know I can relax and enjoy it rather than feeling like my bones are being gnawed away with each sip.

I love coffee, too! My favorite is Organic Ruta Maya coffee, a blend of 2/3 decaf and 2/3 caf. I like this coffee because it is delicious and it’s organic!

I drink one cup in the morning. I make it with Organic Ethiopian coffee. If I need a "pick-me-up" in the afternoon, I drink one cup of organic green tea, but this is not daily.
Very true. I experienced morning legs cramps every single day for almost a year without knowing what the heck happened with my old body. I am 71, very active athletic woman with no health issues. I blamed on my aging. It's very annoying that I had to jump off my bed every early morning to stop my leg cramps while still in the sleeping stage. Then i doubted my caffeine consumption that i normally had at least 6 to 7 cups daily, hot and cold, matcha tea and coffee (i used decaf coffee to prevent sleep loss). I use only organic products and bought the best brands possible on the market. Organic Domatcha ceremonial grade and Mount Hagen organic decaf instant coffee as they are co2 processing. First I stopped matcha and used only decaf coffee. The morning cramps still happened. I stopped both, matcha and coffee altogether. Only after one day, no cramps in the morning. I feel amazing although a bit lazy and low energy as the result of withdrawal effects. After a week with no cramps i took 2 glasses of ice decaf coffee yesterday. Woke up with legs cramps again!!!! But i still took a hot matcha cup this morning, i guess i crave for it. They are really addictive, specially after 20+ years daily habit. It was ok until last year to experience cramping and twitching legs muscles. Will see how it feels tomorrow morning when i wake up after a cup of matcha this morning. I also wanted to make a remark, decaf coffee still interrupt your sleep. It still has a little amount of caffeine that affects older people.

Case Study Coffee Roasters in Portland OR, they source their coffee beans from Central America and Africa, freshly roast once a week, they have 5 coffee shops and cater special occasions, they have been catering Nike general world meeting in Oregon for years, they cater Intel and many weddings and such. Look at their web side and put in an order, they mail out freshly roasted beans once a week.
the study 300 mg caffeine is “a lot of coffee”..-(at 80-100 mg caffeine in 8 oz)..3 cups? And, seriously, what coffee mug actually holds JUST 8 oz?? I’m sure people get much more than they think!😬 I started 3 years ago mixing same coffee-1 lbs decaf with1lb regular-this has helped me cut my caffeine in the 2-3 cups I get a day. After AM, I’m a decaf green tea drinker… no caffeine past noon. My sleep has become so important. And I’m up at 5am to walk. Thanks for this video… I guess it is/ isn’t harmful 🤷♀️ As with most addictive things, less really is more!
Favorite coffee? Not any particular brand, but definitely whole bean! I am very leery of pre-ground coffee and what fillers there might be. Also - prefer organic, well, just cuz. .... And thanks!!! I love my morning coffee routine!
My husband and I are unapologetic "coffee snobs," lol! We get organic, fair-trade, shade grown, medium roast Mexican beans from a local company. That stuff makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had!
I am drinking Bulletproof medium roast coffee now. I can’t believe how milder it is compared to the Don Francisco coffee I had been drinking. I usually drink one to two cups before noon. I think I’m alright with that (so far).
Seattle's Best Organic Coffee, using a non bleached filter, pour over method, two cups in the morning and not at the same time as calcium. I do have organic kombucha at lunch for gut health. Recently had a DEXA and for the first time the technician asked a series of 20 questions which included: "how much coffee do you drink?" I asked if they were comparing the information with others and DEXA results for a study and she said no. Currently, trying to do 1/2 decaf. with 1/2 caffeine. Concerned about loosing the benefits of caffeine such as cognitive function as I get older.
I drink one latte per day that I make at home. My partner roasts his own beans. My lattes are 30 grams of coffee with 1/2 cup of steamed whole milk...not giving it up!
I only drink Bulletproof coffee brand because it is tested for toxins. I’m highly sensitive to mycotoxins from mold and here in the US coffee is not routinely tested for mold toxins. We switched to another brand that was a gift and I had horrible trigeminal neuralgia at the temple for about a month before I realized what was going on. When I switched back to Bulletproof brand my symptoms slowly went away.

I avoid coffee like the plague. I once had several cups of tea at a ski event and skied up the same steep hill three times. My wife says I was wired. So I occasionally have a cup of tea and a little chocolate. But I ignore the alcohol warning on bone loss, as I won't give up my one to two glasses of wine per day. We all have our preferences/biases.
I buy my coffee by the 10lb bag from the Green Coffee Co. here in Canada which lasts me well over a year. I buy organic green beans, roast my own and hand grind. It's fantastic and can't imagine going without. I add powdered bone broth to my first brew of the day which ups my protein and collagen intake a bit.
calcium depletes calcium from bones it is in most things we eat and drink im low calcium have zero bone loss for now had stoped tea and coffee for a few years have weak tea now remember exercise is important kale is high calcium same as spinach funny there is little on the internet about depletion of calcium from bones. PTH is what Regulates Vitamin D and Calcium intake
I tend to drink decaf most of the time when at home. If I go out, I seldom get decaf because it tastes awful at most restaurants. There are a couple of exceptions here in Milwaukee where I live. Typically, these serve coffees I also make at home, which are locally roasted. My preferences are decafs from Collectivo, Valentine and Stone Creek Coffee. There are a few other roasters in Milwaukee but I haven’t tried them. Usually, I get beans and grind them myself before making a pot. I also have a Keurig for making single cups if I won’t be around to drink more than 1 cup. For K-cups I use several brands , mostly purchased online because finding a strong, dark roast decaf in the local supermarket is practically impossible. Basically, I drink coffee for the flavor, not the caffeine. I get that in energy drinks (sugar free of course) so I don’t need it in my coffee.
Thanks for this video. Coffee comforts me but worried it was impacting my bone density. I drink organic, single origin, Guatemala coffe from Natural Grocers.
I live in the UK and drink Kenco Rich instant coffee. I tend to alternate it with Darjeeling tea. I drink both black, no milk. A little sugar (demerara) in the coffee.
What about caffeine in energy drinks? or directly in pills? Those won't typically have the other compounds present in tea or coffee. I carry caffeine tablets as part of my first aid kit for hiking, along with calcium and electrolytes (and ibuprofen, and bismuth subsalicylate, and and and...).

I drink organic cold brew concentrate which means you soak the grounds for 12 hours and run it through a thick filter which makes a concentrate kept in the fridge and add hot water to it as needed. Supposed to help reduce acidity. Same amount of caffeine and tastes delicious.
