Fantastic as always, Mr. Galison. I've been a fan of yours since the Overjoyed album. You, Toots, Stevie and Tommy Morgan have been my strongest influences and inspirations in my chromatic playing for decades now. I sang and played guitar for many, many years with the late great Andy Williams, and often played the harmonica solo in Moon River with my ol' Suzuki Leghorn harp. I've been a Suzuki fan for a long time... I think I need me one o' these Sirius 56C thingies. Sounds just beautiful.
AMAZING !!!! Now I've just started with your "Midnight Sun". Unfortunately, you makes me have a longer way to go. But I really enjoy and love your playing. Thank you for sharing. When I finished watching your video, I just naturally clapped my hands by myself in my room.
There is William and everything else. Nobody can do fraising with such rhythmic confidence and sentimentality on the same level like this virtuoso. I have all William's recordings and never get enough. It gives me inspiration to start a day and fall asleep happy. Please continue brewing this magic.
Updating my previous comment from a few months ago... well, I now own the cross-tuned model of this harmonica and I absolutely love it. I wish they'd made/I'd had this one decades ago, and all through my years playing and singing with Andy Williams. It's one of the best sounding harps I've ever heard, let alone played. Nuanced, warm toned, airtight, just beautiful. A bossa nova/Brasilian player's dream too, so dynamic and expressive. At the price, it has to be one of the greatest values in chro harps going. I love this tune and your playing here, by the way; you're just one of the true greats of the instrument.
It is my pleasure to give those words :) I really admire and enjoy your Overjoyed album especially, from the title track to Julia to No More Blues/Chega De Saudade... it was a very influential album in my younger days (I had it on vinyl and then CD), and will forever be a favorite. Thanks for the fantastic playing, sir.
Great playing, Will. Really enjoy it. Just getting into the chromatic. I was gifted a Hohner Chromonica 64. While soaking up info, been hearing great things about the Suzuki harmonicas though. Great tone. Thanks again, Will.
Harmonica Paganini composed this little anthem of simple joy of life. Every time I listen to it it's a sunny spring day.. everything is blooming even when my windshield wipers are struggling with rain or snow..
Hi Will, You are one of the world's great Harmonica Players that braught me to buy me two SIRIUS S-64 C . Starting from the first weeks in Summer 2020 I felt very very happy with them ! So I just want to say truly BIG THANKS !!! for Your Inspiration, and I really love Your Songs and style in playing the Harmonica! Stay healthy and happy ! Kind regards from Hamburg, Clemens
I'm an amateur enthusiast player of diatonics, teetering on my first chromatic, having been attracted by their distinct jazz-like sounds. Your playing has certainly furthered my interest - wonderfully lyrical. Thanks for your explanation of the cross-tune thing; I was not aware of this. I had my eye on the Suzuki Chromatix, but the Sirius does seem to have a bit more depth to it. Decisions, decisions!
Thank you Edward. The Chromatix has slightly thinner reedplates. On one hand, the sound is a little less strong, but the notes are a bit easier to play and bend. My friend Randy Weinstein makes good use of the Chromatix. I say get both!! ;)
Great stuff Will! I remember you mentioning the 56c at NAMM, it's great to see and hear you on it. I'm gonna have to learn the head on that tune, really nice!
Thank you and I wish you much success in your studies. Two suggestions: 1) The iRealPro app is amazing for learning songs 2) make practicing as fun as possible! 3) Contact me if you have any questions!
Great lines, executed with feel and swing, really nice, sweet but with an edge that just brings it up higher. Your phrases flow in the service of your melodic ideas, so musical and just good.
Me too. Your playing on I'm Not The Same...is my favorite part. I really light up when you play your solo. Could you please make a video of you playing along with that tune?
Thank you Leandro. I can send you a backing track, but not the one in the video, as it is part of an album that I have not yet released. Do you have the app iRealpro? Can you give me an email address?
Will !!!! I have always loved your playing and I am sure that you will sound great on whatever horn you play. Hats off to Suzuki for continuing to make superb instruments. I have a Suzuki G-48 Gregoire Maret (i think it was for-runner to the Sirius series) and its a great harp. Too bad Suzuki isn't making spare reeds easily available as I blew out a reed and haven't had any luck finding a source for single reeds. I blow hard on my harps and do my own repair, so I hope Suzuki soon makes spare reeds available. I even bought the Suzuki HRT-10 Harmonica Repair kit (demo-ed by Brendan Powers repairing a chromatic Sirius), in anticipation of having to maintain my Suzuki G-48, only to find out that spare reeds were not available. Hope that changes soon. MAybe a word to Suzuki from a world class player? Meanwhile my Suzuki G-48 is sitting on a shelf waiting for a reed source to manifest, and I'm back to the hohner CX-12 :). Thanks for the soulful, beautiful playing Will!
Thanks Marty. I will definitely talk to Suzuki about this, Meanwhile, you can call their US HQ in LA. perhaps they can help you. 1-619-258-1896 Tell Darren I sent you! Maybe Gary can help you. I blow hard too, and have blown a couple of reeds out, but I find that the Suzuki reeds last MUCH longer than the Hohners.
Fantastic Will. I can see that you are immersed totally. The only way to be. I will defo get me a Sirius. I find the Suzuki range significantly more air tight than Hohners. Thanks. Wish I could jazz like that. Pete
The Brazilian guitar style supports your incredible playing so well, just as it did Toots on that series of recordings. (I was on that crazy hall with you and Spike and company many years ago.)
That was Excellent. Will has a great play-along book with CD. Hal Leonard Harmonica Jazz Standards volume 14. Will in my opinion is one of the greatest. Check out his CD's on Itunes
Great sound. You have a new fan. Your right, ever where you look there is a guitar player. That's why I started playing harmonica. What key is the song your playing?
parabens, william. what is not to love about your playing? i play chromatic also and have found that the chromatic harp is MADE for bossa. i cannot ever hear enough bossa nova. MAIS, favor !!!
+William Bynum Hey man, I have NEVER checked my RU-vid mailbox before, so SORRY for the late response! Suzuki USA us at 858 566 9710 Good people. They;ll set you up with a new slide!
I'm afraid the track has been sitting "on the shelf" for many years. I will try to to put it out with other tunes from that session over the next year Thanks for your encouragement!
Hi, Will!!! IAM trying to buy this instrument... Can you tell me where you can buy it (website) etc and the exact name , model number, etc etc , please. Don't want to buy the wrong thing!!!!
Hi, Mikorara! This is the model: Suzuki Sirius 56-Hole Chromatic Harmonica Cross Alignment in key of "C". Where do you live??? I will try to find a place near you to buy one. :)
Hey Mikorara, Sorry for the delay. Not many shops I the USA sell this harp. The price on Amazon is reasonable. I would say that they are very consistent, so its not necessary (or possible) to try one out at a store anyway. Of course if it is is defective you can always return. www.amazon.com/Suzuki-56-Hole-Chromatic-Harmonica-Alignment/dp/B00JQ893GY
