In this segment of On Location, Coyote and the crew learn all about Nematodes!
While visiting Dr. Patricia Stock’s lab at the University of Arizona the crew was able to witness how these small parasitic worms could become an environmentally safe alternative to pesticides in the future, making agriculture less dependent on chemicals to protect our vital food resources. Yay!
In addition to learning about parasites they also had to pass a laboratory “rite of passage” by eating an odd but sustainable food product…the wax worms used in the research! These worms are consumed by many people around the world and are indeed parasites themselves as they rely on bee colonies to grow and sustain their larva.
Will Coyote be able to stomach this bizarre eating challenge? and…will he actually get worms from doing it?
